Tony.... I just boiught a 2002 Grand Cherokee with 130,000 miles on it. Your vid on oil changing is terrific. Really appreciate your step by step walk through. Thanks loads..... Ax
You're a life saver lol, just got a 01 grand Cherokee and don't know how to do much maintenance on it but thanks to you making a playlist on them I can finally do things on it myself
Great video! My only thing is that using the old oil to put on the seal is not really a great idea, it's best to use a little of the new oil, that's clean. But still a great video and very helpful.
Great video. Awesome accent (I’m from Northern California). Going to go change my oil now. One thing: if you don’t want Walmart and the dealership to become to only places you can buy car parts you need to go to your local auto parts store. I don’t work in the industry so I’m not saying this to benefit myself. You vote for the economy you want by how and where you spend your money.
Nice vid, I agree with person who said not to use dirty gritty contaminated oil to lube filter gasket. Not a bad idea to put a little oil in filter and move around so filter material absorbs oil but dont put in to much oil since filter horizontally mounted and dont want leaking all over. Next time take fill cap off and set aside, take filter off first then drain plug last and watch how fast oil comes out of drain plug hole which in turn may get some more stubborn contaminants/ debris to flow out of drain plug hole
Well since my dad is going upstate, and i need to get my jeep fixed and on the road i guess i will be doing my own oil change , so wish my luck . Gnna go to the auto part store tomorrow
You forgot to mention the bolt size on your wrench... But since your vid is pretty hi-res... I could see it as 5/8"(at 4:36) on the wrench!!!! LOL... Thanks anyway... Mike in LA, Calif :-)
So the oil should be between the 2 dots on the dip stick? Mine has the 2 dots but also has a line etched in it a little further up the dip stick. Good video. I searched quite a few jeep oil change videos before I found this one which has the same engine as mine. 2004. My oil cap on top is a plain cap with no markings and I wasn't sure where to put the new oil in. Thanks.
Nice video. I have an 02 WJ and i think I've got a ticking lifter. About to change the oil and add some Marvel Mystery Oil to see if it quiets it down.
There may be crude built up on the lifters from inexpensive oil that wasn't changed every 3,000 miles. I bought this one used, and there was a ton of burnt oil on the lifters..ugh
The Jeep wave started during WW2. The Wave started as a way to differentiate ally and enemy or as a simple greeting from one fellow soldier to another.
I just bought some 16 k ramps and everything was going good until i had to change the filter. 😂 i had a little step ladder though so i did manage to change it. You think if i put my car in neutral i can back out from the ramps? Just to get the filter out a little bit easier
I pretty much run full synthetic oil in everything that I own. If you have over 100,000 miles on your Jeep Grand Cherokee you may want to use the high mileage oil, because it has additives in it to help condition and swell old gaskets to help to prevent oil leaks. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!
Yea you aont lying I do the same thing. Always buy my oil in 5qt containers from walmart. You can get top in for typically under 30 plus 1 more qt. Suprised you didnt get the mobile 1 filter but the mopar good. I need to get those stands tho seems like an easy way.
Thanks, I’m mechanically challenged. 😂. I also have this exact same car in that color, but my 4 wheel drive is broke and has 210k miles it’s a the way out

Thank you so much for your help.. Today is the first time I did it myself. I'm so proud. 2002 jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

There is more old oil that is left in the motor than on that seal. It isn't going to hurt anything

Thanks! My first oil change after watching this. Have an 04' WJ 4x4. Now I can save money and use the good oil and filters!

Thanks for the video Tony! I just bought a 2004 Grand Cherokee & it took 6 qts.
Glad this helped you out!

Nice to see your from new hampshire as well u got a Facebook? I'm bringing my jeep back to life.
Thanks for watching
This is a great video and very helpful. Does the grand Cherokee need a crush washer?
There should be a washer on the oil pan bolt. I do not think that it was a crush washer.
You forgot to mention the bolt size on your wrench... But since your vid is pretty hi-res... I could see it as 5/8"(at 4:36) on the wrench!!!! LOL... Thanks anyway... Mike in LA, Calif :-)

I always use new oil for the filter rubber seal and always unscrew the oil cap to make sure the oil comes out with the gravity of the air.
Yes, you should loosen the oil cap. You can use clean oil on the seal doesn't really matter.
Thanks very helpful! You just saved me 50 bucks ! I don't have to deal with a jack leg mechanic. I can do it myself. 😆
This is pretty easy to do Doug. Hope this helps you out.

