Walking back all the way from the castle to the ruins, getting 10g from the ferry, getting carried across the disproportionately small gap, listening what all the monsters have to say, smiling at Toriels texts, and revisiting all these places, and everyone is just so happy... Then, talking to Asriel at the very first room in the game, again, how everyone was so happy... It made me decide to never reset the game ever again... This song reminds me of that, and everytime I open my computer and see that red heart, I want to click it and play, but then I remember, and listen to this song. It's my favorite song from the OST, and listening to it makes me shake just like I did throughout my entire playthrough, I don't know, I just shake every time I hear this song. This is art, Toby. You officially made me emotionately attached to a game and a song. :')
Honestly I felt bad for attempting a genocide run. But sans was the one thing I could never get past. So in my timeline...Sans was successful in stopping me from reaching the point of no return. Now I don't think I can ever go back to that. It hurts too much to see all of the characters I grew to love die (especially papyrus. Love that guy.) Edit:I tried twice and sans foiled me both times.

This song really tells you that its time to say goodbye. The game does give mercy that you can talk to all of your friends before leaving, but hear me out. The song captures the feeling of departure. You cant play this game for all eternity. Thats why Flowey shows up after you try to boot up the game after the True Pacifist Run. He doesn't want you back. They dont want you back. You already made them happy. Dont make them suffer from a Genocide Run or Neutral Run. And seeing a merciless beast as Flowey say those words, you wouldn't say no, would you? No, you would not. This is the best Indie game I have ever played. Goddamnit Toby, you're a genius.
Literally what stopped me. I had planned to do a Genocide run right after. But when he stopped me, I reflected back on just how all this made you FEEL. The characters may not be real, living breathing beings... but the emotions and thought put into this very much are. That's enough for me.

This is the kind of reason I play this game! If you took one thing out of the game, it wouldn't be the same. If you took out Toriel, you'd probably choose Genocide. If you didn't have the music, it would just be mindless playing. If we didn't have Papyrus- I don't know. He's just awesome.
As someone who is stuck at Undyne the Undying, even though I've already done a True Pacidist route, I feel like a total piece of shit reading this comment, because, I want to do the genocide route because I've done atleast 12 resets, to the point where Flowey isn't even showing up anymore, and as much as I try to do pacifist again just to make myself feel better, I always end up with genocide, and I also want to do genocide because of Sans and Undyne the Undying and also Chara. But I want to do a True Pacifist route again because of this song, and the feeling of a satisfying and merciful ending, and Asriel, and everyone else, so, yeah. The universe hates me.
I'll admit, I shed manly tears. While they said that everyone would follow, I felt like this was a final goodbye. Goatmom finally came back to save me. I endured Asriel, and let him perform a final act of kindness. Sans with his puns and his best friend shtick, PApyrus with his hilarious incompetence, Undyne with her infinite determination to stick up for those she cares about, Alphys with her knowledge of machines, Asgore with his selflessness, and most importantly, Toriel. The one that cared for you, and made sure you were happy by any means. The perfect mother. I sobbed a little bit, but when the option "I want to stay with you" came up at the end, I did NOT hesitate to select it. The true pacifist ending. Pure perfection, in my eyes. Soon, Asriel, we'll rip you from that genocidal weed, and give you your own life. In the meantime, I'll take care of your parents. Nay. OUR parents.

