I bought this laptop, but I've had a TERRIBLE experience. Whenever the GPU is used even slightly, the laptop turns off. I even contacted the "CEO office" and was assured the issue would be addressed. However, after the repair, it came back with the same motherboard and the exact same issue. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this company. I can't believe they could fail this badly. This has been a huge letdown, and I feel completely let down by ASUS.
I like the G14 because i can get 32 GB of RAM while the G16 is another $700 to 800 (SHESH) for a configure with 32 GB of RAM also. Bigger screen don't matter too much because I do work with a monitor. Now, Yes if that's the case I could have got a desktop but I do want a computer that I can bring around easily and have battery power.
Do both laptops offer the same performance, it's safe to assume that the larger laptop will offer more wattage to the gpu as well as provide better cooling which highly affects performance.

the 16" screen sized laptops are not that big these days, they evolved a lot.. I think the real deal breaker is the ram size specially that it is not upgradable.
How do these compare to m1 pro? I heard M chips unified ram and OS make working with multiple professional software open at the same time way faster. How does intel ultra compare to this
It doesn’t-the fastest mobile x86 processors are clunky compared to the latest apple silicon chips. Loud, terrible battery life, and now just as unupgradable as Mac’s you’re better off just building a pc or buying a Mac.
@@caydenpo1001 I understand that, but aren't the new intel core ultra chips WAY more efficient now? They seem like a good line up, just think the m1 pro would still be a great competitor and probably cheaper since it's older
@caydenpo1001 First of all, having the ability to replace the SSD is very valuable to me. After the battery, that's the next thing to go. That makes pretty much every modern Mac impossible for me to buy. Also, x86 isn't necessarily worse than RISC. There's a reason RISC isn't used for high performance desktops; it just doesn't scale well. AMD's desktop CPUs are a beast in that regard, and their U and HS series CPUs are still ahead of Intel's.
@@cameronbosch1213 With the way PC laptops are headed it wouldn’t surprise me if you lose the ability to upgrade the SSD’s in the near future-very sad to watch the pc world evolve backward in that regard.

Wait for reviews of the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i with the core ultra processors and mini-LED screen. IMO OLED is still inferior to LCD when it comes to displaying text, due to the subpixel layout and burn in risk. OLED is better for gaming and watching content, but since your use is productivity I don't think mini-LED is inferior

I have both. The G16 fan never goes off and always runs hotter. Definitely worth noting. The G14 has louder speakers (I know, makes no sense) and has brighter keyboard lighting. If you don’t care about the bigger screen and want ultimate portability, go G14. I’m leaning towards the G16 because I’m a sucker for the bigger screen and 240hz, but the fan noise is tough.
I also have the G16 4070 and G14 4070 2024 model both here, but indeed the fans never go silent on the G16 and the G14 it does. Do you also have a different speaker quality on the right side (bottom speaker) of the G16, it sounds less clear then the left side, maybe the speaker is defect on the mine, don't know but the G14 speakers are fine on both sides.
One thing that he did not mention is that the G14 is 100% not compatible with an EGPU according to ASUS Chat and me trying to use a ADT-UT3G as well as a core X. I would have loved the portability of the G14 but be able to RIP it at home with a Desktop 4070 Super that doubles the FPS in a benchmark like Steel Nomad. But wont work. Tests suggest 7-8 hours SOT on light tasks at 60% brightness. As soon as you hit the higher wattage workflows, that falls. For video streaming, you should get closer to 10 hours SOT.
According to other reviews that I've seen, it is not even a competition. G14 wins in every category, the Omen can be a better deal if it is significantly cheaper (I would say 300-400 usd less).
OLED is great for gaming and media watching, but office staff and some pro users will need to go to extra lengths to hide the taskbar and top app menu; otherwise, they will suffer burn-in, as you say.
I think the laptops are nice but feel the price is not worth it as the CPUs even the Ultra Core 185 are way slower than last year's i9 ones. Is it correct according to several sources online? Just the AI component only (NPU). If you buy the old ones i9s with the RTX 4060-4090's the GPU itself is as fast as those with the NPUs? Anyone test that for LLM training?
Yes, Intel has a sideways upgrade this year as they move to their new architecture. The only upgrade is ARC graphics in the ultrabook line (laptops with no dGPU laptops).

This chassis is great, the touchpad is better than most Windows rigs, the keyboard is quiet, the screen is solid, the speakers are ok and performance is great. All at a price about half the price of the 2024s. I'll happily go to the new Zephyrus design when the time comes. For now I'm really enjoying it and I'm pickier than hell!
I chose the G14, love it. If you get a Zephyrus, no matter what you choose, remember you will have to tweak it a bit because it gets really hot!
Mind sharing tips in what to tweak? Thanks

As a 2022 g14 user, I like the new design but I can wait like 2 more generations because the "upgrades" arent that attracting rn, but if someones buying it as their first gaming laptop or upgrade from a super old laptop, I would say they can wait for sale

