  • I remember when this drink first became popular. It was back in the late 80's early 90's and everyone, I mean everyone drank Cosmopolitans. This cocktail is still quite popular today thanks to the hit show Sex and the City. I wouldn't mind sipping on a Cosmo hanging out with those lovely ladies, ya wouldn't mind that at all!

    Hey Bruce can you do that Gin variation with the cointreau lemon Juice and (as another video idea) your home made raspberry syrup? That variation just...makes my mouth water as I like Gin.

      +Captain Zeke My mouth was watering too when I was doing my research. I think I will make that variation for the show a little later. My next syrup will be a rhubarb one seeing as it's in season now. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching 😁

    Dude wtf.. I don't never listen to anybody talk about the history of drinks as I just want to learn recipes for my skillset, how tf did I not notice I was listening to this man like he was telling me my future, this must be what pro level bartenders are made of, pure charisma, I need those qualities when I bartend just chill, free, and whatever all that sauce was he had

    I had a Elderly neighbor who made these, she was a hot number in her day so even though she was in her 80s she looked like about 60ish and made the best Cosmopolitans, she didn't measure , she poured and they were delish , had one in a bar in her memory at a bar restaurant and it was not as good as hers

  • @rimmersbryggeri
    @rimmersbryggeri 4 роки тому +1

    Bruce it would taste even better if you used a vodka that tasted good. ;) I don't mean to troll but absolut is a marketing exercise rather than a good vodka.

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  4 роки тому

      Vodkas are subjective, but one thing they should have is a clean nose with no strong odour and pleasant heat on the palate. Your cocktail is only as good as the worst ingredient used. Cheers!

    • @rimmersbryggeri
      @rimmersbryggeri 4 роки тому

      @@BarTalkCocktails Yeah. To me the test is wether it's drinkable straight. I'm swedish so i grew up with the notion that absolut is best but I found it justleaves the taste of a bad hangover in the mouth. I find the Finnish and russian ones have a much purer taste, I have even tasted great ones made in peoples garages in the north of sweden but found that absolut is more a success in marketing than in taste.

    Could you just use a bit of lemon juice if you don’t have citron

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  3 роки тому

      You certainly could add lemon juice to your Cosmo. It's a good sub and will mix well with the lime juice. Citron vodka is only necessary if you follow Cheryl Cook's original recipe. I've made many Cosmopolitans without citron vodka and they taste great. Cheers!

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  5 років тому +3

      This is how I make them at the bar, without all the banter of course. It takes about 20 seconds to make a Cosmo. So, there's no fear of over dilution by adding the ice first. Cheers!

  • @mponsot

    Screw the cosmo, tell us more about that precursor gin based cocktail with the homemade raspberry syrup!

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  3 роки тому +1

      There's a recipe for a Cosmopolitan Daisy which appears in Pioneers of Mixing at Elite Bars 1903-1933. It uses gin, Cointreau, lemon juice, and raspberry syrup. Whether this drink is the source of the modern-day Cosmo is unknown, but it appears the Cosmopolitan Daisy might be a riff on a Brandy Daisy from the 19th century. Take out the Cointreau, swap the lemon for lime along with some raspberry syrup and essentially you've got a twist on a classic gimlet. A Raspberry Gimlet has a bright tart note and is a delicious summertime cocktail. Another forerunner might be a Clover Club from the late 1800s. It adds egg white for a smooth silky finish. Cheers, Matthew.
