Going on a little over 2 months with mine. Love the phone, just have minor complaints. The auto-brightness can be finicky and dims way too low at times. General Android weirdness at times with random apps crashing at times, but I've experienced that with every single Android phone I've ever owned. Otherwise, it's been amazing!
same prob but beside that i love my oppo. wish some stuff were better like the side panel and minor app bug
Could you tell me honestly, is watching a youtube video in fullscreen while the phone is folded out any better than watching it on a standard smartphone? It would be the main reason why I want to get a foldable device to watch stuff in bed, but I'm concerned that the video won't actually be that much bigger because of the resolution. What do you think?
@@usagin0te is the same but better than the z fold for sure
@@usagin0te it isn't that much bigger than watching a large phone horizontally, however, you get a folding phone for the multi-tasking. That's the game changer. The OPO has by far the best multi-tasking I've ever experienced on a portable device.
No. Videos don't play in full screen. They're slightly bigger than your normal phone with massive black borders above and below the video @@usagin0te
Finally someone has spoken about the top-bottom split and how it doesn't work most of the time in a regular 50/50 split, how can we let OnePlus know (if you can Shane, please do!) about this as this is a huge problem, never had the problem on my previous Fold 3! Other than that it's such an incredible phone in every other way.
love my oppo too ! one of the reason going for the oppo was for the outter screen size, open canvas and the cameras ! beside that little bug here and there. still got room to improve with software updates. plus a met a seller at oppo and tood him about some issue so i hope they roll out the fixes
I am glad to see this device has held up. I know my Surface Duo 1 isn't gonna last forever and i imagine that if i really love the form factor enough, I will eventually want a foldable in my life.
This really comes close to that sweet spot, though i would miss the Duo form factor like crazy. Thanks for the coverage Shane!
Great video, thanks! I think I'll go for it!
Just got mine today, switched back from iOS, really liking the form factor and the return to Android. Speakers are amazing.
Hi how is your experience so far shifting from ios??
Glad I found a real reviewer, not those big channels who only fear of missing out. Thanks!
Great review Shane.
Question from a pixel fold user - do you think it's worth it to trade the pixel fold in with the trade-in program for the One Plus Open at this point? (dated 5/14/24)
or just hold off for an updated Pixel Fold or even a OnePlus Open?
Not consider the Galaxy fold since I hate that outer screen ratio (unless they decide to finally go with a conventional measurement).
Appreciate the longer videos
Awesome review , I agree the One Plus Open is the best foldable on planet Earth right now. The open canvas multitasking is unbeatable by any of the other manufacturers.
The two things I don't like are things like sometimes apps such as gmail freeze while you are on a call or after the call is over. The other issue is with cameras because I switched from Note 20 Ultra, and that had a laser sensor 100mpx Camera, which worked really well for group selfies and also for captures while an object or person is in motion.
I'm glad to come across this video. The overall positive review for the open is great to see. I had reservations about it since launch I should be receiving my open tomorrow and. It's my first foldable so I'm excited to use it.
Thanks for this 6 months update.
I was looking forward to the Galaxy Fold 6 but with some of the leaks it looks like the outer screen wouldn't be as wide as the Oneplus Open, which is really unfortunate.
So I guess all eyes is now on the next Oneplus Open. I hope they polish the software further, I have given up on Samsung.
I recently found your channel, and i just want to tell you how much i appreciate how you present yourself and the information.
Im a Z Fold 3 user, but have decided that i want a change, and i stumbled upon more details of the OPO. Well i just placed my order and im THRILLED!!
I would like if, when you close the screen from the open position, besides for the swipe up action, you should be able to tap the fingerprint sensor to make the screen go on
I just got my OnePlus open last Thursday and I love it. It is the perfect in-between between the fold 5 and pixel fold. Only thing I wish it had was wireless charging but it hardly matters with 67w wired charging. Definitely my favorite foldable so far.
Great video, as always.
Do you know if i can change the design of thr notifications? The icons are greyscale on mine, and very small.... Also the badge numbers dont work on my apps, even when i get a lot of messages...thanks!
Any way where we can seperately set wallpaper from wallpaper App without downloadinf wallpaper.
