First Impressions Singapore 🇸🇬 | Exploring Singapore on Foot

- What to do: A whole day in Singapore! This has to be one of the easiest cities to get around. The bus system seems very convenient and you can use the Grab App. In this video, we decide to explore the city on foot. The sidewalks are huge, clean, and shaded with huge trees and plants. It’s just a walking-friendly city. We start on Orchard Street and head to 313@Somerset mall for boba teas. We head towards the marina walking through Fort Canning Park and then to the famous Merlion statue (about 4km). Afterward, the kids were getting tired so we took a Grab to the Gardens By the Bay for dinner and a light show. It was amazing to see the whole park lit up at night.
We hope you enjoyed this video. Feel free to SHARE this with your friends and family who might be interested in exploring Singapore.
In our next video, I (Kelly) head into surgery while Jonathan and the kids find another hawker centre. Watch to find out which foods they decide to try this time!

Not a single hint of complaints from those walks and the heat for kids this age, super impressive!!
as a local im genuinely impressed by how much you guys walked despite the relentlessly humid weather...well done 😂👍
I think the McDonald’s at the end really helped the kids. 😆
We Singaporean can't 'tahan' 😂🌹🙋🏾♀️📸
@@BagsPackedFamily 😊😊👍
@@LeaZalehaSix5 wow yes we all tahan this all day so we all like 💀
Your kids are definitely troopers! Their sense of adventure and enthusiasm are something to be proud of. Not a hint of complaint. You should be proud
I married a Singaporean and living here for 35 years. Love this nation. Proud to be a citizen 😎 wonderful family. Welcome to Singapore
It’s a beautiful country.
your children are patient and respectful to you your wife and all the people you meet, it really shows how good people u guys are
I have never seen Forest this excited. Looks like he's really enjoying Singapore.
O absolutely
Forest absolutely loves Singapore! 😆
@@BagsPackedFamilyguys! Don’t forget to try duck rice with char sui pork and chicken rice absolute best in Singapore. Try lucky chicken in lucky plaza and any duck or char sui rice at hawker food court!
WELCOME TO SINGAPORE HAPPY FAMILY
@@ericsentanu7752 or tian tian chicken rice at Maxwell?????? (Never tried before tho but always long queue)
A great video! As a local, i see that you explored Singapore well compared to those who mainly presented the popular attractions. You went through the less explored sights and that is really great. You learned and explored the history of Singapore with your family. Your 3 kids are so well behaved and adorable. You presented and narrated well in your video. I really like your accent. It's so easy to understand. Sending my felicitations to your happy and harmonious family! Well done! Already subscribed to your channel. Hope to see more interesting and educational contents from you all. Cheers!!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support, James.
I'm going thru depression currently in my life. Among millions of videos in the UA-cam, only your channel entertains me. Keep on going 'Bags Packed Family'
Some of singapore's favourite drinks to cool down is iced milo, various milk and boba tea, ice lemon tea. You could try the singaporean breakfast - some kaya butter toast, half boiled eggs in soy sauce, coffee or tea.
Great that you caught the local ice cream uncle. Its quite the memory for a lot of singaporean children since theyre the most active at after school hours.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! Singapore breakfast sounds amazing. :-)
Singapore is like an island theme park by itself where everywhere is so nice and clean and fun and you can shop and eat all day and safe still be enjoying bits here and there leisurely and still get some fun 😊
I'm so impressed by your family. Kelly and you are very loving and patient parents and your kids are adorable! Cedar and Granite are very well behaved and smart, and Forest is just too cute. I expected him to crash and be all cranky after that long walk but he surprised me. Here's wishing Kelly a speedy recovery.
It's nice how you involve kids into the Vlog, asking them questions and enhancing their knowledge.
Cedar is a smart girl and has a good observation. See u in the next video.
What great family bonding. The kids especially Forest are super at walking those long distances. Yes, walking along Singapore River all the way is a great way to explore.
Thank you for showing me my country through your eyes! Love the way your family interact with each other! Hope you enjoyed your trip to SG and will come back for more! Stay safe and well!❤
Thank you! 😃
The quality of content is definitely increasing and this has to be one of the best vlogs of Bags Packed Fam. Equally distributed screen time for touristy information and family experiences. Also, loved when Cedar takes hold of the camera for a few seconds.
Thank you so much for the feedback, Sarit Parida! We're heading out to film for the next several weeks, and look forward to taking this approach to the filming.
Fun fact: Fort Caning Park used to be a populated cemetery before they converted it to a park. Most of the cemeteries had been exhumed and the headstones are lined along the walls just next to it. It used to be owned by the British during the colonial era, and the old buildings on top of the hill is now a famous hotel. You can see some headstones left still intact as well. Have fun exploring at night!
Oh wow! Thanks for the added information!