But at the end I did it and befriending Asriel only made me all the more happy cause the one monster I hated the most throughout the game I.e. flowey turned out to be that one character who had the most painful backstory in the entire game followed by his own dad's which was heart wrenching too Over all it was not a great journey.. This can make me cry anytime I listen to it. I remember all the cool characters I met, the challenges I faced and the bonds I created. Undertale will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks a lot Toby, you turned me into a softy
I know why most people find the ending of Undertale bittersweet, and it is a good reason, but my reason is different. After all the work you put in, you did it. You finally save them. You can do it over and over. But no matter what, they can't really come up to the surface and live with US, the players. Even if Flowey seems self aware, he's not, and never will be. They just say what they're programmed to say. The characters we tried so hard to save, from meeting Toriel to saving Asriel, are just lines of code. No matter how much we love them, they can't come to life. The personality we see... It's all a lie. But when playing the game... I feel like it isn't. When I'm playing the game, I'm fighting for them. I know they aren't real, but I love them as if they were family. When you beat the game, you know what a reset will do to them.
(This comment is literally 2 years old... but eh) I think it's more about the impact the game has on you. For me, Undertale really made me a happier person, helped me to love and forgive others better, and to keep persevering. It helped me realize I've always got people who love me and will support me, even if it's taking video game characters to help me realize that, lmao. Sort of like how people have been changed by Harry Potter or The Avengers. The story and characters may be fictional, but the lesson learned, and the impact it makes on your life, are very real.

Yknow, probably the worst part about Asriel staying behind is that he COULD have had a happy ending. Flower or no, he's still Toriel and Asgore's son, and as Boss Monsters their soul power would have slowly transferred to him. Eventually he'd be back to his old self and able to live a proper life, and Toriel and Asgore would be able to grow old knowing their child was alive. But nope. Mr. "Everything Is My Fault" won't listen to us. :/

My personal headcanon is that this is Frisk's theme. (Since whether or not they have one is otherwise unspecified.) It really captures the gentleness and kindness that the character portrays in a Pacifist Route, and it only plays after you learn their name - after which, it plays during the entire playable epilogue, essentially following you as you journey through the Underground again. Among other things, I think getting to hear Frisk's theme is one of the "rewards" for choosing the Pacifist Ending, and sticking to it for this long.
@@gimmekromer1151 This is actually one of the arguments in favor of Frisk being the aggressor and his theme being Megalovania. When you run into monsters encounters (they attacking you), you always get the first turn. But in this case Sans gets the first attack, meaning that is Frisk the one who is the aggressor.
+DW DLC? Toby could put in an optional boss battle where during the epilogue you can challenge Chara for Asriel's freedom. Poor goat-boy needs a happy ending too :'(
Oh, Undertale. I've never loved fictional characters *this* much. No, goatmom. I want to stay with you. I want to stay with my friends. Even with the characters that weren't my favorite, they still had something SO memorable about them. Dammit, this song always make me tear up.
idk why, but this right here is the most emotional ost to me out of the whole game yes, its even more than his theme and all that WARNING BEEP BEEP SPOILERS WEE WOOH WEE WOOH i think its because knowing the fact that youre leaving asriel behind, and that the monsters are finally moving on from their once prison but that isnt the emotional part. no, that barely makes up for half of the feelz its knowing that chara is having to see their best friend get left behind. plus, what even happens to them?? do they finally fade away, after everything has been mended (at least, as much as it can possibly be), are they stuck with ya forever??? idk man, but one things for sure, chara saw some real crap and probably went through some real crap during the pacifist end and its really sad, we never get to see anymore of them, all we got was their story, their *_one_* appearance, and of course, their narration, which is probably the most we ever got from them, and the most in character thing of them (if that makes sense) poor kid man, honestly theyre my favorite character from undertale. not even frisk can beat em i often end up adoring underappreciated characters, especially ones that are shunned a lot by the fandom its really sad that they got demonized so much, i truly believe that they were actually a good kid man, they may have accidentally ended up just starting another war, but they didnt mean to, they just wanted to repay the monsters and their new family for being so kind to them and taking them in like they were one of them
I get a real Chrono Trigger vibe from this song, and it's beautiful. I love how Toby made a lot of these tracks as love letters to great RPGs and other great games; OFF!, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Mother 3, and even Mega Man X.

