Amazing thing about this movie,is it,s a lesson in how even as dim witted as forest was,he lived an extrodinary life none the less.and accomplished a lot.and when bullies pick on some one, that person could turn out to be a success.
I have yet to hear a reactor talk about the particular scene but I love how Lt. Dan stood up for Forrest at that New Years Eve "party" back in his room. It was the first time you see that, despite all his bravado, he really does have a good heart.
So many people miss how powerful that scene is and the meaning behind it. He gives Forrest shit all the time for being dumb but when someone else says it, he’s ready for a fight. That is flat out respect.
Anyone who cared about forest got upset when people called him stupid ie jenny, mom and lt. Dan. I only saw one person to take note of that on a reaction. I thought it was ironic that most people believed him to be “stupid” but he excelled in anything he put his mind to.
My Dad was a Marine in 68-69 Da Nang. He always said that forest gump was the most accurate depiction of combat in Vietnam. He said " you'd be on patrol one minute, minding your business wouldn't have a care in the world... then all hell would break loose. Last a few minutes and that be it."
Insurgent tactics...close ambush/hit and run with small arms/mines/mortars, which were characteristic of VC tactics in Vietnam and many other insurgent conflicts through history. Such tactics are frustrating for conventional forces but generally not very damaging to a conventional force.
@@ItsMeBarnaby Indeed typical insurgent hit and run tactics are harder to counter with concealment due to heavy vegetation which makes delivery of accurate fire support difficult. As you note insurgent forces managed to defeat DC both in the jungles of Vietnam and Mideast deserts ultimately more through persistence, determination and political will than damage from brief engagements with US troops. Of course in Vietnam the NVA did engage US forces in a more substantive manner at times (e.g. Khe Sanh).
@@ItsMeBarnaby I’ve lived here in Saigon for over 6 years. I’ve heard many stories from locals on why many started to side with the VC. Agent orange had a lot to do with it, and the CIA death squads that slaughtered whole villages didn’t help.
The scene when Forrest finds out that he has a son, and he asks about little Forrest's intelligence. It breaks me every time. Such an amazing scene. I see it touched you ladies deeply as well.
When I saw that in the theatre for the first time, it broke me. "Is he smart or..."... damn. Kick right to the feels. Though the scene where there aren't enough rocks hit a little closer to home for me. I can't reflect on the past without feeling that way. They say the best art makes you feel. This isn't a movie, this is art.
Sometimes the way we language our world holds us back. How many times have you heard or said, "....broke down and cried"? Well the truth is crying is NOT 'breaking down', it's opening up. This scene didn't break you, it opened you up. Pass that around if you can.
Tom Hanks played this character so amazingly well that you forget that he's acting and he's that person who he's portraying. That's why I love this movie, it's an amazing story.
I find it amazing that people always ask why didn't she tell him about his son before, they forget that he was running for three years, just like when he got Jenny's return letters, she also was moving around the country at that time And poor Jenny had so many problems that she didn't think she was good enough for him Her being molested as a child really messed her up that's why she always choose guy's that was bad for her and she didn't know what love was until she had her son and finally got herself together
Forrest was different,I still don't think she ever loved him in that way or was truly attracted. But she was allowing men who didn't care about her to use her for years. In the end I think she just decided to make Forrest who genuinely cared about her happy. On the one hand I hate it because it doesn't seem authentic. But on the other hand she knows Forrest isn't smart enough to see that. He is genuinely the happiest man on earth when she ask to marry him. I've also seen some people say that she only needed someone to take care of her son. As messed up you can say it is,its Jenny finally being selfless and thinking about the people who truly love her,and she loves.
@@gamblertoguru382 I don't think that's true, Jenny was molested by her father which led to her self Worth, and because Forrest was a pure and gentle soul she felt unworthy of him, that's why she said you don't want to marry me She thought she deserved men like her father who used and abused her She was the one who didn't know what love was until she had her child and got her life together
@@that.ll_do_pig Of course theres more than one kind of love. There can be platonic and romantic love between men and women. And I believe Forrest was firmly in the platonic space when it came to Jenny. I think she saw him as a little brother who she took care of and vice versa. There is no doubt she had love for him. I just don't think it was a romantic, passionate love Forrest was feeling.
@@margiewilliams537 Nah. She waited soooo long to tell it to Forest. Like 10 years before Forest Junior birth. I mean, wtf. She waited until the moment she felt sick. She told to Forest because she had no choice.