What's special in a grave at night? 😂
What a lovely family! Can’t imagine your children are walking without complaining, it is quite a long walk through the civic district. There is a lovely Fort Canning park and a shrine of the last Sultan of the Malacca Sultanate just above the cemetery.
Thank you so much! The civic district is very nice.
wow i usually never watch the entirety of a 40min video but this vlog was really good, really enjoyed it
Thank you so much for watching and for the feedback!
Great family !! Your children are very intelligent. Articulate & they give their honest opinions. Well~ behaved, respectful too. Wonderful parents 😘
Granite holding Forest's hand, while they navigate through the market... Your family is so so special. So much love to you guys ❤❤
Thank you so much!
Wow.. great way to show the kids places on earth 😊. Fascinated by your youngest child; he has all the energy to walk long distances 👍👏
Lovely lovely family! Your kids are troopers! Simply amazed by lil Forest's energy ❤
25:55 I like how your kids taste durian ice cream. They take a small bite to try and just shake their head if they didn't like it. Some people are too dramatic about trying something new and have to go all insult mode if they think something taste bad. You taught your kids well to the right attitude to life and adventure.
Now this is pretty much wholesome content. I like how you ask your kids' opinion and as you already know, kids can't lie about stuff like this :). Keep up the good work! This inspired me to leave my own comfy spot under the rock and explore my own country.
Such a great channel - a beautiful, humble and such a well mannered family. I really enjoyed your India videos. Being an Indian living in the US, it was wonderful to see your family enjoying my home country
I've been loving to watch your videos since you were in Bali and your videos are way getting better, engaging to watch, sir, I hope your family are blessed with joy and health.
Your kids are so smart and adorable! I can't help but notice how tiny Forest is and how brave he is walking on his own. So cute! I hope you enjoy your stay in Singapore! I love going to tourists spots as well and bring my two boys along. They love the views too! I'm waiting for my 4 year old to grow a little bit taller to go to Jewel Changi Airport Manulife Sky Nets. 😁
The large field in front of the National Gallery and Old Supreme Court is called the padang (malay for field). Although people do use it for sports, it is also a significant historical ground. It is where the victory parade for Japanese surrender at the end of WW2 was held and also our first few national day parades were held here
Oh, wow. Thanks for the history!
Really admire your dedication in encouraging the kids on and especially their stamina. Really really good kids 👍👍👍👍👏👏
Granite is such a sweet soul...he a caring brother 💗💗love for granite
He’s a good big brother!
Such a wonderful video log of your wall through the modern and historical part of Singapore. Your kids are incredible walkers and so adventurous in spite of the heat and humidity
The Singaporea river was a trading hub zone in the past and was very dirty but went through a major clean up and now become what you see today
Oh, wow! Thanks for the context. :-)
That Ferris wheel is actually called THE SINGAPORE FLYER…it’s one of the iconic landmarks in Singapore..:glad that all of u enjoy Singapore that much…❤
What a super brave lady is Kelly and your family is amazing take care much love from the UK 🇬🇧
What a beautiful family! Forest is the happiest of all, being carried every where. Cedar and granite are such great kids, so matured and smart!
What a great family. And what a interesting and enjoyable walk through the city....
Yes I can imagine the sensory overload in the city. With different vibes and colours and sights from point to point
Singapore is a beautiful city!
Very cute family. Hope you guys enjoyed the tour in Singapore ❤❤❤
Wishing your family well!! Loved your Singapore vlogs!! ❤️❤️
oh wow..super impress with how you guys actually walked from orchard to merlion! Great vlog and love your kids!
Greet video! The lights were so nice! It looks like your family are all really having good time on Singapore. Hope Kelly's surgery went well and then path for a speedy recovering. The ancient cementary was really interesting too. Cant wait to see what adventures you and your family will discover next. 🎉 🌴
Thank you so much! Singapore is an amazing city!
Great video, it was nice meeting you guys. Looking forward to watch your next adventures.
Such a lovely family. I enjoyed the walking adventures! 🌼😄
There are alot of american expats in Singapore & no doubt it is not a cheap city but if you are on expatriate's term (working) & eating in non touristy areas, then, it is affordable. Singapore is also good to raise children because the standard of education is high & it is the 4th safest country in the world now. You should purchase an unlimited travel card for bus/train in subway station (SMRT) to get around.
Singapore is a very beautiful city!
I came across your channel today and I enjoyed every minute of this video. You guys seem like great parents and I was pleasantly surprised that one of you ordered a durian ice cream ( Most foreigners I know are not fans of durians). As a local, I love ice creams by these mobile stalls. I always go for the ice cream sandwich.
Forest is the star in this video. Just love him!
🙋🏾♀️📸Welcome to Singapore. Glad you like our tiny little island. 🙋🏾♀️
You could always ask one of the locals how to get on the bus, I'm sure we would be happy to help. You can pay with coins to get a ticket on the public bus, ask the bus captain if you're still unsure. Hope that will help!