All the happy and relaxed expressions on their faces. Toriel looks so glad and happy, Sans is finally wearing a true smile, Papyrus looks amazed, Undyne looks relaxed and cheerful, Alphys looks so confident and amazed, Asgore looks accepted and loved. You all watch the sun set and walk off to your new lives. And you had no where else to go. So what better option than to stay with the woman you have already name your mother? As you grow on, as the Ambassador of Monster Kind, you lead the Monsters to a world of peace with the humans. Many people doubted your ability, as you were but a child, but your unwavering determination and charisma plowed through the humans' doubts. You can finally live along side your family in peace. You helped Asgore trim that one Papyrus-shaped bush. You graduated from Toriel's- no, you graduated from Mom's school. You cheer on Sans as he, absurdly as it may seme, overtook Papyrus in his car whilst riding the blue bike. You got to help Undyne gather up the courage to propose to Alphys, you got to see it happen on the beach. You get to live on, in a world where humans and monster got along. ---- One day, you climbed MT. Ebott. You didn't care about the legend anymore; even if you fell, you could still travel through the Underground, revisit your memories, until you got to the other side. But no, that's not why you climbed MT. Ebott that day. You had a feeling... a feeling that something you had been trying to do since you finally escaped the Underground was finally going to happen, if you just got there on time. As you climb. you remember the fear you felt, sprinting up the mountain terrain. You remember... the not-so-happy event that caused you to run away. And you smile at the happiness you found. All because you tripped on a branch, right in front of the hole, whilst wavering between cowardice and living on. You climb the mountain, up until you see the small flower patch. It surrounds the hole, so different from the barren scar it had been several years before. You see them... the two figures sitting at the edge of the hole. They hold hands, the one on the left singing, Her beautiful auburn bowl cut bobbing against Her head as She hummed a tune, the figure on the right listening intently, as though His life depended on it. You see His white fur, pristine as His mother's and father's, bristle in the breeze, as you walk forward. She stopped singing abruptly, swinging Her head so She had half Her face showing. Her look of surprise quickly gave way to a warm smile. He noticed, and turned slowly... and He saw you. He looked so happy!... but it slowly gave away to a look of sadness. "Frisk...", He begins, "what are you doing here? Don't you have anything better to do..?" You shake your head, a huge grin spreading across your face as tears pour down your cheeks. You settle gently onto the flower bed... seems like He really did take care of it, even after all of these years. You speak once more. You tell them something they'll never forget. You tell them something that will not be the last thing you tell them. **You idiots... You absolute IDIOTS!* You scream as you clutch them close to you, as if they would disappear into thin air if you let go **How could I not worry about you?! Aren't you my Best Friends?!?!* They seem to be in shock. Well, for heavens sake, you tackled them into what you knew was a deep fall! You could've died! And yet, you did it. I played the Pacifist run and felt so great to hear this song. I felt so great to have achieved a happy ending where monsters can live above the surface again and Frisk can have a good life. I put the game down after that. Didn't dare want to reset knowing that I would rip them from that timeline. Unfortunately, my sister wanted to play the game herself, so at some point I had to for her sake. I'm thankful though, she's doing the pacifist run and I'm going to be guiding her to make sure she doesn't stray. And, I'm more than a little determined to hear this song again and finally put down Undertale for good. Without any reason to want to reset, or have to reset. Lemme tell you, even if we're striving for the same exact ending, I felt terrible just having to reset for my sister to experience the game herself--and knowing that she will probably get some extra bits from Sans for resetting--because I feel like I've broken a promise to myself. It's almost like, my conscious isn't going to rest easy until we put things back the way they were before I reset the game.

