Randy, it is actually a factory authorized/approved convertible conversion produced for 1984 and 1985 in answer to the Buick Riviera Convertible that joined the lineup in 1983. The Eldorado Convertible was only offered in the Biarritz trim line and it had the 4100 HT engine with the typical GM front wheel drive Hydramatic utilized by the Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera. The Biarritz Convertible saw production of under 4,000 units in each of its two model years according to the figures that I have seen. It is remarkably quiet with the top up for a convertible given its top with headliner, and even after nearly 40 years on the road, my 1984 Biarritz Convertible with 89,000 miles has very few rattles (I am the second owner having owned it since 1992). You are correct that the front sheet metal shouldn't be terribly difficult to source, but you may have to look a bit more closely to locate the Biarritz bright trim as there were fewer Biarritz models produced. Many owners find that dark blue with the white leather and top to be the most desirable color combination for the car. My 1984 Biarritz Convertible is the same color combination as that 1985, and had to have its original HT4100 replaced at 49,000 miles due to a manufacturing defect in the crankshaft -- you might want to check the CarFax on the Biarritz in question and see what its history has been. I think that it would make for some great content!!

The Caddy used to say Biarritz on the back, a package on the Eldorado. I think that convertible may have been done by a custom coachwork shop. I think the Sparkomatic is a CD changer. That was a brand of cheap car stereos sold at places like KMart in the 80s and 90s.

DEFINITELY get this car!! You can’t go wrong with it in the condition it’s in and the low mileage. Biarritz is pronounced exactly as it’s spelled. Just sound it out. That’s the top of the line model for the Eldorado and Seville. The engine is the HT4100 that everyone loves to hate, but actually is a great engine in the RWD configuration. It’s not a race car and was never meant to be. The low end knock started with the FWD 1985 DeVille/Fleetwood models. The factory had a warranty repair for it by putting in tighter clearance main bearings, but sadly, they discontinued them long ago, so you would be looking at a total rebuild, or some custom work to tighten up the #1 main bearing. This problem rarely exists with the 4.5, which debuted in 1988 (I’ve owned both a 1987 FWD Fleetwood and my current one is a 1988 FWD Cadillac Sedan DeVille. The 4.5 ran from 1988 to 1990, and was then replaced with the 4.9 in 1991. They are basically the same engine with improvements along the way. Randy, you MUST buy this Eldorado!! I would if I had the money!! ❤️❤️❤️

That Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz would be worth some serious money repaired. They average $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 depending on the mileage. That's a beautiful car. 👍 Parts would run you about $600.00 with the fillers being the most expensive parts.

I like that Cadillac, I am thinking only 43,000 miles because the interior shows little wear and it still runs with a 4100 , that is about as far as they go, at the dealer I worked at we called the HT4100, the hand tight 4100, bolts would loosen in a few hundred miles

It wasn’t just 1984 and 1985. The ASC and Hess & Eisenhardt Eldorado convertibles were available when this body came out in 1979. 1984 and 1985 are the most abundant production years of this body Eldorado, period, and also the most plentiful years for the convertibles, sold as new directly through the Cadillac dealer. All gas Eldorados were 4100 powered from 1982-1985, except for maybe a very rare 1982 that has the Buick 4.1L V6 in it.

  • @invicta6110

My grandmother had a 1981 blue/blue Eldorado Biarritz just like that one, it had the blue vinyl top instead of the convertible. I believe it had the 4100, which happened to catch fire while we were on a camping trip once. Also had a CV joint go out during another road trip. The thing was only about 7-8 years old at the time! I was looking at getting one a decade or two ago, they were dirt cheap. Rarely see them now and if you do find one, they're usually clapped out. For an 80's car, it has really nice lines.

That Eldorado isn't as cheap to fix as you might think. The filler panels are hard to find and replacements are VERY expensive and hard to install coz they are not manufactured by the original companies I had an 84 with the HT4100 engine and it ran like a top for over 109.,000 miles until a drunk driver hit me from behind and totaled it..

The management at the auction facility should provide security with a metal detector upon departure of the lot. This type of proactive stance would deter any would-be thieves from coming in and taking the keys. Just a suggestion.

These cars were sent after delivery to the dealers were automatically sent to one factory for the conversion were already picked for the changes before leaving the factory, the VIN has already been changed to reflect the conversion.. Coach Works did the conversion., Biarritz is the model. YES, get it please..

Hi Randy, I have an 04 CLK 500 Cabriolet (silver) and that whining sound is normal. Not power steering etc. My valve covers are leaky too, not a big deal. I just have to get around to it. Fixing that top can be ridiculously expensive, mine broke years back and it was $5k to fix at the dealer. Better hope it isn't broken. Fast little cars and rare with AMG package. I've only seen a few.

It's a beautiful car and rare as a convertible. Im not sure if it's collectible as most 80s Cadillacs outside of the Allante are. The real negative is the 4100 engine. They were not known for their reliability and terribly underpowered. It could benefit from an engine swap if you get it.

Hi Randy. I remember that it was easy to lock yourself out of a car in the old days. A driver would leave the key in the car, get out, push the door lock button down, and close the door. Many drivers, like me, would take the second key and attach it to the bottom of the car. You could buy a small, magnetized metal box with a sliding top and place it under the vehicle. I had to use my 'emergency' key a few times. Who knows? Maybe that key fob was hidden by the owner. Come out, come out, wherever you are.

This is a Eldorado Biaretz Package. you;ll need an engine as the Hook & Tow 4100. These were bad engines and made from 1982-1985 and the Buick Rivera had a convertible from 82-85. I would say 45,000 miles are actual because The Cadillac Hook & Tow 4.1L 4100 V-8 did not last 50k miles before a head gasket/bolt job needed. The best part is that most people cover ted these into the Oldsmobile 5.0L 307CID. I have seen one at a car show with a Buick 231 3800 Supercharged Series III 305hp and 320 ft of torque. He said its fun to drive with the Buick 3800 Supercharged Conversion, He spiced hid up to 450 hp and a beefed up HT65HD 4 speed automatic out of a 2002-2005 Buick Park Avenue Ultra or Lucerne had these Supercharged. We converted a lot of these from the Hook & Tow 4100 to an Oldsmobile 307 CID or a Oldsmobile 350 gas in the around 200. we would use the Buick 231 CID 3800 Series II Supercharged engine swap was easy. Swap a 3800 Series Supercharged series II III and you can get these 3800 with some mods to 400-550 hp easily.

That is the most influential beautiful car ever ! The reason why Cadillac made the Alante ! If you don't bye that and make it perfect you will never drive a convertible and feel the same ! For all your saying you love 80-90s cars that I know you love ! THAT IS THE PINACLE AMERICAN CONVERTIBLE OF ALL TIME ! I can honestly say as a 63 year old in the automotive field all my life ! I would like to see you buy the Cadillac; I would be interested in seeing the repaired car.

G'evening Randy 🤠 . In the 80's & early 90's Sparkamatic made car audio, CB Radio and other assorted Automotive gadgets mostly sold through Checker Shucks Kragen Auto Parts before O'Reilly bought them out and Kmart. I still have dads " Tuned up" cb radio & sparkamatic 3' whip antenna and it works great 😋

I'd like you to look at that red Focus next to the Charger, they're awesome! They are super reliable, I had a high mileage one that I bought for 600 bucks and sold for 600 bucks and never broke down on me either

Decoding the VIN on that blue Cadillac it says it has a 4.1L V-Shaped engine in it.