Unupgradable ram is a bummer. I could use a new 2024 laptop (rtx4080+ new thermals etc), but at the same time at work I need 64 gb ram. Will have to skip this one then.
Great video, I ended up going for the G14, love it, came from Macbooks & Surface devices, the G14 is just different gravy!
I want the G14 4070 so bad. But it's out of stock everywhere in my country.... 😢
Something important I realized when I saw them in person is that the pixels per inch on the G14 is way higher than the G16. The resolution is a little bit higher and the screen is smaller, so the density is higher. If your main work involves looking at text, like mine does, the extra ppi can make a big difference to readability and comfort.
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:13 *💼 The ASUS Zephyrus G14 is more portable and lighter, making it a better choice for those prioritizing mobility.*
00:25 *🚀 For higher-end GPU options (RTX 4080 or 4090), the G16 is the only choice; the G14 offers the RTX 4070 at a similar price point but with more RAM.*
01:06 *🧱 RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, making future upgrades impossible and making a higher initial RAM capacity (32GB) more desirable.*
02:00 *🔌 Port selection is mostly identical between models, with a notable difference in USB standards due to the processor type and the presence of a full-size SD card slot on the G16 versus a micro SD on the G14.*
03:36 *🎨 Color choice affects price differently for each model, with the white G16 costing $200 more and the white G14 being slightly cheaper than its black counterpart.*
04:16 *⌨️ The G16 offers more wrist room for typing, though the keyboard feel and travel distance are the same for both models.*
05:12 *🎵 Both laptops feature six speakers with impressive sound quality, adding value to the multimedia experience.*
05:54 *🖥️ The G16 has a larger and higher refresh rate display (240Hz) compared to the G14 (120Hz), making it more suitable for gaming.*
07:15 *💻 Performance comparison is complex due to different configurations, with the G16 model discussed having a more powerful GPU and CPU but similar RAM speeds.*
10:32 *🔧 Most components are soldered onto the motherboard, limiting repairability and upgrades, except for the Wi-Fi card.*
11:28 *🎮 The choice between the G14 and G16 depends on user needs, with the G16 being preferable for those prioritizing gaming and video creation on a larger display, and the G14 being more suited for frequent travelers seeking portability without sacrificing performance.*

What are your thoughts on the g14 with the 4060, I am looking at that model, but for a little bit more I could get the g14 with the 4070, not sure which makes most sense to get

It seems like the Canadian market gets the G16 4070 with 32gb of RAM? It’s so weird why are there so many variants 😩
they send the good versions off for reviews and then they offer Canadians lesser models. They seem to only offer the excess as well, so not all the options just the ones they have too many of....if u check back weeks later they usually then offer a different variant. Lenovo is really the only one who seems to be offering canadians proper options....u can actually buy this year's laptop with the config u want and the config the reviewers r reviewing. I currently have the g14 with the same specs shown in the video and I am so impressed with it to be honest. The whole quality build and the screen is immaculate. It does really well on battery averaging about 8hrs per day while im in the class room. This is also my first laptop that doesnt have an intel processor and have been loving the AMD so far. Can the G16 with the 4070 also come with 32GB RAM or is it safe to assume that if one gets the 4070, that it is coming with 16GB. Reason being I see G16s advertised (from reliable sellers) to have the 4070 and 32GB.

The 14 would fit easier in my camera bag (carry on, when flying) but I so much like the 16 screen size better and I think I could squeeze it into my camera bag somehow, or just buy a new camera bag 😕, ya don't get me going on that. I don't think the 16 will fit in the laptop sleeve of the Shimoda Explore 40? Otherwise, great review 👍👍
is the fan noise annoying on the silent mode? is it always on even on light tasks like web surfing and movie streaming?
It should be on. Should be quiet on low tasks though
Would you recommend G14 being used with an external monitor for gaming and everything? Could there be any issues or are there any know issues. what about battery life
I bought this laptop, but I've had a TERRIBLE experience.
Had a similar issue with legion slim 5 OLED. Lenovo fixed it free of charge and added a year of warranty
If you had to choose between a legion 5 pro 4070 2 tb 32 gb or a 4070 G16, which one would you go with primarily for gaming?
I like the G14 because i can get 32 GB of RAM while the G16 is another $700 to 800 (SHESH) for a configure with 32 GB of RAM also. Bigger screen don't matter too much because I do work with a monitor. Now, Yes if that's the case I could have got a desktop but I do want a computer that I can bring around easily and have battery power.
How about the 2023 G14 RTX 4090? Does it match with these 2 ?
Do both laptops offer the same performance, it's safe to assume that the larger laptop will offer more wattage to the gpu as well as provide better cooling which highly affects performance.
Is the 4050 version enough for playing heavy games?
Yea...i took 4050
Matt, as an aspiring photographer, using Capture One, along with media ripping, plugged into a Thunderbolt 4 hub, driving a Dell u4025qw, would you opt for the G16 4080 or 4090?
4080 for sure. The 4090 version is not worth you won't get anywhere near true 4090 performance
white is more expensive? psh, where I live (Canada!) they don't even offer it unless you're getting the lowest-end G16
How do you feel about the new scar 18?
the 16" screen sized laptops are not that big these days, they evolved a lot..

I have both. The G16 fan never goes off and always runs hotter. Definitely worth noting.
The G14 has louder speakers (I know, makes no sense) and has brighter keyboard lighting.

Isn't g14 a really hot laptop?
One thing that he did not mention is that the G14 is 100% not compatible with an EGPU according to ASUS Chat and me trying to use a ADT-UT3G as well as a core X. I would have loved the portability of the G14 but be able to RIP it at home with a Desktop 4070 Super that doubles the FPS in a benchmark like Steel Nomad. But wont work.

Another consideration for anyone involved in music production is notebookcheck scored the G14 much better than the G16 in terms of audio dpc latency.
