IkenFell? I hope he’s ok.
i can't believe you just did that.

ok bruh also can see youre a man of culture as well scott the woz is pog
I'm so happy I played Ikenfell. It's cute, funny and emotional magical school RPG. It's a very polished experience and I had a great 24 hours with it on the Switch. It's exactly what I wanted!
The satisfying light tactical combat is the star of the show. One thing that stands out to me is that there's no concept of MP, and I love it. Each spell is balanced in other ways. They can be more useful or more powerful or have a wider range or easier to hit the action commands. And the action command system is unique and really well implemented. By default, a miss or hit can mean 3x the damage taken or given, which really makes the fights engaging, and the unique commands per spell conveys each character's and enemy's style and personality.
On top of that there's a whole set of accessibility options, and I'm making use of a few. One to reduce hand strain, one to compensate for the drift in my 3rd faulty set of joycons... There are a number of settings to reduce the importance of the action commands, and I recommend giving them a shot if you get frustrated or have difficulty hitting them consistently.
My only downside was the music. I wasn't a fan of the environment, battle, or vocal tracks. But that might be just a matter of taste. They're the only miss for me in an otherwise spotless package.
All in all, if you've liked any of the following games or series you should totally check this out:
• Magical Starsign series
• Harry Potter (GameBoy Color)
• Bug Fables
• Paper Mario series
• Mario and Luigi series
• Super Mario RPG
The designs look great
I'll wait and see if Limited Run or someone prints this before I get it
Silksongs good pick it up when it comes out
Everyone is saying this looks like celeste, but it reminds me of zelda minish cap
The Galaxy Wings not really minish cap is more pkmn gen 3

kind of baffled that this game has a catchy theme song like "Paint the Future" with lots of personality and they keep not using it in their trailers
Basically Harry Potter with a Celeste artstyle lol
Isn't a "Celeste Art style" just a 16 bit art style?

Am I the only one that thinks this voice doesn’t fit the character
No.This doesn't really fit her more determined, affable attitude.
It's just for the trailer. There is no voice acting in the game

I still believe that the voice actress doesn't..."fit",for a lack of a better word.

Getting Mario and Luigi, Earthbound, Undertale, and Pokémon vibes.
I love it.
Same here! I love it!
I was thinking Celeste/Earthbound myself
@Willyboi!!
I’m digging the EarthBound/MOTHER vibes. I’ve had a Mother shaped hole in my heart ever since my Wii U with EarthBound VC on it died. Maybe this’ll fill the void :)
I was thinking some Golden Sun too from the puzzles and general flavor of what was present, but def Mario Luigi in terms of art style and combat.
Honestly such good places to draw inspiration from!
Celeste earthbound undertale something fire emblem
Edit: oh and chronotrigger
Did u say fire emblem because of the name Ikenfell?
It has a golden sun feel to it
It seems to have a some strategy similar to Fire Emblem
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
Don’t forgot it sounds like Steven universe
I’m glad I backed this game all those years ago can’t wait to play it!! 😄👍
Dannytalk Oh? How long was this game in dev? It had a kickstarter?
Ned The Head about 4.5 years ago was the Kickstarter which considering how long other video game kickstarters take (if they deliver) is pretty alright. Especially since there were consistent updates.
I’ve been waiting for this new Earthbound game

I kind of feel bad for not hearing about this sooner. It looks really good

*"I am dead", "Ikenfell".*
U ok, Nintendo?
Nabbed it a couple days ago, honestly having a blast. Solid combat system, decent chiptune music (I do rather enjoy the 'Its Showtime' song,) and honestly just a solid classic style JRPG.
Holy crap
I need to play this

The described plot for this game is so by-the-books Young Adult fantasy that I think it gave me a paper cut.
Yeah it sounds super mild. Still it looks cozy to play.
Tf? It sounds so little like YA. No distopyan world, no love triangle, no greyscale aesthetic... how many YA novels have you ever read?

I highly recommend this game!!! I just started playing and it's incredible so far!

