Just subbed about a week ago. Your tutorial style is so helpful and relaxed, and your portfolio backs up everything you say. Honestly man, this kind of content has been missing from the zbrush community
Haha, yeah I also tried to incorporate their views on not using smooth brush which is very much understandable as it makes the sculpt flat and devoid of any micro surface details hence boring. But still I don't like uneven surfaces for atleast starting phase of the sculpt as for micro surface details I like to add them later.
Nice instructional video. Very clean. Perhaps a video about which brushes with which settings can be used to achieve what type forms would he very helpfull as well. Also video length- wise; to keep the focus on it shorter around 22min is manageable i think no school class or a tv show last for hours and still have viewers undivided attention.
Hey J! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills! You are amazing! And you are a good tutor! I just want to thank you sincerely, your video helped me a lot, especially that part of using the Projection function, I didn't know how it should be used until you taught me in this tutorial! And as for giving back, I'd like to mention a thing that I know which might be quite important for your or any artist that make sculpting and other artistic creations, that is: I got to know this by accident from reading on a scientific study; it focused on studying the legal cases which included false statements that were provided by witnesses in trials on the court. The ending result of the study didn't provide a significant relevance on what the scientists wanted to prove but rather revealed another extremely significant connection: all the witnesses who provided false evidence/testimonials, they smiled to the judge or the jury with a nearly exact way - they smiled with wrinkles on their nose, or one could say they had tensions on the muscles around the nasal area. And by the following comparative study made by that same group of scientists, they filled the link between obvious aggression behaviors and that kind of smiles, nearly all of the mammals, when they strengthen the muscle area around the nose, it is a major signal for initiating an attack, but only human could hide this strong intention of the instinct with a smile on the face in the same time, yet deep down that facial expression still means a very aggressive emotion is taking the major role in who is making this gesture. The connection has a correlation very, if I remembered it right, higher than 98% in more than 120 cases, which means it is a fact scientifically. So, guys, when you see one smile with wrinkles on their nose, who does that is having an embarrassing contradicted moment in the heart but still wants to show friendliness on the face. It is a behavior of the result of suppressing/restraint of the instinct by norms of social courtesy.
Glad you’re back! I would love to see tips and trix, technical or psychological, on how to speed things up in general. I know it’s perhaps impossible, since people have their own workflow and skill level. It’s something I struggle with anyway. I’m often ”pretty happy” with how my models turn out, but I feel that I spend way too much time on them. It’s like I know that if I spent half the time, I would still get 80% quality. I just can’t stop tweaking and tweaking, searching for perfektion that I never really achieve anyway.
Thanks for the tutorial. Since I have started to study how to model/sculpt humans, proportions and anatomy have been a huge problem for me. I have problems visualising the 3d space, and end up focusing on local detail way to often, which in turn I mess up when doing the mid range, or low poly stuff. For some reason something clicked for me after watching this a bunch of times. Thanks for the workflow tips, and easy to watch video! Your ui is killer too, was happy to see that it is still compatible. All the best to you :) Who knows how big a role these videos will have on other artists works, and in return their life.
Good to see you back!! Just a quick check on the ears, they might be a bit too high on the head. Either the referenced person is a few standard deviations away from middle of the bell-curve, or the perspective of the photo is tricking you. If you make a skull ecorche on the side profile (@25:13), and follow the zygomatic arch, the earhole should be under it. Or imagine her with glasses on and notice the skewed angle its feet should be in for the glasses to fit on her head. I used to struggle alot with ears and your tutorial is actually the one that helped me the most to overcome it!!
ayy glad to see ur back. During your utube break ive practiced a lot of zbrush so im glad i can just sit along and watch the vids now instead of stressfully tryina follow every step. peeeace
Really glad to see you back! I enjoyed the whole flow of the video. Can’t wait for part 2 and looking forward to picking up your course when I have some time to commit to it. Keep it up man!
Welcome back! Love your older videos and subscribed because you've got a lot of talent and your tutorials have been informative and easy to understand. Excited to see whats to come!
Amazing video!! I am very happy to see that this channel still alive because i have learned a lot watching your tutorials and your workflows, Big thanks :)
Subscribed couple days ago, saw your profile on Artstation, saw profile picture and was like "i saw this guy somewhere on youtube long time ago", in bio you had your youtube channel link and here I am. Funny that like 4 days after that you are coming back, keep it goin, learned a lot :D
So glad to see you back man! Excellent video as always! Can’t wait to see what you have planned. The production quality on this one was just right imo, a good mix of time lapse and detail! Any plans to ever take a character from start to game ready on here’? I know that’s a huge undertaking. Thanks for the video sir!
Glad you liked it! I don’t think I’ll be able to make a full game character but I might do a series on making game art. Fundamentals that could be applied to props and character stuff
Thx for mentioning the eyes pointing outward. I was working on my sculpt and felt the need to rotate them out. I thought i sculpt the face wrong, so this really helped. Came from danny mac btw 😁
Suscribed! I wish we could've seen how you wraped those eyelids around the eyes, it's like, the hardest part for me right now (I'm extremely new in 3d sculpt) and a doubt, how did you smooth all those harsh dam standard wrinkles? Thank you very very much!
thanks for the sub! probably just used the move brush idk. It helps to have topology that circles the lids. ZRemesher can help that and makes it easier to position
I would love to see a portion of the detail sculpting in real time. I'm so used to watching time-lapses that I go to fast when I work myself and end up making a mess. It would be really nice to see at what speed you actually sculpt.
I picked up so many useful things from this one video! Ive only been teaching myself zbrush for two months now in my down time and this video helped fill in some gaps ive had. Subbed and looking forward to more :)
@@artofjhill Back watching the video to make sure I miss nothing. Trying to sculpt another model in blender this time. I really miss this type of videos. Keep up the amazing work!
Don't forget you promised me to make a tutorial in making a game character from start to finish :D. Since you asked for tutorial suggestions, i think this long journey is gonna be definitely interesting to all of us.
even if its like simple small character. but knowing the workflow and getting a model ready, retopology, texturing it ..etc. till we get all the pieces together is just satisfying :D
Great video! I often find myself thinking that I should make models faster, because I won't get a job in the industry if I'm not fast enough (without sacrificing quallity of course). It would be awesome if You could give us more tips on anatomy like the one with eyes angle (it was really surprising to hear that the eyeballs are not set perfectly straight) Awesome work keep it up! :)
Thanks! Glad you liked the video and learned something. Yea, the Eye thing is a super common mistake. Anatomy is a big topic but I'm sure I'll mention things here are there. cheers!
@@artofjhill Thanks for Your answer :) Also if You would ever find Yourself looking for a topic for a video, maybe discussing a differences between making low poly mesh for a character, that has one outfit, and the character that can change clothes?