As direcrly serting from wallpa0er app changes both inner and outer screen..
Thank you for making this video. I wanted to see how it works.
The way you're making videos on this device is amazing I mean I don't even own the device but I completely watched the full video can you please make similar video on the one plus 12 it'll be awesome ❤
Still loving mine. I don't miss my pixel fold one bit.
Great video ! Just subscribed so far !💦💧💦💧 Keep Up The Great Work !
Looking at getting the phone now, super helpful information, well done with no bias. Love the dogs! Keep it up!! Is there a 6month review of the Fold?
Yep! ua-cam.com/video/_aQeeLwkWPs/v-deo.html
Can it play two video sources at the same time? Like UA-cam and website video like watch NFL games?
I love that you also use Verticons. I feel so much less weird now.
Did you install the unfolded app by any chance ? My unfolded count till date stands at 1600 😅
Shane. Bought a new OPO from eBay about three to four weeks ago and finally decided to set it up. Mainly because of your videos. Coming from a ZFold5 and this thing rocks. And I can use the outer display!
I have noticed OnePlus is missing the n77 and n260 bands in the US and i wanted to ask if there is a way to enable them like in other OnePlus phones what you can make guide, would be great. That way we get better signal.
Spigen finally came out with a case for this phone! 👍🏼
Can you please put the link?
Finally the big guns..
Thanks for the review, since watching it, I've bought one. It's brilliant, 1st foldable I've purchased and so refreshing to have a phone/tablet device in one. I have a question, my always on display doesn't seem to stay.. always on! Anyone else have this? Thanks
I absolutely love my open. I have taken some incredible shots with these cameras. This phone is a beast.
This was a great 6 month breakdown. I hope OnePlus sees this and addresses some of these software things.
If I change an icon's design, will it change the look of the icon everywhere on the phone?
Awesome review Shane! I was wondering if you can link the wallpaper?
IIRC, it was in Backdrops
@@scaryifliteral perfect!
I am considering buying an OP Open, do I wait for the Galaxy Fold 6 or do I buy it?, what is your recommendation?
Idk bout most ppl but preservation of your product is key. Utilize the phone covers that it came with. And get a tempered glass screen protector for the camera. My Open looks like it brand new since i got it last Nov.
The only complaint, if you can call it that, is oneplus needs to 'delight' us with software updates, innovative features etc to keep the phone feeling new.
Pretty sure they will. Once bug's are sorted out it will definitely be a great phone. Looking to get the black leather one soon.
Does it receive monthly security patches?
@@markcaiger-watson1104 yes
@@markcaiger-watson1104 I'm not an open user but it depends on region. India and China are allways first. Then the rest of the world. My OP12 is still on march and what I found out is they will com bi or 3-monthly.
And cases from reputable brands.
Thanks Shane, Like you said everyone has moved on from the OnePlus Open. Another interesting video. 😁
Man I'm glad you did this. I've been looking at getting this phone forever but wanted to see how it's been holding up.
I can vouch for the open as well. I had a case on it but that case was actually damaging the aesthetics of the hinge. Took the case off and it absolutely holds its own. I feel like I could throw it around with the inner screen open and it would not damage the device (haven't done it but the hardware is just that solid).
@Ronnet thanks, looking at upgrading from an s21 ultra. Only other thing I'm thinking about is the fact that I have the galaxy buds pro 2 and galaxy watch 6. They say everything will work the same with the oneplus tho.
@jojodudeman4291 yes they will
DEFINITELY GOOD VID REALLY NEEDED... I definitely agree one plus has a very very very solid hardware which I had in hand and wood of kept. Software Polish and software refinement Oneplus really have a "mabe it will happen" mentality when it comes to a $1700 phone after 6 months which other companies have given people which makes the value acceptable.
So according to your former videos regarding Pixel Fold 2, does that form factor sit well with you?
It´s very similar to the Open, which looks fantastic!
Great video,/TIA
Not a fan of the move to OP Open form factor. I prefer Pixel Fold as it is.
hi, have been using this phone from Nov 2023, jus wanted to ask whether you have replaced the inner screen protector, if yes , which one as we had checked with One plus store and they dont have it here (India-Chennai).
