    My second year HVAC teacher used to be the Trane tech rep for the whole state. They found some dusty old neglected books....all about airflow. They made it their mission to teach the new generation the importance of air flow. Calls himself an, 'air-head' quit proudly. But when a job gets tricky....for no seemingly good reason....it's airflow. Could be duct design flaws, could be debris, could be fan speeds. But it's a whole dimension of HVAC that seems the most neglected.

      @Niveous23 One of my all time favorites is when we went on companies jobs where duct work was undersized.. I would see ONE 4 inch return for THE ENTIRE 2nd FLOOR of a home with a upflow gas furnace in the basement. Then they wonder why it is always hot upstairs ? Saw a lot of this on 2 story Cape Cod homes in New Jersey

    Good job as always man. The way you fixed the airflow was good. If you can show a video on one of the new carrier dip switches, the Lennox, the more new furnaces because a lot of people get confused with reading the manuals. Great video man,this will show a lot of newbies to the trade to not just add refrigerant and leave!

Ecobee was never on the wall tho and looking back, almost every time it has been the fuze which wrecked out or the ecobee after pressing it onto the wall plate. Hopefully Craig can save the day on this LOL.

    I’m a commercial hvac tech since 1994. I have swapped out 10 and 20 ton compressors and had to swap oils. Every single rep I have talked to said the same exact thing about contaminants between the different oils saying just dump it and refill with new. I have never had a issue with contaminanting system so I absolutely don’t believe that hoses can do this.

    Hello, Craig, please make a video of why the liquid line may sweating in cool mode. I have a real weird case of replacing a 10-ton Carrier condenser. The temperature of the liquid line is below the ambient temperature, it’s about 70f from the exit of the condenser up to the coils. But it’s only sweating inside of the house. Across filter drier no temperature drop. Suction pressure 110psi. SH 10, SC 0, if adding more refrigerant, suction line starts freezing. I’ve insulated the liquid line for now but I want to fix it the right way. Thank you for your videos.

    My recommendation for those new NE florida techs specially new construction.
    1.make sure your king valves are all the way open
    2.air filter is clean
    3.make sure your thermostat and condenser wire isnt switched up (since green isnt used coming from condenser)
    3.5.Youre blower kicks on (jump G terminal with your alligator jumper to R) and the bolt is tight to the blower motor shaft
    4.your air handler door is on 😂
    5. If its still freezing up well make sure your txv is not freezing up (stuck close) usually itll go to pump down or stay at a crazy pressure like 50-80psi lets say 80-100f hot day :run it heat for 20 mins so it can unstick making it open up)
    6. Your thermostats are calling and dampers match thermostats zones..and see if your dampers are fully open or closed when needed to.and bypass click on motor is clicked on well ( if it isnt all the extra air will go back to the evap coil freezing/choking the coil up or overheating the system in heat mode(winter time)

      1/2 ton oversize shouldn’t be a big issue, but 1/2 ton undersized evaporator, and you will have issues even with a txv. Unless the compressor can compensate for the heat reduction, you will get slugging with a txv.

    More importantly, what brands should I avoid at all costs?

  • @jakbo_
    @jakbo_ 4 місяці тому

    The problem with that CFM flow device is that you had to remove the filter to test it so you're not really testing what the actual CFM on the system is going to be. As soon as you add that filter you may have went from 3 tons to 1 1/2

    • @acservicetechchannel
      @acservicetechchannel  4 місяці тому +2

      The tool and app incorporate the static pressure measurements of with and without the filter to extrapolate what the cfm would be with it in. That's why there are two measurements in their program to find airflow.

    When you fed in the refrigerant from the high side hose back into the low side at the end, wouldn't opening the valves on the manifold push refrigerant from the low side into the manifold?

      Pressures will equalize. High pressure will feed the lower pressure side.

      Think about it.
      The manifold represents whatever service valve is open, if you open the low side valve, that pressure around 120 fills the manifold chamber, then he cracked the high side valve, bleeding the higher pressure liquid from the high side into the manifold chamber, and drawn into the running suction hose. Once both sides are equalized, he has transferred as much refrigerant from the hoses as possible, hen he closed the low side service port, and disconnected the hose from the suction line. Then he bled off the “deminimus” remaining pressure from both hoses.

      I think I understand it. I forgot that the unit is on and that's the suction line so it's going to be sucking in any vapor liquid from the service port.

    Craig I work for the government doing HVAC. I do not own personal gauges. Do you recommend wireless or manifold?

    Good morning Craig.
    Do you prefer thermistor clamps or thermocouple clamps?

    Hi, would low air flow also cause the suction line temp to be very low as well? Maybe 30° suction line temp.

    Quick question a carrier unit at the condenser the suction line isn’t sweating it’s getting cold but not sweating like the unit right next to it they have two units for the house. The capacitor is a 35/5 and the micro fareds after testing is 29 on the Herm but the compressor is on and is not humming. I’m suspecting low refrigerant but the ambient temps inside the house is 76 degrees and the T stat is set at 73. Could a cap that’s lower than its 6% capacitance cause this or is it just low refrigerant? I’m going to buy some digital gauges to have to check pressures and all that but I don’t work for a company I did graduate the course with a degree in refrigeration but I just do small troubleshooting on the side in the neighborhood. Just getting info on other things to check the condensate is not clogged and the air filter is clean.

    I have a problem that maybe you could trouble shoot?
    The coil above the filter freezes up if I try to run the A/C too cold.
    How cold should I be able to set it before this happens?