The feather goes wherever the wind blows. It is a metaphor for Forrest and Jenny's lives and life in general. Your life can be directionless just blowing in the wind or a box of chocolates, where you enjoy the ups and downs along the journey. The "winds" took them in very different directions but they somehow managed to find each other later in life and were able to be together. Even if it was just for a brief time.
Agreed. At Jenny's grave Forrest says, "I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin' around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both."
@@maxbarclay5844 Jenny tells Forrest to pray with her to turn into a bird so she can fly away and that desire is recalled later when she is standing on the bridge and when she climbs on the edge of the balcony. When Forrest is at her grave and finishes speaking to her a flock of white birds flies up and over him. :)
One of the best parts of the movie is that Forrest always refers to Lt. Dan with his rank. To Lt. Dan, it showed that Forrest never saw him as any less of himself and still looked up to him despite being an amputee. "You're still Lt. Dan" sticks with him for the rest of the film and despite being rude towards Forrest, he's willing to stand up for him when push comes to shove.
LT Dan, played by Gary Sinise, is/was such an inspiration to injured service members that Mr Sinise has a band called the Lt Dan Band. They travel around to military bases playing free concerts. He also has the Gary Sinise Foundation that works with injured soldiers, ptsd, mental health and even builds homes for them. I would highly suggest watching the videos where he talks about what Lt Dan has meant to people.
LT dan is my favorite character in this movie, i was actually him for halloween a few years ago. i never knew this, but it makes me love the character even more. thank you for sharing!
Jenny's arc in this whole movie was the opposite from Forrest's. Forrest's story was about knowing deep down he's different, but he turned it into a good thing as he runs towards his destiny no matter what it is, spreading love wherever he went, even when anyone else wouldn't. Jenny's story was about running from the scars of her childhood that her family caused and to find happiness. You can see through where she went what kind of peace with herself she was trying to find. First she went to college find happiness in success, but she was soon kicked out for recklessness. Then she decided to try and live her old dream of being a folk singer, but it turned out she was only welcome in that career for all the wrong reasons. That's where she gave up on trying to find happiness and decided she just needs to run away from the sadness, with the hippies and party-goers. But deep down Jenny knew the only place she was truly happy was with Forrest, but she convinced herself she wasn't worthy of his admiration by telling herself things like "He would only get hurt being with me like everyone else" and "You must've tricked him somehow into loving you, he's too innocent to know the difference". That's why you hear her say that line "You don't know what love is", because she doesn't either. And she doesn't want to hurt him to be hurt like how she's emotionally broken herself her whole life. This led through all the way up to even when she had a child, but then she finally found something worth loving that she couldn't run away from. That's what finally started healing her pain from her childhood, and it took 3 years to finally muster the courage to face Forrest again after all that she'd done to him. (Plus him running from place to place probably made it hard to get a hold of him, remember this was a time before cell phones). My point is people often are too busy judging Jenny to understand why she acts the way she does. She's was raised with abuse and was taught that it was all she deserved. She was strong enough to unlearn that ideology and bring Forrest back into her life for only a fraction of how long they should've been together. So it's sad, and unfair, but she found the peace in herself to love Forrest with no regrets.
I agree with everything you said …I’ve tried explaining the same thing to people who completely don’t get Jenny‘s side of the story all they do is hate on her 👏🏻👏🏻
@@carograh Lol thx, I know it can be a little annoying to hear people bash her, but I know it just because they care a lot about Forrest's feelings so much that they don't take the time to unpack why Jenny is the way she is. She had enough going on as a character to unravel that it's as if it's nearly enough for her to have her own movie. So I don't think it's fair to judge people for seeing Jenny only on the surface level because the movie just didn't have enough time to give people anymore hints to her state of mind without being heavy handed. Some people just find forgiveness for her actions hard, maybe they should be a little more like Forrest.
Very well said. Much respect. Some people expect that everybody had a childhood much like their's and that is often not the case. Too often childhood experiences can be traumatic. Jenny was clearly traumatized and was always running from it. Forest had a good mom. Jenny had a crap dad. Jenny experienced something no child ever should and then quasi-coped as an adult. Faked it for a good long while, anyway. No fault on her. In her mind she was being honorable. Sparing him harm.