I've not removed or replaced the inner screen protector.
How's everybody battery if you are on all day
The open just needs more i think 1 maybe 2 revisions of this style and itll be the phone i never get rid of until they update it. Also i hopw this come to the uk as well cause as far as i know it isnt here unless you bring it over etc
The app minimize animation issue - the UI is designed to minimize the app window into the app icon, if the icon is missing from the home screen then a default animation is given where the app window will just fade away into the centre of the screen. I face this issue a lot cause i use KWGT widgets and map applications to it. Since the original app icon is missing I dnt get the app minimize effect, cause there is no app icon on the home screen.
I dnt think it can be solved for third party widgets, but surely native widgets can be supported.
Loving my Open. I'm just worried about the long-term durability. Hopefully it can last as long as my 7 pro. 5 years, fingers crossed 🤞.
My phone, I’ve had since launch. Around November, and last week I opened the phone and the inside screen had a huge black spot across it and white lines :(.
Sent it into OnePlus and hoping they will replace the screen.
@@jaykfrisby8163 This is the Reason why I won't buy any foldable till they provide at least a 2 year warranty for screen replacement. But keep in mind: Screen is not made by OnePlus or Oppo. It's most likely a Samsung one and the flexible Glas is from one and only German company that produces it
Did you maybe try another launcher, like Nova? To fix your homescreen problem?
I need a new phone and every other company isn't designing smartphone for me, but at the same time oneplus isn't anymore what it use to be.
Should I wait with my still working oneplus 6 for open 2?
I'm getting this phone soon, and planned on using Nova Launcher, which I've done with every phone I've gotten since discovering it. I'm hoping it allows for the customizing I'm hoping to use.
Very accurate review. Love that you spent real time with the phone than other reviewers that may dabble with any phone for 2-3 weeks.
My key gripes.
1. I do wish the power, volume buttons, & slide were all one button notch lower. Similar location to the Galaxy Fold series.
2. As everyone agrees, wireless charging.
3. Polished software.
As you said in the review, all the other good points certainly makes up for the bad points.
You failed to mention the IR blaster. It's been so long since I had a phone with this. I suffered for a while losing this feature and now I'll have to suffer again when I move past the Open.
Remember the days of transferring data via IR?
FYI. I almost complained that it hasn't been 6 months since it's release (Oct 26), however I realized that tech reviewers had their hands on it way before release / embargo dates.
I concede to the title of 6 months. LOL.
"in the 6th month" lol
Interesting im on my 1st fold device fold 4. I would like larger cover display and ultra camera
One glitch on mine: It does not work on my Jeep Grand Cherokee uConnect Android Auto. It tries to connect but then it crashes.
I just had issue in internal screen of my oneplus open. Top quarter becoming completely white and black bar around all 4 sides of screen. The phone was in case from 1st day. I have not drop it or exposed it to any abnormal condition.
I used only for 3 months so far. I know folding phones has problem with internal screen and was mentally prepared to accept after 1 year at least but not after 3 month only. I have sent email for OnePlus support and waiting for feedback.
OnePlus is currently giving $1150 for the Fold5 and the Fold6 leaks appear to be not much of an upgrade would you recommend the OnePlus Open? With trade in and Rakuten you can get the OnePlus Open for under $400. 🤔
could you provide us the link to the icon pack that you’re using please? They look very awesome!
Verticons
You said pre-applied screen protector on the internal fold screen? Did it come that way out of the box or did you install it yourself?
If you bought it, which screen protector do you recommend?
Screen protectors are preinstalled on the inner screen of all foldable devices.
@@scaryifliteral Oh wow! Like a removable one?
I can't believe this video is free. Wow. Great review.
Hi Shane, what advice could you give me when buying a foldable smartphone? I'm thinking of buying the Samsung Fold 6 in August.
Right now, my general recommendation is the OnePlus Open. That being said, if you can wait until Samsung unveils the Z Fold, there might be some interesting stuff there.