*Spoiler warning* I remember just a few weeks ago, I was playing this game and was at the Asriel boss battle, and my mom, who knows I love this game to death, was watching me play. And when his theme began playing, I started to cry like never before. And I calmed down enough to finish the battle, but the very second this song started, I was sobbing. Because when no one else was there for me, the characters of this game were, and I just felt so happy to see them all together...
I'm not going to lie, this game is truly a work of art. It's one of the few pieces of art that has made me tear up, laugh, and even feel anger towards certain characters. I.....i'm glad this game got the amount of attention it did, because it deserves it. Even as people forgot what the game was about, i'm still glad people saw it and experienced it. This game is a masterpiece and it will go down in gaming as one of the best games of all time.
When I hear this song it makes me remember my last day in my old home. It brings me memories of all the fun times a had with my good friends, the walks around the park, I had a good life there. This song makes me want to go back and "replay the game" and wish I would have enjoyed it better than before. I now have a very good life in my home with new friends and a great school, but my old home will always be in my heart and I shall cherish those moments.
This track lets you know that your journey is near its end. The barrier's destroyed, everyone's families have once again been completed, and everyone seeks hope in what lies ahead in the open world. Not only does it mean something for monsters; it means something for you, too. You were the hero who lifted the kingdom from its ashes, and soon will bring humans and monsters together again.
This is so fitting for an ending/epilogue. I wish my school would play this in the last day of school, after exams. It would be 100x more emotional, especially for the seniors.
Frisk... Be careful in the outside world, OK? Despite what everyone thinks, it's not as nice as it is here. There are a lot of Floweys out there. And not everything can be resolved by just being nice. Don't kill, and don't be killed, alright? That's the best you can strive for.

+cool ufo I'm actually proud to say I found him on my own cause I was so obsessed with the fact that we didn't save him. I tracked back and actually missed most of the post-battle npc dialogue cause I was so sure he'd be at the flower bed at the start. I'll never let that go. I hope they add some dlc or someone finds some hidden way to save him or something. He was by far the character I was most endeared to :/

Walking back all the way from the castle to the ruins, getting 10g from the ferry, getting carried across the disproportionately small gap, listening what all the monsters have to say, smiling at Toriels texts, and revisiting all these places, and everyone is just so happy... Then, talking to Asriel at the very first room in the game, again, how everyone was so happy... It made me decide to never reset the game ever again... This song reminds me of that, and everytime I open my computer and see that red heart, I want to click it and play, but then I remember, and listen to this song. It's my favorite song from the OST, and listening to it makes me shake just like I did throughout my entire playthrough, I don't know, I just shake every time I hear this song. This is art, Toby. Honestly I felt bad for attempting a genocide run. But sans was the one thing I could never get past. So in my timeline...Sans was successful in stopping me from reaching the point of no return. Now I don't think I can ever go back to that. It hurts too much to see all of the characters I grew to love die (especially papyrus. Love that guy.)

This song really tells you that its time to say goodbye. The game does give mercy that you can talk to all of your friends before leaving, but hear me out. The song captures the feeling of departure. You cant play this game for all eternity. Thats why Flowey shows up after you try to boot up the game after the True Pacifist Run. He doesn't want you back. They dont want you back. You already made them happy. Dont make them suffer from a Genocide Run or Neutral Run. And seeing a merciless beast as Flowey say those words, you wouldn't say no, would you? No, you would not. This is the best Indie game I have ever played. Goddamnit Toby, you're a genius.

As someone who is stuck at Undyne the Undying, even though I've already done a True Pacidist route, I feel like a total piece of shit reading this comment, because, I want to do the genocide route because I've done atleast 12 resets, to the point where Flowey isn't even showing up anymore, and as much as I try to do pacifist again just to make myself feel better, I always end up with genocide, and I also want to do genocide because of Sans and Undyne the Undying and also Chara. I'll admit, I shed manly tears. While they said that everyone would follow, I felt like this was a final goodbye. Goatmom finally came back to save me. I endured Asriel, and let him perform a final act of kindness. Sans with his puns and his best friend shtick, PApyrus with his hilarious incompetence, Undyne with her infinite determination to stick up for those she cares about, Alphys with her knowledge of machines, Asgore with his selflessness, and most importantly, Toriel. The one that cared for you, and made sure you were happy by any means. The perfect mother. I sobbed a little bit, but when the option "I want to stay with you" came up at the end, I did NOT hesitate to select it. The true pacifist ending. Pure perfection, in my eyes. Soon, Asriel, we'll rip you from that genocidal weed, and give you your own life. In the meantime, I'll take care of your parents. Nay. OUR parents.