I agree with what you said about Jenny.. When I first watch the movie I hated her character but as time went on I started understanding her story more and ended up feeling sorry for her. I also feel why she constantly kept running away from Forest was because she didn’t want to hurt him the same way others did to her. A n example what’s the scene when they were in her college dorm room and she tries to have sex with him . Forest is uncomfortable and confused because he doesn’t know what is going on so Jenny quickly backs off because she thinks that she is hurting him. Or when she would shoot Forest down every time he said he loved her telling him he didn’t know what love is. That was because she didn’t know what it was herself. One thing I disagree with you on is where you said that Forest was running towards his destiny. The thing was he didn’t have any goals, dreams or destiny like other people around him did. he just took whatever came his way and ended up being good at what he put all of his focus on and being a huge impact on others around him. A lot of people in the movie thought everything he did had a reason behind it and couldn’t understand that Forest did what he did “just because”. That’s why you see the feather in the beginning and end of the movie because it is a representation of himself. He is a feather floating in the breeze.
You asked if there are people like Forrest. and I can tell you there are. I have ab autistic daughter and an autistic son and despite all the hardships, I feel blessed to be their Father because it's a privilege to take care of two of the purest human beings I have ever known. Every moment I spend with them it has been like a preview to heaven because they are perfect in every single way
I used to do 5km runs everyday it definitely makes you feel a whole lot better afterward, except if you are bitten by a dog which I was once while running. I was so obsessed with beating my stop watch I kept running even though my ankle was bleeding. lol
They were mad that Jenny didn't contact him earlier to tell him he had a son. But how could she when he was running across the country. As soon as he got home to his place of residence she did.
A masterpiece. Robert Zemeckis has directed, also: "Cast Away", "Back To The Future", "Contact", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", "Romancing The Stone", "Amazing Stories", "Death Becomes Her", "What Lies Beneath", "Flight", "The Walk", "Polar Express", "A Christmas Carol", "Welcome To Marwen", and more. The imprint he has had, on pop culture is unbelievable. Everyone, in the 80's, was quoting lines, from "Back To The Future". Everyone, in the 90's, was quoting lines from "Forrest Gump". In the 2000's, everyone who left the theater, after seeing "Cast Away", knows the one name, that they yelled. You can still hear it, echoing in your mind. 🏐
Michelle, remember from the 100k live chat when Viki said this movie was her favorite. Now you see why. In her reaction, it touched her so deeply she couldn't forget about it. And I see it deeply touched both of you all as well. Great reaction.
@@EndTimeDreams Viki does have that power to make you feel her empathy. Maybe Viki is an empath like in super hero high. or in Fringe. When the guy could influence the people around him to have his matching emotional state.
Jenny keeps running because she feels like she's not worthy of him, because she's "damaged" and that he deserves better. She's not being stupid per se, she's just failing to see her own value because of the childhood she had.
Forest Gump is a classic kind of story telling that is really popular in America called the "American Tall Tale." Usually the story is so fantastical it's hard to believe, involves a hero on a long journey of discovery in which he meets many strangers that teach him things along the way, and by the end of the movie you get some kind of revelation that shows you the story was true. I've never seen a Tall Tale that wasn't good. Other fun ones include Joe Dirt, Big Fish, Secondhand Lions, and The Cherokee Kid.
It is so fantastic to see a younger generation enjoying and understanding this movie. I think that because of Forrest learning difficulties that he in a way even as he got older saw things innocently like a child. I cry every time I watch this movie and have for years. I really like all four of you girls. I know they were only two of you in this video but I watched one the other two girls did the video too. I hope that you had a merry Christmas. I just found this channel today and I have kind of been binge watching your channel. I really enjoy it. God bless you all.
56:48 Everyone has this good in them.... that is why we can respond emotionally when watching the movie and seeing the goodness of the character. It is all about personal choice. We can all choose, with each decision we make, how to live our lives. Lovely movie.