@@scaryifliteral Thanks a lot
I rock mine with no case and have dropped mine on tile and just last week on concrete and it still lives, no crack screen or glass next time I'm getting the leather version for more grip lol
Be careful. You don’t want the inside screen to mess up from falling lol
I am still dealing with the delayed notification from gmail and other apps. Also, notifications only popping up when I unlock the phone. It is a deal breaker, but I am hoping that there is a fix. I've looked at a plethora of forums and done all the suggested things but no luck.
My OnePlus Open lasted a full 4 days working as it should. On the fourth day I decided to remove the protective case which I had installed after the unboxing. As I tried to separate the case, I noticed that the inside left panel turned greenish. After doing everything in an effort to recover the phone, I had no option but to return it to BB. Beware when manipulating the case.
Have you checked to see ifyou have those issues with other Android phones with the icon pack? It could be a issue with the icon pack
It happens with every icon pack. It's the phone, not the icons.
What's that folder/group option you're uding with multiple apps in it? Is it an app you can use?
That's just a built-in feature. Make a folder just like you normally would on any other Android phone, long press that folder and expand it.
@@scaryifliteral ah. Ok. I think the reason mine looks different is because I switched from my Surface Duo 2 and in the transfer I also set up this Oneplus fold to use Microsoft Launcher 😅
This will be the 3rd month I'll have owned my own Open and it's still pretty much pristine
I sold mine and went back to my galaxy Z fold five. The camera module on the back of the one plus open was just entirely too big.
To be fair, the sensors are all larger and more advanced too.
I have dropped my phone 6ft high on concrete 3x with minor scratches it built like a tank and i don't even use a case. I only have a few scratches on the outer rim of front glass. I have had some WI-fI and signal issues also android auto not working but it now always and other than that its perfect. I do wish the camera was faster though.
I got mine about a month after you and I'm absolutely loving it. My open is very much like yours pretty much unscathed. I've dropped it twice but I have a bumper case so no damage to the screen. Apart from wireless charging and maybe a software overhaul I can't really see where they can improve on this later this year with the open 2. Great vid keep them coming
Still waiting for the drag and drop features. It was awesome with my pixel 7 pro it's very useful and functional. How can I update mine though am using Android 14
What drag and drop features are you missing?
Damn, I am atm deep in the apple eco system, told myself to hold of from purchasing the 24SU, the foldable options are nice, but not jumping the gun. Oneplus is awesome, but i want to try to keep a phone for 4 years minimum, more if any. (hence why i'm still on 12 PM), Reason why i did not go for the 24SU (Dex is something i find intresting) is that snapdragon 8 gen 4 should be special, while apple is now diving into AI and A18 is also having major leaks as in preformance i am not so sure anymore of going to android : ] exciting times! sometimes i want freedom (hence looking to android) sometimes i love the easy of everything just working.. that has gone alittle stale tho with apple feels all the same
What is your icon pack you use?
Verticons
I noticed you don't have your sim card in your OnePlus Open, what is your main device right now? I had a hard time seeing but I think your Pixel Fold has a sim. What keeps pulling you to the Pixel Fold?
I go back and forth between the pixel fold and the oneplus open every couple of days. It just so happened that the stuff was filmed on a pixel fold day lol.
While I LOVE my Oneplus Open, when I stop getting the bi monthly security updates in 4,5 years, I hope Google will have started to release their foldable in Sweden too or at least a way to buy it in Sweden, because 1+ hasn't been that great with updates. Not horrible, but still, I'd like faster OS updates and not have to wait several months to test the new functions.
Also I truly hope the battery won't be too bad in a few years, since that's the biggest reason for me getting a new phone. If I can't take two hour walk with Pikmin Bloom and music without worrying it dying, despite it being completely charged when I go out, then it's time to get a new one.
I believe that the instant love that the OnePlus open received had a tremendous effect on Google. Because when the OnePlus open started to get all of the attention, people stopped talking about the pixel fold. If there were any comparisons made with folding devices, it was between the z fold and the open.
Yeah, it's no wonder why the next Pixel Fold will copy the dimensions of the OPO. I do think the Pixel Folds dimensions are superior. But the OPO took full attention away from the Pixel, even in the camera department. I think at that point google realized they need to focus on the design that conforms to what will be the standard (assuming that at the release of the OPO, google was still considering multiple design options).