After countless neutral and pacifist runs without being aware that there was a true ending(cause I believed that pacifist run ends once you defeat omega flowey which now I know isn't the real ending)
I finally saw a video on UA-cam about the true ending and thought to myself if it was fanmade😆😆 man what kind of a fool I was....
But at the end I did it and befriending Asriel only made me all the more happy cause the one monster I hated the most throughout the game I.e. flowey turned out to be that one character who had the most painful backstory in the entire game followed by his own dad's which was heart wrenching too
Over all it was not a great journey..
But it was best one I had ever been on in a game( that's part of the reason why I dont like MMOs that much compared to RPGs )
And I know only a very few of you might have read it till this far but if you did then I am really happy to know that at least some of you could understand me( cause I have tried countless times to encourage my friends into playing it but they never showed any interest in it and turns out that I am the only one in my entire class to have played this game so that loneliness really hits me hard😔)

I know why most people find the ending of Undertale bittersweet, and it is a good reason, but my reason is different.
After all the work you put in, you did it. You finally save them. You can do it over and over. But no matter what, they can't really come up to the surface and live with US, the players. Even if Flowey seems self aware, he's not, and never will be. They just say what they're programmed to say.
The characters we tried so hard to save, from meeting Toriel to saving Asriel, are just lines of code. No matter how much we love them, they can't come to life. The personality we see... It's all a lie. But when playing the game... I feel like it isn't.
When I'm playing the game, I'm fighting for them. I know they aren't real, but I love them as if they were family. When you beat the game, you know what a reset will do to them.

I think it's more about the impact the game has on you. For me, Undertale really made me a happier person, helped me to love and forgive others better, and to keep persevering. It helped me realize I've always got people who love me and will support me, even if it's taking video game characters to help me realize that, lmao. Sort of like how people have been changed by Harry Potter or The Avengers. The story and characters may be fictional, but the lesson learned, and the impact it makes on your life, are very real.

Yknow, probably the worst part about Asriel staying behind is that he COULD have had a happy ending. Flower or no, he's still Toriel and Asgore's son, and as Boss Monsters their soul power would have slowly transferred to him. Eventually he'd be back to his old self and able to live a proper life, and Toriel and Asgore would be able to grow old knowing their child was alive.
But nope. Mr. "Everything Is My Fault" won't listen to us. :/

My personal headcanon is that this is Frisk's theme. (Since whether or not they have one is otherwise unspecified.) It really captures the gentleness and kindness that the character portrays in a Pacifist Route, and it only plays after you learn their name - after which, it plays during the entire playable epilogue, essentially following you as you journey through the Underground again. Among other things, I think getting to hear Frisk's theme is one of the "rewards" for choosing the Pacifist Ending, and sticking to it for this long.

When you run into monsters encounters (they attacking you), you always get the first turn. But in this case Sans gets the first attack, meaning that is Frisk the one who is the aggressor.

As you exit the underground, the fresh air filling your lungs. The sun sinking into the atmosphere below, you and your family standing over the mountain, watching as the night takes place.
All the happy and relaxed expressions on their faces. Toriel looks so glad and happy, Sans is finally wearing a true smile, Papyrus looks amazed, Undyne looks relaxed and cheerful, Alphys looks so confident and amazed, Asgore looks accepted and loved.
You all watch the sun set and walk off to your new lives. And you had no where else to go. So what better option than to stay with the woman you have already name your mother? As you grow on, as the Ambassador of Monster Kind, you lead the Monsters to a world of peace with the humans. Many people doubted your ability, as you were but a child, but your unwavering determination and charisma plowed through the humans' doubts. You can finally live along side your family in peace. You helped Asgore trim that one Papyrus-shaped bush. You graduated from Toriel's- no, you graduated from Mom's school. You cheer on Sans as he, absurdly as it may seme, overtook Papyrus in his car whilst riding the blue bike. You got to help Undyne gather up the courage to propose to Alphys, you got to see it happen on the beach. You get to live on, in a world where humans and monster got along.