I think Jenny was the second most important person in the movie. The movie showed her life from basically the same time as it started with Forest. You did pick up on the abuse and you didn't say too much bad about her and I'm glad for that [allot of reactors love Forest so much they don't like Jenny] she truly loved Forest and had the same deep down kind nature as he. She was the only one to befriend him on the bus at the very start to show her good nature. [and continued to be his good friend through high school, imagine how hard that was with all the bullies still on Forrest's case, so to speak] I know others have commented on the trauma she would have had to deal with [an obviously very deep wounding of her] so I won't go into that, just point out that they [as the two main subjects of the plot] were basically two kind hearted and worthy people from two different upbringings. She talks of how their lives are so different. [recognizing her flaws] She repeatedly tells Forrest She Does Love Him [in one way or another, always in a sad tone, knowing she could hurt the one true constant good in her life if she let him into hers then] And not wanting to hurt the only true one she did love would say "You don't want to marry me" [imagine how it must have hurt her to have to tell him that!]. She had to fix herself [with no help from anyone in those days -totally on her own to heal herself] before worthiness could take place. Forrest helped everyone! And the way he helped her was finally to let her find the first true lovemaking she had ever done after she recovered at his house. [her choice finally to see it's OK to have a good man watch over her as she obviously made the best decision of her life to "clean up" -with all the sleeping that was needed] When she agreed with Forrest that he would make a good husband on those stairs it led to the final "fix" that happened when she would have felt so badly when he thought she didn't love him. She finally allowed herself to express to him [and herself] the lovemaking she had never known and was always afraid to accept. It was real. It was good. [for both of them] And it was time to leave [yes, once again] but this time Not Running. It was time to make herself a good clean life without his help to be sure she wouldn't hurt him to be with him. [remember she was really new to the clean life, with just those few weeks or so clean so far] She proved it to herself and I believe would have contacted Forrest about his child even if she had not come down with Hepatitis C [a not defined or understood illness back then -it wasn't aids as the author has said it was Hep C] Two deep down Good People, with very different lives who non the less helped each other throughout their life's even as differently as it went for them. One finding it very easy to let the deep-down good person show, the other struggling greatly to let that nature show. Together it showed in both of them easily. It was a true love story from beginning to end. That's all I got to say about that.
Let me tell you ladies and Larry something. The reason why this channel is so beloved is that we that see and sense the love y'all have for each other. It comes out so naturally like ya'll are one family. I love seeing you ladies hold hands like y'all are the best of friends in these videos. This really comes out in every aspect of you alls reactions and it's great to see. This is why you have a lot of the success y'all are like one big family. One, if not the most beautiful and heartbreaking movies I've ever seen in my life - a movie I'd love to show my kids, later - great reaction as always! my homies are the best reactors here, felt like the first time watching, thank you guys and best greets from germany! ♥
I also think that when she realized she was pregnant, she started pulling her life together. It probably would've been a long process before she was ready to reach out.
I thought u might be interested to know that each little story in this is true like the hippie girl and the soldier at the Washington monument, the little boy in braces teaching Elvis to dance, the man who saved his platoon in Vietnam, the shrimp boat that made it through the hurricane etc etc. The writer was really interested in all the stories and thought how great it would be if it all happened to one man. Such a great film.
Thanks for sharing your experience, girls! To me this movie is truly unique, I don't know any movie to compare it with and I think it is the ultimate bittersweet movie. I see Forest as the feather, picked up by the wind. To me the power of the film - amongst others - lies in the relativizing tone of the dramatic events (like "he was always kissing and touching her and her sisters"). Scenes that really stood out to me are of course the meeting with his son - "is he ..... smart , or ....." - and the rock throwing scene - "I guess sometimes there just aren't enough rocks". Thanks again, till a next time and warm regards from the Netherlands!
The main theme is Destiny/Destination. Forrest said he ran to to get to where he was going - a destination. Jenny is always running away from something - no destination. Both of their journeys are like the feather in the wind, not knowing where they'll ultimately end up.
Hey Michael O! Forrest Gump is such a special movie for many reasons, but I think it is VERY impressive how it balances many different genres of film! I feel like I am watching a Coming-Of-Age movie, Comedy movie, Drama movie, Romance movie, and War movie, all at 1 time! It is also very Inspirational to me, and I quote it all the time as well! Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (And even though Forrest might not have Autism, I think him and my brother can relate in that they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my UA-cam channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/Or-sIiNANYg/v-deo.html If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! I hope you Have a great day today, Michael O! Please Stay Safe and Stay Awesome! 🙂🙂🙂
19:00 It just occured to me, they might have portayed Lt. Dan´s dying ancestors the way Forrest has imagined, what dying looks like. A bit cartoonish? Maybe. But I would like to go out with the facial expression his WWII relative died with. lol Lovely reaction!
great reaction such a great movie i pick up on something new every time i watch it. theres so many little things especially with Lt. Dan like when he says to forrest "do you have any idea what it's like not to be able to use your legs?" and forrest says "ye-yes sir i do." or how lt dan who was very racist married an woman of asian descent. he even tells forrest "the day you become a shrimp boat captain is the day i become an astronaut" then when he shows him his new legs he tells forrest the metal is what they use on space shuttles, god i love this movie. also their next movie they were both in together was apollo 13 where they play astronauts lol
If you want to watch a movie that can trigger similar emotions as this movie where the main character is a decent and kind man like Forest yet opposite in that he is highly intelligent with big dreams of seeing and making his way in the world but instead ends up through different circumstances never able to leave his hometown then I would recommend watching 'It's a Wonderful Life' from 1946. Especially since we're in the Christmas season.
