A very small dab of purple or blue thread locker on the bottom cage screw will prevent it from loosening up while not making it too hard to loosen when you want it to for cage removal. Same goes for any other screw based cage accessories.
I use large lenses and found a workaround for reaching the lens release button. Use the Mamba tool. Slip the wide end between cage and port opening covers on left side of camera. Use gently as a lever in your left hand lifting outside small end to press down on the lens release button with the wide end. Of course you need to have a solid grip on the lens while doing this.
Canon use to have a cable that goes from the camera hotshoe to the flash foot so that you can use a handle to flip the flash to the top when you are shooting vertical. See if there's one for this new shoe. They should have one since they are going to be changing all the hotshoes to this electronic one.
That's a great point. I looked for it, but was unsuccessful at finding it. I would imagine with this new hotshoe being the standard moving forward, more options will become available. Thanks for the watch!
thanks for the video. too much noise on black sides, all clog shots are like that? do you think some problem on clog profile in this camera? if you use this camera and cage with ibis, do you think too much jerky effect on top corners?
Noise doesn’t really bother me. I rarely pay attention to it. I didn’t think the corners were any worse than my R5 when it comes to being unstable. Thanks for watching!
There are also flash cables for sale that you attach to the hot shoe on the camera and then via an extension cable with a hot shoe at the end on which you then place your flash. Is it not possible to also extend the new microphone with the same construction of hot shoe extension? so that you can place it on the smallrig bracket. do you know if there is one availeble for sell.
@@ExDeadman I did read your question. In my video I talk about how tight the fit is with lenses. The fit would be a concern for me because of how tight of a fit it is at the lens mount. Hey. Great Video! I am thinking about purchasing this camera cage. When the cage is attached to the camera, is is able to go on a tripod with the tripod mount on?

I just bought a small rig cage for my M50. Except for the extra weight, it's great. But I definitely won't buy the BlackMamba Cage for the R7 because it's of no use to me. Why? As a journalist, I always have to write something down. Therefore I need a camera strap. But it can only be attached to the cage. On the M50, the strap stays on the camera. If I remove the cage from the R7, I have the camera without a strap. Another incorrect design is the cold shoe. On the M50 it is offset from the camera strap so that I can attach an LED light, for example, without coming into conflict with the strap. Here on the R7 the belt holder and the cold shoe are at the same height. Therefore, I cannot attach an LED light or microphone to the cold shoe with a belt without the parts coming into conflict with the belt.
Those are great points you make. My guess is the R&D department at Small Rig isn't thinking about journalists (sounds like they should) and mainly focus on videographers. I own the cage for my R7, R5 and XH2 and they are all designed VERY differently. Not sure if they are trying to constantly evolve their design or what but they definitely don't have continuity as a brand. Happy New Year!
the big problem with this cage is that smallrig cut off the metal part under the front grip for the pinky finger ... with small form factor camera like this one ... a metal extension under the handgrip is very important and not sure why smallrig would cut it off ! a very terrible design decision.
How are you enjoying your SmallRig "Black Mamba" cage for your EOS R7? Tell me below.
