One reason for sanding the pipe, is that Fieldpiece wireless clamps need a good electrical connection from one side to the other or it won't show a reading. This is a probably to ensure the tech has a good connection to the pipe.
You have 3 points of state of the refrigerant....superheated ( temp above sat temp ) saturated ( maximum amount before a change of state ) subcooling ( temp below saturated temp )