I love how they tie in the feather. I look at as, like the feather blows with the wind, our life is the same way. Destiny takes us in any direction. I love how Forest approaches his life and all the changes with a sense of innocence, not questioning but just doing what is right. Love you reactions as always.
It's easy to hate jenny but once you think about her trauma you understand her. I love the scene where they walk to her house and she starts throwing rocks at it. If you pay attention, you can hear say, while holding her breath,. "How ...could...you...do ..that...to me". Her father's sexual abuse made her feel like she didn't deserve Forrest, she never felt worthy of him. And if course once she had his kid, she caught HIV and she called him because she knew she was dying and wanted Forrest to have his son.
If he actually was his son. She got back with him because she needed someone to take care of her son. If she wasn't dying, I'm not sure she would have come back to him. She loved him, but she wasn't in love with him. To her, he was like a little brother who loves you unconditionally and that makes him very precious to you, even though you hate yourself. The thing is, I believe even if he wasn't his son, Forrest would have still taken him in because he loved Jenny, but I don't think she would have been willing to risk being wrong.
Can we acknowledge the pain that jenny put this man through. She just took advantage of what kind of person he was she knew he wasn't going anywhere And he'd always be there. Which is exactly why you don't wanna be this nice of a person you just end up being a door mat attracting people with muddy feet!
@@thehills1042 She didn’t take advantage of him. Try having a childhood like her and see if you don’t come put of it with serious issues. She was conditioned to hate herself, to confuse abuse and love. The only way she knew how to cope was by running.
I've watched a few of these Forrest Gump reactions and I enjoy the woman's viewpoint. So many of the women were frustrated at Jenny especially at the sickness reveal.
Jennys arc could have been told more explicit. I think many miss that she being molested by her father messed her up and not seeing her own self whorth.
Doesn’t matter, keeping a child away from his father like she did is enough to condemn a person to the dustbin. And that’s just one of many awful things she did to him.
What Forrest had was Polio and as a child in late 50s we got Polio Vaccine Shots. Now their has been no case since 1979 in the U.S. but still prevalent in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"Yeeeeees, he afford himself to buy some legs." One of the funniest sentences I've ever heard. I truly cried laughing 😂😂😂. Thank you ladies, I love your channel.
You have to understand, Jenny loved Forrest. She hated herself. I also was a victim of sexual abuse as a child. Not to the extent that Jenny was, and not from a family member, but from a friend of the family. I blocked it away for many many years. It made me cold, it has screwed up every single relationship I’ve been in. It’s tough for me to get close to people. Jenny couldn’t accept happiness. Forrest was happiness and she didn’t feel like she deserved it. I think even in the end she didn’t feel like she deserved it, but Forrest jr deserved to be with a great man.
You know how Jenny told Forrest to run away? That’s how she learned to deal with problems. She prayed to be a bird and fly away. So from a young age that’s the only way she thought you could escape is to run away. Also the feather floating I think symbolizes when Forrest asked if we’re just floating along on a breeze or if we have a destiny? Then he said maybe both are happening at the same time. So with the feather it was floating on a breeze and also maybe it was destined to make the journey that it did.
Forest made his decisions with his heart rather than his brain and things always turned out well. Was it destiny or did he make things happen. Was that feather destined to float in the air or did it just happen. Great movie
yeah one thing I always liked is the concept of "intelligence doesn't matter if your heart is in the right place". Throughout the movie you see more intelligent people than Forrest try their best to gain some measure of control in life. And they are off worse than him. Because he stays true and honest and moral. Tragic things happen. But Forrest is rewarded for being pure. That is the way I view the film.
"UA-camrs who specialize on "reaction videos" exist to fulfill our fantasy of showing a video to a friend and them reacting like we want them to." - Some guy on Reddit.
Two things have been missed by commentators and the ladies reviewing... one of the funniest things in this movie is after he punches that asshole for slapping Jenny, is he says to everyone there, "Sorry I had a fight in the middle of your Black Panther party." is just hilariously funny and I laugh every time i see it. The Panthers were violent (I think rightfully so) and considering what was going on in 68 -69, how they would react to it. Also, after they were walking around Jenny in looking at Forrest in his uniform seeing how much he liked the Army when he was in it, saw him for the man he was. Forrest was proud of his actions and in doing what she had said for him to do was the right thing and was rewarded for it, in that running away, saved the lives of how many men? He did it right.
