- Losi has dropped another addition to the Rey lineup!!
We're going to go through it and discuss some of the differences between the Baja, Hammer , and Rock ( Discontinued)
We're also going to do a little comparison to the Traxxas UDR
Is this more of a UDR nemesis than people think?
We love it, good conversation and way to get creative and use the exploded view for more info/data
Thanks. We appreciate the feedback👍
@@mmfmakemyfun no worries, in regards to "scale/size" the industry is pretty mixed up since over the years we have used platforms to create different class of vehicles. One of the most easy to understand visuals is the current 1/10th Drag Cars... they are really more 1/8,1/7 in size when compared to a real drag car but since they are based on 1/10th Short course truck they got labeled as 1/10th. These days when we mention a scale, its really only to determine the power system size. Moving forward we are considering marketing the wheel base more than the scale... thoughts?
@@LosiRacing I think wheelbase would get you closer to accurate scale but I think it would take a while to educate the masses. As far as scale being more as a guide for power system wouldn’t the Hammer have benefited more from a 4S or better power plant like you find in 1/8 race buggies? Just a thought since I haven’t gotten my hands on one of these to judge the system it’s supplied with. In the years I’ve been in this hobby scale has sure been all over the map lol. I’d say the closest are crawlers and drifters but any of the fast stuff has always been more function over scale which I’m actually ok with. In the end I just want it to be fun to run.
Seems like it would play well with my UDR, kinda hope the release a super hammer ray. Fingers crossed the aftermarket will take this truck and run
I can say iv had mine for a while and those front pins do pop out but you can put them back in and its fine. These things have there issues but they are pretty tough. The issues can be fixed pretty easy with just ear plugs in the center and rear diff then some correction of the tie rod geometry with a couple washers. Vitavon really makes these trucks how they should be out of the box but they are still awesome.
So is so much potential for aftermarket parts for this RC. Can’t wait! BUT this will be the one one I’ll buy considering this RC is just a swapping out of platforms to make one.
Amazing video and really liked the break down. I have a Mojave currently and race with a bunch of guys with UDRs. I’ve considered getting this and making it a 6s build.. it would take some work but do those metal drive drive train parts from the Baja Rey work on the hammer Rey? The plastic just won’t hold up I believe. I also am thinking hex extensions to get a little more width to the truck. Thoughts??
I am on the bridge of gettinf the hammer rey.. looking for width extensions rhat would fit but cant find any at the moment.. fingers crossed a brand will make some.. all it really needa tbh.. more width. I have looked at the parts & the diffs are all new on this.. it can take 4s 120c burst packs happilly..
More width tho 🙏
Gooche my group only runs 6s on our track. They make 12mm to 17 with a +5 but would be nice to get a 10mm
I can tell you the plastic shafts hold up a LOT better than you would think they would. Ive got 2 Super Rock Reys and they also have plastic axles with the metal universals, only broke one axle and i run it strickly on 8s.
Now lets see aftermarket parts interchange between the Baja Rey, Rock Rey, and this new Hammer Rey!!!
This is the exact comparison I'm looking for! I have a Rock Rey and the back end kicks a lot when you hit a bump. I think with more weight in the back on the Hammer Rey may actually help it being more planted in such situations. However the Hammer Rey has longer and narrower chassis, which is probably going to traction roll more.
based off the videos I've seen it still bounces after hitting a jump or bump, I've seen one it bounced all the way into a front flip! Mods to fix this is still needed.
Put thicker shock oil in the rear shocks. Will help a lot with the donkey kick.
U can open the "fuel cell" to put weights in it thats what i did and its like perfectly balanced no bounce when it has hard landings it helps alot on take off and helps abit with rolling but drive it the way u would a real vehicle and u wont roll as much let off the throttle going into corners and "Hammer" down on exit see what i did there
I'm a big Losi fan, I raced mainly Losi hardcore from 2000 - 2004 that said this has got to be one of my least favorite. Imo it needs to be wider which would make it way more stable.
Hey really enjoyed this 👍, subscribing!
Glad you like it. Thank You!
When you said they are including the lights on the rear did you mean you it comes with the truck or you can get it separately?? Thanks in advanced! :)
At the time of release they were included. I’m not sure about now but they do have very detailed information on Horizons website

@@mmfmakemyfun was it in the box or on the truck when you received it??
@@kirinparrott3294 I honestly don’t remember. The release was over a year ago and we don’t have it anymore.
Hammer ray needs to hold slides, I like improved steering, baja lacked steering. Plus improved rear axil/bigger bearings.
I really wish it xoukd hold slides like
baja ray. Wonder if I change rear suspension for shorter rear end if it gives the power slide action I'm missing. Or I could invest in alluminum chassie thars shorter swap out better improved steering and have desired truck.
Please sombody make vid of hammer ray holding slides
Good breakdown!
Thank you. I wish I had them all to do a real comparison but tight now a can’t afford them all lol
The sway bar is fake?
Laaaame
Its also banned from my local u4 racing because it is way bigger than 1/10th scale.
Just went on sale one year later 299 free shipping at horizon hobbies just ordered it.
….Casey Currie not Chris! 🤪
Just going to buy baja ray and buy newer improved hammer ray rear axil
I look at the same front suspension. N i ser the baja rey n rock rey put it together to made this "NEW" hammer rey just a little wider and long chassis. slightly bigger tires different cage n body a different but same rear suspension only because of the rear sway bar and some modifications to install the second pair of shock absorbers. and a 130a esc to use 3s lipo? People from the RC hobby world would have liked it in 6s because of the size it is. or it looks like a 1/7 scale. I would have opted for at least a 4s esc. Personally, I didn't like it. but well there are many people who will say that I am retarded or will hate me. It's just one opinion in a billion. 🤷🏽
I think many people would agree with you. I’ve seen many reviews where they comment that it rips. Just looking at the specs I think the Baja would still go faster and handle better.
This truck weighs 10lbs baja & rock weigh 7lbs.. it can take 4s happily with the new front & rear diff & bigger bearings.. only complaint i have.. it is too narrow.. more width would of killed the trophy game
It's a replica so is the udr and the others on your thumb nail,.... sledge and others like it ziro realism to it , ther just flatbed sky trucks
👎lot of speculation here
How so?
I got a hammer rey a week ago and was shocked at the size
They seem huge compared to the baja lol