If is has the 4.0 it takes 10W 30 Glad to hear this video helped you out!

Glad you enjoyed it
Correct no oil filter wrench needed. Great pointing that out.
Thanks for watching.
Awesome video thanks for the tips
Thanks for watching!
Helpful to know where everything was before I started
Thanks for watching
The Jeep wave started during WW2. The Wave started as a way to differentiate ally and enemy or as a simple greeting from one fellow soldier to another.
Great history lesson...pretty cool
Thanks tony
You're welcome
I bought a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee for $1,700 is that good? It runs and drives good
Yes
Yeah not bad
I just bought some 16 k ramps and everything was going good until i had to change the filter. 😂 i had a little step ladder though so i did manage to change it. You think if i put my car in neutral i can back out from the ramps? Just to get the filter out a little bit easier

Do you find the Full Synthetic oil working good? I just bought a 2001 Limited V8 and didn't know if people were still using conventional oil or not.
I use Mobil 1 in everything that I own.
Didn’t know jeep owners waved to each other guess it couldn’t hurt.👍🏻
Wrangler owners wave, because you might need a ride when you break down..lol
Yes indeed. It is fun when both parties comply...lol
1998 4.0 should be the same? Great video
It's the same on the 93-98 4.0 grand as well..had a build ZJ with a 4" Rubicon lift back in the day. Hope this helps bud..keep Jeepin..Tony
If signal light won't work sometimes but if put Hazzard on then light works not all the time need to do that
It could be the turn signal switch going bad
What oil filters can be used on these cars?
I like WIX filters, you can also buy a Mopar filter for it at Walmart.
What kind of oil do u prefer using in a 2004 jeep grand Cherokee wj
I pretty much run full synthetic oil in everything that I own. It would be awesome if you did a transmission fluid replacement video I have the same car
Thanks for posting I'll keep this request in mind

Great video, nice & easy now I can change my own oil lol
Glad this helped you out
What size oil filter wrench u need
Not sure of actual size but it's a medium size oil wrench.
When do you add the additive??
What additive are you referring to?
Instead of the 6 qts I want to add Lucus Treatment to my Jeep. I've never done an oil change before. How much Lucus will I need?
Thanks
I would just do the oil change if nothing is acting up
I used 5w-20 for my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 cause I forgot what kind, do u think it would harm my engine, also it is around 50 degrees where I’m at
You should use what is recommended in the owner's manual. I believe it was 10w 30 on this Jeep.
Thanks, I’m mechanically challenged. 😂. I also have this exact same car in that color, but my 4 wheel drive is broke and has 210k miles it’s a the way out
Hope this video helps you out
Hey what size wrench do you need to remove the oil storage cap
I believe it was 5/8
5/8 I believe
I'm not sure of the exact size, it was like a medium size one.
Was it 10w30 oil
I believe so. It should be stated in the video. Also check your owner's manual for the recommended oil weight for your Jeep. Have a great day!
Carful theses threads on the pan strip easily
Always catch the bolt my hand. Then just snug with the wrench. You don't need to crank down on it.
How to reset the p/service system?
Ask and you shall receive ..lol ua-cam.com/video/0dFHF5ls4ss/v-deo.html
I bought Mobil 1 from Canadian Tire. I have to add oil to mine and I've never done it before so I'm quite worried
It’s easy... did you get it figured ourt
How many liter i need ?
It should take 6 quarts with a filter change.
U didn't even say what size socket or wrench to use. The only reason I clicked on the vid.
You should have watched up to 2:20 of the video. It is explained here.
@@HomeOwnerRepair oh. I was skipping around. Sorry bout that then
Mines too damn stuck to get off in the first place
The oil filter is stuck?
@@HomeOwnerRepair it was, I had to use a power tool to get it off
I thought they took 5w30
The 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 engines should take 10W 30 Check your owners manual to make sure.
I thought 5w30 too
Use new oil. Dont put that dirt on a new filter.

Easy?? 15 min video!
10-15 minutes tops...it’s easy to do!
Yep, 15 minutes for an oil change is simple.
