Sehr interessant! Ich bastel mir gerade in kleinen Schritten ein Rig für meine R6 zusammen und lerne daher viel von den verschiedenen Varianten, das eigene Rig zu gestalten.
If you want a cage, that doesn't block the Canon filter adapter (so you can replace the filters, while you have the cage on the camera), then you want the Kondor Blue R5C specific cage, that's coming out soon.
I am apprehensive about getting an external monitor for my R5C because someone on UA-cam said - and this could be wrong info - that the touchscreen functionality of the R5C (the touch screen to focus) will not transfer over to external monitor nor be available at all on the original monitor? Is this true - lose autofocus in exchange for an external monitor? Doesn't make sense because then why would anyone get an external monitor? Looking for final answer on this and the recommended monitor asap for a shoot! do you know for sure what the case is?
You will not loose autofocus, but tap to focus. The reason why you would get a monitor anyway is because you use the joystick to change the zone, the face selection via the data ring, or manual focus.
hi. I came across such a problem. when I power the camera through exactly the same dtap, the camera does not turn on after switching off and I have to take out the cord and insert it again, and only then it can turn on again.
Becareful of the SmallRig hand strap as it does not grip the strap. I had to tie it to stop the strap just sliding out. Eventually I went for another make.
@@johannesdoerr I went for the Peak Design CL-3 eventually and threw the SmallRig in the bin. The last thing I needed was it coming undone while I was carrying the camera. Also the SmallRig cages like most others will not allow you to remove the filter if you have the EF adapter with filter slide on. The only way to remove the filter is by removing the lens and the adapter. I did contact SmallRig about this and they never reply even though they then bring out more cages for the R5 & R6 without modify it.

Maybe you have an idea and/or tip for me? Thanks in advance :-)
Hello Johannes, thank you for your very helpful video on building your R5C rig. I have recreated it very largely like this, but I still have a problem: if I want to attach the plate for my (Sachtler) tripod to the clamp with two or three screws, then the camera is at a right angle to the rig. When I want to align the camera parallel, I can only attach the tripod plate to the clamp with a screw, which might be a little unsafe. Am I making any mistake in thinking? Do you have another tip? Thanks in advance Ralf
Sorry for the late reply. Well, I have the same problem actually since I bought the big SmallRig tripod with fluid head. It seems like those tripods use the arca swiss plate in the direction of the lens axis, not the camera body, which surprised me because this is incompatible with arca swiss plates integrated into camera cages. You would probably need another rod block to give your plate more support, or mount an additional arca swiss clamp on the tripod that is rotated.
@@johannesdoerr No worries, thanks for the reply! Is it because the camera is solely used for video shooting and being powered by the V-Mount battery? I've seen most rigs people make is without the battery grip.
@@pr1sm55 I use the camera also for photo, but not with this rig. That rig is indeed only for video. For photo, the internal battery is enough for my needs, and I just use the bare camera body. And instead of using a battery grip, I would just quickly insert the second battery when the first one is empty. The grip has an advantage though for shooting vertically because of the additional grip + controls. If I got a grip, it would probably be the WFT file transmitter grip, but it is too expensive in my opinion, so I'm keeping my hopes up that Canon will update the firmware to add Wifi options in video mode.
Do you get 8k 60fps with the dummy battery with power to the lens also? If not, a v mount battery with a pd usb-c connection is a better solution. Nice rig otherwise!
Weird story… I had the “lens does not work” problem, so Alvin’s Cables promised me to send a fixed version. I received that today, but it has the same problem. I’ll keep you updated.
@@johannesdoerr I don’t think the R5c will ever be able to receive 9 volts from the battery compartment, it’s not set up that way. You need 9V 5A power delivery via USB-C. FXlion makes v mount batteries that are great for this purpose.
The canon dr-e6c dummy battery supports that according to the Power Navigation function in the R5C, so I don’t think that there is such a limitation on the camera side.
@@johannesdoerr there is a new canon dummy battery coming soon specifically for the R5c, called the dr-e6c, but the official site says “only provides power in photo mode”, and only “9V 3A anyway. Hatte leider auch nur die EOS RP für die Aufnahme zur Verfügung, weil alles andere ja auf dem Tisch liegt. Also keine richtigen Exposure tools oder so… :)
I can live with the micro hdmi… bigger problem is the missing Wi-Fi in video mode. Lack of IBIS is also ok. I talked about all of this in my R5C review video in case you’re interested.