I feel bad that programmers probably wanna make their game really successful and popular but people just ignore them
the problem is that a lot of them look really similar to other titles.
indie devs often commit to "pixelated rpg adventure, with a unique combat system" without really going into depth of what makes some indie games like undertale or fnaf popular, as they usually ignore the importance of a fun and intense soundtrack or iconic designs.
@Darling Vexa Art I see your point, but my reasoning for that many indie games look alike and therefore none are more interesting than the others, is because they often don't utilize every aspect that is made available in a video game. For example, many people buy Undertale simply for Sans and Megalovania alone, which are 1. visual character design, and 2. sound design. While gameplay is important, it has to coincide with every aspect a video game has to offer, which is more than just the story or characters. Indie devs always prioritize having that distinct battle system or story without trying to variate on making extremely iconic character designs, making soundtracks that utilize currently popular genres like electronic or hip hop, customization options, and least of all entertaining mini games that can ease out the traditional gameplay loop. This makes it hard to stand out from many other indie titles, such as CrossCode, Celeste, Wargroove and many others that i fail to remember as of writing this. For example, I find that it is difficult to find an Indie rpg that does not refuse to use anything but an orchestral soundtrack, while Undertale makes use of rock, electrical, and dance styles along with your basic orchestral music. and sans has one of the single most iconic designs in all of indie video games. With indie games of different genres not RPGs, they usually never have exciting gameplay, and the visuals are often not as exciting either, as they are moreso designed to look pretty and tranquil, rather than build the world as a whole. While a calm setting of trees or a dimly lit cave is pretty, its not that interesting and can pull you out of the immersion if its all that you ever see. FNAF on the other hand, while not being as accentuated with their soundtrack, makes up for it in using visual elements to drive home the horror genre, extremely intense and rewarding gameplay along with different animatronic designs, along with tons of lore if you follow all of the titles that is very entertaining in its own right. This is why I find Hades, another recent indie title that has come out, a very interesting and exciting game, because it has an extremely well designed main character, a very interesting animation style, and an exciting combat system that while common, compliments every other aspect, and utilizes as many aspects as it can. as for people only buying from game companies they know and love- theres a reason for that, and its because those games are damn good. Like seriously even though indie games don't get that much respect as you THINK they might deserve, remember that these big companies started out making what would be considered "indie games" way back then, like the Witcher Series or Dark Souls, which in my opinion, don't get the respect that they deserve either. If you are talking about things like Sony or Nintendo, remember that they have over 2 decades of experience making these games, and obviously know how to make good games, which makes people realize that maybe their games are good since they've been making good games for over 2 decades. Finally, with the "3D this or 3D that" remember that 3D also has its own charm, and there's a reason why its demanded. Imagine something like Devil May Cry suddenly becoming 2D, where the combat and animations don't have that feels of strength that comes with the freedom of being 3D, where the camera is usually static and you can't look at a single situation from multiple angles, which also makes taking pictures of cool or funny parts difficult, or just putting yourself into the correct position to win the fights. If DMC was 2D we wouldn't have the free flow of having that 3rd dimension in terms of gameplay, pulling out an aspect of what is possible to make an attack, and pulling even more so style. Not only that, developers also have limited detail they can add into 2D, such as facial expression, or special physics such as hair or water. This is not to say that 2D does not have charm, i am simply defending that 3D has its own charms that you might under appreciate or refuse to notice due to bias.
While it is fine to prefer 2D over 3D, its just a matter of opinion after all, remember that there are lots of reasons that support both sides, and you just because pixel art has charm doesn't mean 3D art or literally just not pixel art with smooth lines, also have their own charms that people find more preferable. Again with my original point, that many indie titles look the same for the most part, compare the animation of this and "galaxy of pen and paper" or even one of the other titles i had mentioned like CrossCode and Wargroove, and you can really see how similar these types of games can be. It doesn't help that all of the things that i have mentioned are some kind of rpg either.
This game had a successful kickstarter, so you don't need to feel too bad about it in this case
The New Earthbound game looks Awesome
I'm waiting to replay Earthbound for switch, I dont want to play it in Snes classic or emulator

@@biggpimpin voice acting sounds fine. Sorry it's not anime.
That's not how hidden gem works. The game has to be out first. A game with pixel art doesn't make it a "great indie game" by default. It also has to be forgotten/cult for it to be a "hidden gem".
An example of a hidden gem is like Stella Glow for the 3DS. No one really remembers it or heard of it but it's a good game.

Featuring Narancia from the JJBA series?
So, in Ima's theme, it's pronounced "Ick-en-fell" but in the Switch release trailer it's pronounced "Ike-en-fell" (which is what I thought it was until I heard Ima's theme) and now I'm sooo confused.
Yo why Narancia in this game?
I just fell like nintendo is throwing new and random games at us
I could not be happier that this is coming to Switch!! Suuuuuper hyped for that aivi and surasshu soundtrack too, my lord
Excited to pick up the game but gosh
I do not understand voice over trailers. They're *never* good. The narration is *always* boring, no matter what kind of game you're hitting us with. I hate just listening to a bare bones monotone voice over when you could just show me some snappy moments of the game with a powerful/catchy track and call it good.
yes!! the narrator sounds too generic, feels like I'm watching some tutorial on youtube or some top 10 generated by a bot. The game looks pretty good, but the whole atmosphere of the game is severely affected by the voice on top
Hopefully the music in the trailer is in the game too. Sounds phenomenal.
Okay sure, but why does this girl sound like a watchmojo list announcer?

I wish more retro style Indie games did something like that
You can actually put it in wide screen in the settings if you want to
