The Dextron VI/Mercon LV shouldn't be detrimental, but if I'm not mistaken, meets higher specs. New Process made the transfer case, so GM specific fluid shouldn't be a concern.
As a rule of thumb in my shop if it came with DEX II we will only use DEX VI. Though you are right that the new ATF fluids are more interchangeable then the old days its still something we don't chance. /K&K

@@KNKRNR Valvoline makes a "Dextron VI/Mercon LV" If it meets Dextron VI specs, it is still backward compatible with Dextron III, and it will work.