The book was written as a satire of American society, making fun of how too many people make life way more complicated than it actually is, I think it’s genius, my dad a army infantry veteran absolutely loved it, he’s a squad leader and he had a soldier from Georgia, a big strong farm boy, who just crushed it in the army, never complained, never talked about politics, etc just gave his best and was allways super respectful to everyone, didn’t talk much, so this reminded me of my dad telling me this
I always love the Fruit Company joke about Apple especially since it wasn’t that massive of a deal back when the movie was made. If you would’ve invested after leaving the movie theater you’d be a millionaire now.
fun fact, that feather when floating in the air was done in a computer and took around 90 hours to render fully with a full room of computers doing it.
Jenny gets a lot of hate but she didn't think she was in love with Forrest because she thought she was taking advantage of him the same way her father molested her. Every time Forrest gets close she gets scared she is taking advantage of him and runs away. She keeps leaving Forrest behind because she convinces herself that he doesn't really love her. She convinces herself that his affections are shallow, since he would never be able to really understand love either. Take that scene with Forrest and her in her college dormroom. Had the genders been reversed, people would be so extremely uncomfortable about that scene because it'd be inching so close to rape. Jenny knows that. She realizes that. She thinks she is molesting him. So she runs away. Again. It takes her whole life to figure out that love is so simple that even Forrest can understand it and she gives in and loves him.
I lived long enough to see my childhood princesses become generals. Jenny is Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride and she became General Antiope in Wonder Woman, Leia from Star wars and she became General in the latest Star Wars movies
4:17 - I think it was like an early Airbnb, not just a house who accepts travellers. 4:40 - The voice was Kurt Russel's. 15:04 - This was a way to criticize the military. Forrest is mentally troubled but in the army he's considered a genius. 18:45 - Nobody ever reacts to the fact that Lt. Dan is the only one that after acknowledging Forrest's mental situation doesn't tell him that he's stupid but tries to accomodate him. 20:43 - It's debatable whether it's better to be a stripper or a drug addict with an uncontrolled sexual life. 29:02 - According to Tom Hanks he said is: "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 30:31 - The problem is the context: Forrest, being a war hero, was associated with the right-winged government policy and he just beat up a peace activist in a place where everybody was angry at the government. 32:56 - For all the ping-pong scenes the ball was added in CGI, so he wasn't actually playing. 49:29 - Not continuously
about the 29:02 moment I realised that this is one of the few things where the people listening at the bus-stop got to hear the important part and we the viewers were left hanging, compared to so many other things where we get to see Elvis, Watergate Hotel, the smiley face or "shit happens" and the listeners just got some vague description
Nope, it was a Boarding House. They often posted signs outside stating how many vacancies they had available. You didn't need a reservation. You just showed up, paid the rent for the room, and that was it.
This movie came out when I was 12, and I liked it then. But at 40, fuck lol I'm feeling it too much now. Lost friends to military, lost my best friend recently, wanting kids, seeing him walking with his little boy at the end. Shit got too real. Touched home
One line that makes me laugh that most people don't notice. When the Army recruiter asks Forrest if he's given any thought to his future. Forrest's answer is "Thought?"
If you have not yet watched "Breaker Morant" (1980) [based on the true but controversial story] I think that it might make for a great reaction video. The film won ten Australian Film Institute Awards including: Best Film, Best Direction, Leading Actor, Supporting Actor, Screenplay, Art Direction, Cinematography, and Editing. It was also nominated for the 1980 Academy Award for the Best Writing (Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium).
I also had my Jenie. It was my first love, a platonic love since I was 10 years old. When I was 16 I enlisted in the paratroopers... Some time later I went back to look for her. He had died of a heroin overdose. I couldn't save her...
22:53 in this scene, Lt. Dan says, "...you dink son of a bitch". thats important because "dink" is a derogatory term for people from vietnam and this shows Dan as being racist toward them however... over the years, due to Forrest's influence and example, Dan gives up these feelings and ends up marrying a vietnamese woman. There are tons of small sub-themes or sub-plots layered within this film displaying how Forrest has had a major positive impact on people around him.
