    Like you, I found the Ted talk by chance yesterday. Subsequently I discovered you. Thank you so much for your candidness.
    I was able to get a scrip through the website, heading out in a few to pick up. As crazy as it sounds, I feel kinda freaked out over it.
    Nervous from head to toe, crazy! thanks again for sharing. You brought more humanization to the topic if that makes sense🤙

      Keep on :) For some people they respond right away, others it can take weeks or months to have a response. It's a process...

    So inspired by your videos. Ordered my N today. It’s not covered by a lot of health plans so I’m not going to go through the discriminatory process of trying to get an Rx. Can’t wait to get started!

    Congratulations, Katie! A final victory over the bottle by reversing the addiction process with Targeted Naltrexone and removing the programming that alcohol put there. I agree with you that it's wonderful to not have to think about the drink and not have to "resist" it any longer. It's just *gone* , the battle is *done* and you've *won* !!
    I'm still within low risk drinking limits since August of 2016, drinking under 5% of what I was swilling down prior to using The Sinclair Method. It's been a fantastic tool for evicting overdrinking from my life!

    Congratulations! Do you know anybody who uses The Sinclair Method and Naltrexone for anything other than alcoholism? It seems like it would work on all kinds of addictions as long as those addictions could be systematically targeted.

      Thank you! That's a great question... In the book "The Cure for Alcoholism" he talks about how TSM is a blueprint for treating other addictions... but more research needs to be done. I don't know what else is being done on this at the moment, but am curious!

    What is the experience of drinking like now? Does wine or beer (or whatever) still taste the same? How is the sensation or experience different? Is it almost not worth bothering to drink? Do you get a buzz or is it completely something that doesn't resemble how it was before?

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery  5 років тому +1

      I haven't drank in 7 months because I lost all interest in alcohol and gave it up quite easily. Things would still taste the same for the most part, but like you said - it got to a place where it didn't feel worth the bother to drink. It was not giving me anything good in return anymore. I would still get a little buzz but it was different especially toward the end because I couldn't even finish a whole glass of wine ... I lost a liking for alcohol so I stopped drinking. A freaking miracle :)

    Hello! Glad to see you are doing really well after 7 months, very encouraging! I was wondering what kind of side effects you might have noticed from Naltrexone. I am looking to cut down on drinking. However, I also suffer from mild depression and are afraid taking Naltrexone will make my depression worse then it already it is, seeing that its job is to block pleasure from the brain caused by drinking. Let me know if you might have any advice on the topic of Naltrexone and its relationship to depression. Thanks!

    • @herculewayne106
      @herculewayne106 6 років тому +1

      I'm dysthymic, but Naltrexone really didn't seem to have any effect on that for me. I've read where others found that they felt more depressed on Naltrexone (and some actually were less depressed). Over the months, getting rid of the alcohol *really* benefited my mood, but Naltrexone itself didn't seem to have any direct effect.
      It might be kind of a trade-off, because chronic alcohol use brings it's own kind of depression. Plus, antidepressants generally just don't work that well when you're drinking. I'd check in with a doctor that knows The Sinclair Method, preferably a psychiatrist that has used it successfully. The nice thing about Naltrexone is that if you don't get along with it, there's no problem with stopping it suddenly. Many people have temporary side effects from starting Naltrexone and that lasts from a few days to a couple of weeks, then they fade away.
      One of the benefits of using Naltrexone per The Sinclair Method is that you don't take it on dry days. That allows your endorphins to rebound and you can use that to reinforce healthy habits like exercise.

      Thanks Ralph so much for your comment and great question. I cannot myself speak to naltrexone and link to depression. I have noticed sometimes (but not recently actually) the day after I take Naltrexone I feel a bit down and this is because the endorphin receptors in my brain have been blocked temporarily. However, the following day, I feel good and back to normal. The book "The Cure for Alcoholism" goes into the science of this and that actually, the 2nd day after you take Naltexone your receptors are extra sensitive so doing things that produce endorphins (working out, spicy food, exciting activities, sex, etc) will be extra satisfying. I have had some experience with depression as well (maybe we all have?) and I will say overall, I am much happier and emotionally balanced since starting TSM because as I say in this video, my mind is clear and free to focus on health, growth and well being rather than being pre-occupied with thoughts and cravings of alcohol. I am more confident and empowered. And also no more hangovers. Alcohol is a depressant that for me, I feel it contributing to any sadness or anxiety I felt even though temporarily it felt like it relieved it (well, numbed it). I would highly recommend reading the book "The Cure for Alcoholism" - it's a rather fascinating and quick read. Best of luck to you!!! Let me know if I can be a resource anytime.

      Check with your doctor but there is generally no interaction between Naltrexone and anti depressants. Alcohol is actually a depressant and your mood should change when you stop drinking. all the best

    How do you find socializing without the relaxing effects of Alcohol , thats why I drink my problem is I drink to the point of blackout which is terrible , I got Naltrexone from my doctor , I started on a night out on 25 MG it was a very strange experience I did not feel drunk but did not have the blackout effect as I did not drink as much as I normally did , I think I need to up the MG next time maybe 35Mg would be enough for me ...I dont crave alcohol only when I socialize to deal with social anxiety .

    Means, Naltaxone to be taken your whole life?

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery  6 років тому +1

      Yes, for success with The Sinclair Method you take naltrexone for the rest of your life whenever you consume alcohol... you don't take it on days where you don't drink. :)

      Thnaks for the reply, yesterday i bought the 50MG dose, will start today. I drink on daily basis in the evening. Any trick or suggestion? I feel its not only about craving for me, its also about habit. I drink even when there is no craving. i just go to drink daily because i feel i have probably nothing to do. FOMO you know.

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery  6 років тому +1

      I understand what you mean! It was both habit and addiction for me.... but the addiction was overpowering. What I started, I took the medication 1 hour before I drank, and I drank as I normally would (which was pretty much everyday). After doing that a few days, I couldn't bring myself to drink and I started drinking 3-4 times a week, then soon 2-3, then 1-2, now I drink a few times a month. What I did and still do is drink every time I have a craving - because I know that each time I take a pill 1 hour before and drink, I am erasing the addiction. After the first 2 months or so, I started to pay greater attention to what is habit vs what is craving... Friday night was a habit for me and when I would tune into that, sometimes I would realize it was just habit and not a craving. So, mindful drinking. Does that help?? :) I Hope so.

      Embodied Daily great reply... I am now 2 days into it... Could drink only half of what I used to drink or what i drank a day before starting it. This is a good sign... I'll continue it... It takes time for things or people to earn my trust. I am still skeptical (it might be placebo, lol). Nothing has worked for me this is my last hope. I am so much counting on it. Can you share me your email ID so that i can be in touch with you and share my progress. Will be a great support. My email ID canaveenkumarmavi@gmail.com

      only if you are going to drink. 1 pill, at least an hour before. The Naltrexone
      will decrease your cravings over several months and may eventually make them extinct.