Happy new year to you and your family! I love the little man, he's adorable!
I am pleased that you came to visit my country. Honestly, even I as a local havent been to some of those places too!
Great vlog and hope you had a great time! Come again soon!
Impressed by your tour in Singapore Hope you and your family be back again
The Art Science Museum has a super fun interactive display. Kids love it there.
We’ll be back in the spring and will definitely go for a visit!
great video! Nice to see you and your family enjoy your time in Singapore. Do come back again!
You guy strong and kind, hope you guy stay hydration whole day!!!
We have park connector, botanic garden, east coast park ...& beware of raining day ...
Wow I like Singapore what's a very famous country in the world..
Singapore is who grow very fast than others countries 🔥
I'm from India,🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Went to Singapore at least 10 times before because my wife love this little country for shopping. Before anyone go to Singapore, they should read the history first to understand more. Best is to read who is Lee Kuan Yew.
Gosh! I've been following all your travels, and all of a sudden, you are a few hundred yards from my apartment, in the building where I get my haircut, and where my branch of the public library system is! Welcome to Singapore, folks!
What awesome kids you have, espacially little Forest, walking all the way with no complain 🥰👍👏👏👏👏
What a lovely family you have! Here's a hint, for the truly unique Singapore ice cream experience, ask the vendor to put the ice cream block in a slice of colourful "rainbow bread" aka Roti, instead of the wafer. The chewy texture of the bread contrasts with the ice cream nicely.
Thanks for the tip! We'll be back in Singapore this April for Kelly's wrist appointment. We'll look roti ice cream then.
He ran out of bread.Sold out!
Thank you for your video again. I was not good with words but just ❤ it. Couldnt helped 😂 when Forest shouted he wanted to take a shower...he always made me smiled with his cuteness. Wish you and your family always stay happy, healthy and blessed👌.
Awesome video! Singapore is on my bucket list to visit. I have always heard it is a super clean city.
it is one of the most exprnsive country in the world, clean and safest
@@KepoinYukz there’s always cheaper varieties for food at hawker center.
Guess it’s expensive for foreigners, or expat for housing rental. But our local housing is nv an issue despite the raising in cost. But still manageable. The worst will be the stupid piece of paper COE for car.
@@KepoinYukz It is expensive if you include cars ownership and private housing. There are very affordable food and shopping around Singapore. Majority of Singaporean can afford to own their own house. Europe is actually more expensive if you dine out.
And Super Expensive. Dun expect to come here with cheap South East Asian Pricing. We e most expensive city is South East Asia
Forrest is such full of joy!
love the interaction among the family members
What a beautiful family❤ & I like to pay attention to the 3 kids’ opinions so priceless 👍
😊 thank you!
awww my first video from your channel. Such a lovely family and you guys have such a positive vibe all around. Very well behaved kids! Enjoy your time in Singapore its definitely the switzerland of Asia as they say (except the Humidity ofc haha). Hope you have a great time!
Kelly is a great mother, she will recover quickly
What a lovely family! ❤
Awesome video! Thanks for showing around different parts of Singapore!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey nice video and I subbed! There is definitely a kayaking scene here. Along the rivers/reservoirs or mangroves, sea, round island, each having its own appeal. Sea wise there are these floating housing structures called kelong and u can visit people living in them or dine on restaurants during kayaking break.
Ceedit card can be used to pay for our mrt n bus rides. The cost is less than sgd 2 per person. Or u can get on n drop coins or cash intp the box at the front in front kf the bus captain. At every bus stop, there are bus routes that lists each destination the bus stops at. But credit card is tap when u get on n get off. Credit card is used per person, for kids, you can use cash
Thanks for the information!
The KIDS ARE SO ADORABLE specially FOREST so CUTE🥰
Haha definitely a great video. 😂 amazing to see the kids push through walking such long distances!
The family including the 3 kids had trekked the Himalayas before. You can search their past videos.
@@saifuddinamin9730 oh my! Amazing family
i'm from singapore & i'm glad you enjoy our country!
I love these videos 🤩!!! Beautiful!!! What a beautiful family. I loved Jonathan's interaction with his daughter Cedar. Beautiful father - daughter combo 🤩!!! Want to see more Jonathan - Cedar videos together!!! Cedar obviously loves and wants her dad's attention. Forrest obviously gets all the attention because he's the youngest (happens in all families throughout all families often throughout the world) though 🤩🤣
Little (and even grown up) girls love their fathers 🤩🤩 I always see Cedar wants Jonathan's attention subtly and Kelly is a great wife and mother. And Jonathan - you're a great father and husband.
Finally aired too 😍 Forest is very memorable, because he's really funny.. heheheh🤣
you guys are marvellous! have a good time and enjoy......