One day, you climbed MT. Ebott. You didn't care about the legend anymore; even if you fell, you could still travel through the Underground, revisit your memories, until you got to the other side. But no, that's not why you climbed MT. Ebott that day. You had a feeling... a feeling that something you had been trying to do since you finally escaped the Underground was finally going to happen, if you just got there on time. As you climb. you remember the fear you felt, sprinting up the mountain terrain. You remember... the not-so-happy event that caused you to run away. And you smile at the happiness you found. All because you tripped on a branch, right in front of the hole, whilst wavering between cowardice and living on. You climb the mountain, up until you see the small flower patch. It surrounds the hole, so different from the barren scar it had been several years before. You see them... the two figures sitting at the edge of the hole. They hold hands, the one on the left singing, Her beautiful auburn bowl cut bobbing against Her head as She hummed a tune, the figure on the right listening intently, as though His life depended on it. You see His white fur, pristine as His mother's and father's, bristle in the breeze, as you walk forward. She stopped singing abruptly, swinging Her head so She had half Her face showing. Her look of surprise quickly gave way to a warm smile. He noticed, and turned slowly... and He saw you. He looked so happy!... but it slowly gave away to a look of sadness.
"Frisk...", He begins, "what are you doing here? Don't you have anything better to do..?"
You shake your head, a huge grin spreading across your face as tears pour down your cheeks. You speak.
**You have absolutely no idea...how long I've wanted to see you two again...*
She stands up slowly, as if to try not to fall.
"You idiot," She says, tears beginning to form in her eyes, "You shouldn't worry about us. Someone has to take care of these flowers..."
You run forward, tackling the two into the hole, reliving the fall. But instead of the great fear you felt, wind rushing in your hair, arms franticly reaching for a handhold, you feel incredible joy. You fall, the two by you side, still shocked from what you did. As you rush towards the ground, you suddenly slow down. This is by far the prettiest song in the game.
I played the Pacifist run and felt so great to hear this song. I felt so great to have achieved a happy ending where monsters can live above the surface again and Frisk can have a good life.
I put the game down after that. Didn't dare want to reset knowing that I would rip them from that timeline. Unfortunately, my sister wanted to play the game herself, so at some point I had to for her sake.
I'm thankful though, she's doing the pacifist run and I'm going to be guiding her to make sure she doesn't stray. And, I'm more than a little determined to hear this song again and finally put down Undertale for good. Without any reason to want to reset, or have to reset. Lemme tell you, even if we're striving for the same exact ending, I felt terrible just having to reset for my sister to experience the game herself--and knowing that she will probably get some extra bits from Sans for resetting--because I feel like I've broken a promise to myself. It's almost like, my conscious isn't going to rest easy until we put things back the way they were before I reset the game.

*Spoiler warning* I remember just a few weeks ago, I was playing this game and was at the Asriel boss battle, and my mom, who knows I love this game to death, was watching me play. And when his theme began playing, I started to cry like never before. And I calmed down enough to finish the battle, but the very second this song started, I was sobbing. Because when no one else was there for me, the characters of this game were, and I just felt so happy to see them all together...

I'm not going to lie, this game is truly a work of art. It's one of the few pieces of art that has made me tear up, laugh, and even feel anger towards certain characters. I.....i'm glad this game got the amount of attention it did, because it deserves it. Even as people forgot what the game was about, i'm still glad people saw it and experienced it. This game is a masterpiece and it will go down in gaming as one of the best games of all time.

When I hear this song it makes me remember my last day in my old home. It brings me memories of all the fun times a had with my good friends, the walks around the park, I had a good life there. This song makes me want to go back and "replay the game" and wish I would have enjoyed it better than before. I now have a very good life in my home with new friends and a great school, but my old home will always be in my heart and I shall cherish those moments.

Not only does it mean something for monsters; it means something for you, too. You were the hero who lifted the kingdom from its ashes, and soon will bring humans and monsters together again.
Now we wish the humans don't declare war upon the monsters once more.
This is so fitting for an ending/epilogue. I wish my school would play this in the last day of school, after exams. It would be 100x more emotional, especially for the seniors.
