"And I swear I found the key to the Universe in the engine of an old parked car". First time I heard it, I was blown away. It spoke to me in a way nothing else ever did.
He was supposed to play at my HS auditorium and I had tickets, in 1972-1973 and they cancelled the show, ticket sales were weak....I was pissed but I saw the E streeters at the Tower theater outside Philly in 74 and 75 and then the Spectrum in 1976....those early shows were so good and by 76, he was a full blown phenomenon
God Almighty. The talent he had at 22 years old. You see him in his high school yearbook just five years before and you'd think, eh nothing special. Goes to show you never can tell (thank you Chuck Berry).
Bruce is my biggest inspiration. He really made nothin into somethin, and these early performances of him just trying to get himself heard, well I really like em. Long Live SPRINGSTEEN
This is probably one of the most important videos of Springsteen on the internet .. I'm so glad this was captured for us to celebrate! And thanks to John Hammond of Columbia records for the showcase at the Gaslight!
In my opinion, the greatest artist ever. For sure biased seeing that I'm from NJ, but still hard to argue against. Humble beginnings, like in this video... just a man and his guitar. First two albums were piece's of lyrical art and showcased his vivid poetry. Broke it big with Born to Run, a literal masterpiece of music. It may be impossible to make a perfect album but that's as close as it gets. Hard to skip over darkness... great follow up album. Not a replica of Born to Run and amazing in its own right. So much reflection in Nebraska, back to his old roots. Finally got the recognition he deserved with Born in the USA, maybe not with his original crowd, but recognition at least. To me, The Rising finishes the arc perfectly. Back with the boys and making great music again. Who else has so much talent and has made such an impact on rock and roll for such a long time? The Boss.
Well, I stood stone-like at midnight Suspended in my masquerade And I combed my hair, it looked just right And commanded the night brigade I was open to pain and crossed by the rain And I walked on a crooked crutch I strolled all alone through a fallout zone And came out with my soul untouched I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd When they said, "Sit down," I stood up Ooh, ooh, growin' up Well, the flag of piracy flew from my mast My sails were set wing to wing I had a jukebox graduate for first mate She couldn't sail but she sure could sing I pushed B-52 and bombed them with the blues With my gear set stubborn on standing I broke all the rules, strafed my old high school And never once gave thought to landing I hid in the clouded warmth of the crowd But when they said, "Come down," I threw up Ooh, ooh, growin' up I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere And you know it's really hard to hold your breath Swear, I lost everything I'd ever loved or feared Was the cosmic kid in full costume dress But my feet, they finally took root in the earth Though I got me a nice little place in the stars And I swear I found the key to the universe In the engine of an old parked car Whoa, I hid in the mother breast of the crowd But when they said, "Pull down," I pulled up Ooh, ooh, growin' up Ooh, ooh, growin' up Oh, my, ooh, growin' up

Just stumbled on this today, 8/17/2022. This is my favorite Bruce Song. It is a national treasure! He was inspired by some force. It is self-evident.
So great to see a genius in his early days
Stone Cold Genius
Long life Springsteen!❤
"I had a juke box graduate for first mate, she couldn't sail but she sure could sing...."...gives me chills some 50 yrs later.
I vividly remember those days.... I knew I was witnessing greatness!
CONGRATULATIONS! 🌟BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Never stop growin! ❤
Thank you John Hammond!! We are forever indebted to you! 💘

As good as Dylan musically and lyrically and infinitely more generous of spirit and sharing his passion
The REAL BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN... just wooooooooooow!
Pure magic!!!!
This is still my favourite song of him.
Beautiful....love the passion...its just ooozes out of him...
Well, I stood stone-like at midnight
Suspended in my masquerade
And I combed my hair, it looked just right
And commanded the night brigade
I was open to pain and crossed by the rain
And I walked on a crooked crutch
I strolled all alone through a fallout zone
And came out with my soul untouched
I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd
When they said, "Sit down," I stood up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
Well, the flag of piracy flew from my mast
My sails were set wing to wing
I had a jukebox graduate for first mate
She couldn't sail but she sure could sing
I pushed B-52 and bombed them with the blues
With my gear set stubborn on standing
I broke all the rules, strafed my old high school
And never once gave thought to landing
I hid in the clouded warmth of the crowd
But when they said, "Come down," I threw up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
I took month-long vacations in the stratosphere
And you know it's really hard to hold your breath
Swear, I lost everything I'd ever loved or feared
Was the cosmic kid in full costume dress
But my feet, they finally took root in the earth
Though I got me a nice little place in the stars
And I swear I found the key to the universe
In the engine of an old parked car
Whoa, I hid in the mother breast of the crowd
But when they said, "Pull down," I pulled up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
Ooh, ooh, growin' up
Oh, my, ooh, growin' up
what a treasure!
Thanks Mark.

Ooooo ooooo groooooowin uuuup🎶💗
Wow!
Dude's got potential...
This isn't bad. Did anything ever become of this kid?
He is probably parking cars for a living right now... lol
He's fronting a covers band on a cruise ship line. Hey, it's a living.
@@56bigmike - And driving a used car.
He was in a BonJovi tribute band for a while.
Ya, he’s still playing really boring, crappy music.
Thanks for the input Encino Man.
This video is from Maxs Kansas Cty not the Gaslight
BOM BOSS
A BEIRA DO FIM É A MORTE
If Dylan had a younger brother....
Does this WHOLE concert exist on video?> please POST ! This is AMAZING!!
Looks a lot later than 1972
Seems like he's got a chance I wonder where he was born
I don’t think this is Bruce in 1972. This is later in his life.
Is this the gaslight club in nyc that closed in 71’
Wow AI is really good
I’d pay him $5!!!
Before Bruce became Bruce and increasingly,
tragically, lost the thread…
I wonder was he influenced by loudon wainwright "school days" song. they have a similar theme and sound. this song is way better tho
Awesome!