Welcome to Singapore and thank you for sharing your wonderful time here.
Wonderful place . I loved it
My favourite foods here:
1.Sup Tulang Merah with bread(beach road is a good place)there's other places just need to Google it up.*(Straw will come in handy)
2.Cheng Tng(dessert)Can get it warm or cold.
Nice to see u guys enjoying Singapore.Welcome!

You guys are doing amazing 🤩
Love how you always ask for your kids' opinion and allow them to share their thoughts! ◡̈
23:43 yes!!! this is a MUST HAVE. the ice cream from specially this kind of ice cream cart is a huge part of my childhood. the array of flavours is amazing. till this day i still buy the ice cream whenever i see the uncle and his ice cream cart ❤ it’s the best. glad you guys tried it!!!
We totally agree! Uncle was a very nice man and we really enjoyed the sweet treat!
You can kayak at the Kallang River. There are plenty of places you can do water activities. Check out places like Pasir Ris, Changi , Sembawang, Bedok Reservoir (plus high elements ) and more.
Thank you for the suggestion!
@@BagsPackedFamily~ water parks > there’s Wild Wild Wet at Pasir Ris…
@@BagsPackedFamily You can rent kayaks at the Water Sports Centre located near Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang (Stadium MRT).
We used to have those ice cream vendors ride around neighborhoods and you can hear them ringing the bells as they pass your block. Then its the frantic scramble to get down for some ice-cream
When you were crossing the Cavenagh Bridge, you pointed out to the skyscrapers in the distance saying none of that would have been there in 1859. That area wouldn't be rice fields, they would be the sea. You'll be fascinated to know that the whole Marina Bay area is all reclaimed land. The original coastline is where the Fullerton Hotel and Elgin Bridge (first bridge you came across) is.
Here is the real story behind the reclamation of the whole Marina Bay area.
In the 70s, Singapore's biggest challenges were:
1. The small land space to accommodate a growing city of a 3 million people (back then)
2. The frequent flooding at parts of the island due to tropical storms
3. The lack of water sources for a tiny island without glaciers, lakes, springs
4. The biggest problem was the frequent threats from Malaysia to cut off our water supply because we had to import most of our raw water from them. So we were forced to think out-of-the-box to become self-sufficient in terms of water.
Imagine a relatively straight coastline in its original form. Singapore decided to create an artificial reservoir by reclaiming land in the shape of 2 arms reaching out to sea, to be joined by a dam. What used to be part of the sea is now a fully enclosed reservoir. Whenever it rains in Singapore, every drop that falls on the island (on roads, buildings, parks) is preciously channelled through its system of open and underground drains into the rivers and reservoirs. In other words, as long as there's rain, there will be water in the reservoirs. Over time, the seawater reservoir at Marina Bay gets transforms into a freshwater lake because it keeps getting fed by rain. It's just like pouring rain into a cup of brine, it pretty much desalinates itself and becomes pure rain water eventually.
The construction of the dam was intended to help us prevent floods on the island. We can't stop tropical storms from pouring large volumes of rain all over the city in a very short time, but we can quickly channel the water into the reservoirs through the system of drains and rivers as long as the water level of reservoir is low. And because the water pumps at the dam (Marina Barrage) work hard to pump water out to the sea, the reservoir will never overflow and so the city will never flood.
That is the real story behind the Marina Bay area. It's a matter of national security because we are preparing ourselves for the day Malaysia stops supplying water to us for good. Otherwise, Singaporeans wouldn't last a month without water.
You have a nice family and your kids are adorable. Welcome to my country.
u guys r amazing. ur kids are awesome n so well behave. I wish u all the best. stay safe always. love from Singapore
Great family! Enjoy all yr videos!

Awesome video as always, never doubt your videos cuz they are all good content and really informative. Just amazing but I don't know why I always love to watch all your Pakistan videos especially on thr way up fairy meadows and your hiking trip in Nepal. Simply brilliant that's all I can describe your family. Send my love to Forest always. So how long you'd be in Singapore? Since Singapore is literally small and you can sum it all up in small amount of time so how long will you be there in Singapore?
Hey Jam Rock. Thank you so much for your kind words and continued support! I'm writing this an airport lounge in Sri Lanka as we work our way back to India and hopefully Pakistan. Lets chat via IG. We want to ask you about Malaysia. :-)

welcome to Singapore! You can use your credit card to take public transport too. Take note that there is administrative charges of S$0.50 per posting. And tap your card when boarding and alighting. It will be easier for you to get the pre-paid card at the train station for the kids as each card can only be used to pay for one passenger
Thank you so much for the help!
There's 50 cents admin charges? I don't see that🤔
@@simplyme3306 you can verify on simplygo website or LTA website. Just checked, they hav increased it slightly to 60cents per day for foreign bank cards