56:19 the feather is to suggest that it is both true that we have a destiny and that we are just floating on a breeze.... The feather floats and then finds its way to Forrest at the bus stop as he's telling people his story...and it is the feathers destiny to be picked up by Forrest and kept in his favorite book and then later released at the school bus stop where it again floats on a breeze.
You wondered why Jenny did not tell Forrest about his child, it is possible she tried, Forrest had been running for over 3 years, so maybe she could not get in touch with him.
I was good friends w a man w a 85 IQ....he was plenty intelligent when it came to how understanding people....now days we call it a learning disability
If you all like Tom Hanks, react to the movie A League of Their Own. You'll love it, it's during World World 2. They stopped Major League baseball and replaced it with an all-female baseball league.
When he said " is he smart or" that scene is powerful emotional 🤧 to everyone.
I'm a mean old man of 56 years and that scene just breaks my heart every time I watch it.
Military veteran, 33 years old.
That scene has me 😭😭😭😭😭 every time.
That part always wrecks me!
I was never really upset with Lt. Dan's character at any point in the movie. He was crusty but loveable.
That's his private. Lt Dan would die for Forrest and vice versa.
@jaybyrd89 Check out Ellie's first time watching this movie. 👍
Wow. Even with the movie for reference it's hard to imagine the reality the people had to live with in those times.
My dad was in Da Nang in 1969… he was in the Air Force though. Thank yours for his service for me!
The scene when Forrest finds out that he has a son, and he asks about little Forrest's intelligence. It breaks me every time. Such an amazing scene. I see it touched you ladies deeply as well.
Same here
Ditto!
@@lakeracer8453 love this :-)
Tom Hanks played this character so amazingly well that you forget that he's acting and he's that person who he's portraying. That's why I love this movie, it's an amazing story.
He did the same in " Big ". He became the character.
hes a good actor but a very boring person in RL
I find it amazing that people always ask why didn't she tell him about his son before, they forget that he was running for three years, just like when he got Jenny's return letters, she also was moving around the country at that time
And poor Jenny had so many problems that she didn't think she was good enough for him
Her being molested as a child really messed her up that's why she always choose guy's that was bad for her and she didn't know what love was until she had her son and finally got herself together
@@gamblertoguru382 disagree. "Truly attracted" or "loved him in that way"....narrow views of love would lead one to think this.*
@@gamblertoguru382
I don't think that's true, Jenny was molested by her father which led to her self Worth, and because Forrest was a pure and gentle soul she felt unworthy of him, that's why she said you don't want to marry me
She thought she deserved men like her father who used and abused her
She was the one who didn't know what love was until she had her child and got her life together
You have a prophetic gift
I thought it was cause she wanted to be a bird and fly away
My understanding is that he did need the leg braces at first, but by the time of the chase scene, they had done their job.
Yes and he needed them for his back and not for his legs.
The doctor did a good job straightening him up. King right there.
That's amazing.
Why is this not talked about more? I think it's the first time I've heard that and it's wonderful.
LT dan is my favorite character in this movie, i was actually him for halloween a few years ago. i never knew this, but it makes me love the character even more. thank you for sharing!
I don't know if it is available online or streaming but his documentary "GARY SINISE: ALWAYS DO A LITTLE MORE" is really worth the watch.
I love that Lia was able to complete a thought without being interrupted by a certain someone. Love the chemistry of Michelle and Lia, great duo!
@@solaire2271 agreed👍🏻👍🏻
3:16 Lia: "Oh okay, Mama did it...he is normal now." 😂💀
You asked if there are people like Forrest. and I can tell you there are. I have ab autistic daughter and an autistic son and despite all the hardships, I feel blessed to be their Father because it's a privilege to take care of two of the purest human beings I have ever known. Every moment I spend with them it has been like a preview to heaven because they are perfect in every single way
Michelle was exactly correct by saying - running helps clean your pain away.
I used to do 5km runs everyday it definitely makes you feel a whole lot better afterward, except if you are bitten by a dog which I was once while running. I was so obsessed with beating my stop watch I kept running even though my ankle was bleeding. lol
Yep, not only is Michelle gorgeous but she's really smart. Running to make the pain go away. Not many people truly understand that concept.
They were mad that Jenny didn't contact him earlier to tell him he had a son. But how could she when he was running across the country. As soon as he got home to his place of residence she did.
Trivia: Tom Hank's accent because he imitated the boy actor that played Forrest as a boy
“I want to go home” - that lines still breaks my heart nearly thirty years later

It is all about personal choice. We can all choose, with each decision we make, how to live our lives.
