    I'm 75 years old and I love watching young people discover and react to music from "back in the day." I like their reactions better than the actual music - sorta - because I will watch maybe 50 different reactors do the SAME song. The song itself, stays the same, but the reactions are all different, and that's what is interesting to me. I'm a million miles away from the crowd I grew up with and most of them have already passed away, so I never experience the sharing of music with my friends as I did when I was young, so this gives me an opportunity to replay enjoyable parts of my early life.

    The first reactors were referring to ROLL BOUNCE, a fun 2005 movie about some black kids in the 70s who participate in a roller boogie contest so the song was a standard in roller rinks and other films with discotheques. The movie is super charming and worth checking out.

    Andy was never a Bee Gee . Bee Gees were Barry, Robin and Maurice (pronounced Mortis the fraternal twins). Andy was so young when they became famous, he started his solo career at 18. He was finally going to join them in 1988 but passed away that year. He was yo be part of their album One, they dedicated that album to him. They were surprised that the person who sang that song was the Bee Gees since had been in s lot of movies. They had never heard song in its entirety. Love that you reacted to it. ❤

    Barry is the oldest, Maurice and Robin were twins and 3 years younger. Andy was the baby of the family and was 12 years younger than Barry. The oldest 3 started in 1958, the year Andy was born. Andy wanted to be a solo artist. Andy died in 1988 5 days after his thirtieth birthday from a heart attack brought on by cocaine abuse. Maurice died in 2003 from a twisted bowel , he died of a heart attack on the operating table. Robin died in 2012 from cancer. Barry is the only one living.

    There was Barry, Robin, Maurice & Andy. Andy never joined the group because he was much younger when their careers took off. As he got older he went on his own & his brothers would include him in live performances. Unfortunately he succumbed to drugs & died from complications from them. Robin & Maurice (twins by the way), one died from stomach problems, twisted stomach & bowels, the other died from cancer. Sad to say Barry is the oldest & also the only one still alive. Also, you missed a great reaction, can’t remember the name because his clip has been used many times on reactions of being black. He talks to video saying he knows black music & they are black. He says he can’t understand cover white men with guitars are on front cover, they must be back up. Puts his head phones on starts listening, then when he sees them, well it’s just priceless. He takes headphones off, runs away, then comes back, & he’s in just complete disbelief. Like I said, priceless.

    I think younger black reactors' perception of the Bee Gees are shaped by the fact that a) this song is used in a whole bunch of "black" movies, and b) their disco-era tracks had a lot of crossover appeal so the reactors probably heard their parents or grandparents listening to them. I think that shaped their idea the vocals sounded "black" more than there being anything particularly "black" about the vocals. I've known since I was a young kid they were white so the vocals always sounded "white" to me.

    You and I are in the same age group, obviously, so, it’s heart warmingly amusing to see black people(mostly youngsters) react to The Bee Gees, thinking they were black, only to discover that they had been listening to a trio of British guys from Manchester. However, it still warms my heart to see young people in general discover the music that we grew up listening to.

    Je suis heureux d'avoir prit en pleine figure la musique des années 70-80-90. Quand je vois la palette de couleur musicale uniquement dans le disco et que je vois la musique de nos jours je dois dire que je m'ennuie, cette musique actuel ne me donne pas envie de m'amuser. De plus ce morceau précis est un hymne à la survie. C'était aussi une musique qui a fait avancé certaines idées sociale qui sont des évidences aujourd'hui.

    Funny thing, I've heard of them, heard that song, never directly though, and yet as soon as I hear the name Bee Gees that song plays in my head.

    I think it would be more common to be surprised to find out the Bee Gees were men. :-P

    Andy died in the 70's of an OD at the height of his solo career.

      @CynsCorner  2 роки тому

      It wasn't specifically an OD. It was due to heart damage caused by his previous drug abuse. He was gone far too soon for sure.

    Also disco was a pure Black queer thing, so makes sense for outsiders to the Bee Gees and insiders to Black culture be surprised.

    • @CynsCorner
      @CynsCorner  Рік тому

      Interesting. Did not realize that disco was a pure black queer thing. I thought it was just a product of the 70s in general because of things like the 'hippie' movement.

    To be honest it much better to hear original reactions than hearing someone reacting to others reacting. I guess some may like this kind of channel but not for me.

      Andy didn't commit suicide. He passed away because of abuse his body had sustained over the years he had been on drugs. 😢