Anyone feel battery life is not as good on A14? Also charging speeds seem to be slower even with OEM charger
I sold mines last night 😢 no issues just wasn’t satisfied with the support or software updates.. I had the op11 prior.
I have same connection issues with wifi 6E too!
I've seriously considered the Open, however the things that stops me are; the massive camera hump, the lack of a strong IP rating and no wireless charge.
I found some sort of software issue with using gboard on the cover display on the edges. Couldn't stand it.
I've been using Gboard the entire time, haven't noticed anything. Anything else you can say for details?
@@scaryifliteral I've seen a few others on Reddit also mention the same problem. There seems to be some sort of palm rejection happening when you are typing the outer letters (mostly 'p' and 'q') and there is the slightest delay. It's really annoying when you type fast. I actually found it easier to type on a fold 5 cover display then the Open.
Awesome as always
Thanks dude!
You dropped this video at the perfect time. I was just wondering how this phone held up in 2024
Spigen finally dropped case for the Open! $40 pretty damn pricey
I still cant get over the dinner plate as a camera bump lol
for the screen protector, i got replacement for life when i got mine ! compare to samsung
I was thinking about getting one and selling my z fold 5
Can we buy a stylus for this phone yet?
The Oppo Pin works, but good luck finding it.
@@scaryifliteral lol that's exactly what the issue is. Even in China itself it's very hard to get. Apparently rubber tip stylised work..
@@scaryifliteral pin or pen
I have mine for a month now. Came from a Z Fold4. The software is definitely not polished compared to Samsung. The close all apps button not working properly is absurd, because it's such a basic function. As my 1st OnePlus device, I don't think I would recommend OnePlus to other people when the software is this unpolished when it's new, it's concerning how the software support will be when the phone is a few years old.
The only thing stopping me from getting it is the massive camera at the back.
If the z fold 6 is similar to the one plus I'll be happy.
The annoying part is decades long technology of yesteryears. We weren't annoyed back then 😉
Need to allow double tap power to launch camera, no idea why they don't allow that. So easy to launch on other android devices
It's there in some regions
@@scaryifliteral thanks for your reviews btw. I greatly appreciate them
My cover screen is getting scratched all around. I'm not using any protector or a case. In comparison, I've owned OP7 Pro for 5 years and the screen never scratched compared to the same usage.
It comes with a plastic screen protector on outer screen. Did you remove that?
@@FoxyDrew yes I always remove it when buying new phone.
@SerarEstaifan well there you go
Watching on OP Open and I probably won't upgrade until the OP Open 3
Had a glass protector on my camera as well, and I have to say it really messes with the image quality of your pictures.
I've since removed it for that reason
Queens of the Stone Age!
No wireless charging is enough for me not to get it.I got a xaiomi mix fold 3 for half the price with just as good hardware
Did you use your device continuously for 6 months? If not, then I'm sorry, I don't think we can talk about hardware wear and tear.
It has been used every day since I got it. As I've said on this channel about a hundred times at this point, my sim has bounced back and forth between it and the Pixel Fold a lot. Sometimes every other day lol. Even the days my sim isn't in it, I'm still picking it up and using it for something every day.
@@scaryifliteral Cool.. Thanks!
I guess at the time he filmed it was $1499. It's $1699 everywhere now.
Absolutely love the phone. Only two things: fix the camera bump and add wireless charging
Love the OnePlus open. Nothing like the trash pixel fold. Returned that device 2 hours into ownership 😂
I prefer the Pixel Fold.. lol
@@scaryifliteral I do like the front over display. I'd use that as a slab phone. The inner/main displays couldn't use it. Why I ultimately sent it back lol
Why dont samsung z fold 6 video ???
I've made like 732 Z Fold 6 videos
@@scaryifliteral
bro there are new leaks from the front display, for example with a 22:9 display ratio. you do so intensively then make nice videos and compare the colors sizes. that we have an idea of what it is like. Where I saw this, I expected a video from you.
Weird lines on the screen when you were outside. Besides that, OnePlus Open looks amazing.
Your eye doesn't see that. It's an issue with filming some screens outside.