Lovely movie.
Such a beautiful masterpiece of a movie. Timeless and touching EVERY time 🥰🥰🥰
I think Jenny was the second most important person in the movie.
Such a great film.
forest always did the right thing. the world needs more people like him
Thanks for sharing your experience, girls!

You need a somewhat decent understanding of American mid century history and pop culture to fully appreciate this movie. One of the greats.
The main theme is Destiny/Destination.
Forrest said he ran to to get to where he was going - a destination.
Jenny is always running away from something - no destination.
Both of their journeys are like the feather in the wind, not knowing where they'll ultimately end up.

I love seeing young people discover this movie. It is so good and heartfelt. I saw it so many times in the theater in the 90s when it came out.
If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/Or-sIiNANYg/v-deo.html
If you don't check it out, no worries at all!

"Now that's Lieutenant Dan... Lieutenant Dan!"
great reaction such a great movie i pick up on something new every time i watch it. theres so many little things especially with Lt.
There are two thing one never does 1) Kill John Wick's dog, and 2) hit Jenny
Great job, ladies.
Tom Hanks in "Philadelphia" is very different but equally powerful.
If they want to watch another its more about heart than brains underdog makes good story they should watch "Rocky".
Great point
She didn't think she didn't deserve Forrest. Forrest was just her friend, not more. Her man was someone who was like her father.

"Yeeeeees, he afford himself to buy some legs." One of the funniest sentences I've ever heard. I truly cried laughing 😂😂😂. Thank you ladies, I love your channel.
"A peace and war carnival" will join my vocabulary.
This movie was filmed close to my town here at savannah Georgia United States!
I can tell when people are going to cry to this movie in a reaction within the first 5 minutes 😂
Yes, he DID need those things on his legs. Without them he never could have started running.
I love lia's observation "he's normal now..." totally deadpanned.
The book was written as a satire of American society, making fun of how too many people make life way more complicated than it actually is, I think it’s genius, my dad a army infantry veteran absolutely loved it, he’s a squad leader and he had a soldier from Georgia, a big strong farm boy, who just crushed it in the army, never complained, never talked about politics, etc just gave his best and was allways super respectful to everyone, didn’t talk much, so this reminded me of my dad telling me this
51:40 So that’s why you called him 🤣😂😂😂
You guys should watch Big Fish, same mix of humor and emotion. I think you guys will love that one too.
I always love the Fruit Company joke about Apple especially since it wasn’t that massive of a deal back when the movie was made. If you would’ve invested after leaving the movie theater you’d be a millionaire now.
In case anyone is wondering - OCS= Officer Candidate School. It's where enlisted soldiers go to become commissioned officers. FNGs= Fuc_ing New Guys.
fun fact, that feather when floating in the air was done in a computer and took around 90 hours to render fully with a full room of computers doing it.
I don't know how Lia spells her name so I apologize for that but glad to see more of her!
It's funny the way you two use the word "cute" lol. Great movie and reaction!
I just realized you’re holding hands and I’m bawling 😭 ❤️ that’s the sweetest
She didn't love him. She didn't even take him as a man.
I think that’s a great analysis
Excuses.
Please don't miss Good Will Hunting another great 90's movie
I went to a barber and asked for a haircut like Matt Damon from Good WIll Hunting, the barber was like "I don't know that movie" lol
That's all I have to say about that."
30:31 - The problem is the context: Forrest, being a war hero, was associated with the right-winged government policy and he just beat up a peace activist in a place where everybody was angry at the government.
@@jeffburnham6611 Well, taking the reservation part out of it, that's what it is
This movie came out when I was 12, and I liked it then.
This Movie is one of the Best Movies I've ever saw!!
I also had my Jenie. It was my first love, a platonic love since I was 10 years old. When I was 16 I enlisted in the paratroopers... Some time later I went back to look for her. He had died of a heroin overdose. I couldn't save her...
girl on the left is literally one of the prettiest girls i have ever seen. holy fuck
i know right
Agreed.
All day homie
I like that she doesn’t interrupt people and has a super chill vibe
7:32 after a year of wearing braces on his legs.....and having to fight against them each time he took a step, his legs strengthened significantly
45:58 Lia: "I'm so happy for them"..... Two Seconds Later.....
This is best movie ever. True masterpiece. You will cry, you will lought, there is everything.
really sad for jennie. and i understand how she's difficult to understand but i totally get how and why she reacts to situations.
