I was 14 and at muirlands jr high in 1979. Good times in LJ growing up!!!
Thanks Jim, for rare footage of me surfing Windansea.
I was one of those Kooks out there fetching the leftovers. I was always respectful of the locals, so I didn't get into too much trouble -- after awhile they recognize you as someone who is respectful and they'll throw you an occasional bone. It was a great place to be a teenager in the 70's.
Howdy brother yeah I was there back in the mid seventies I live right above the slides my brothers used to skate at charcoal bowl we were we were from Laguna so la Jolla was just like home I totally get it Southern California is over run protect what's yours the Citrus is gone the avocados are on the way out but I remember it classic la Jolla brother oh man I wonder where all my old buddies are at now over and out . . I got to do Bird Rock p.b. point and North la Jolla I was real lucky
One of the coolest places to grow up! 1961 - 1980 and I still visit family there...although now all the family shops are gone and tourists are more then plentiful it still is a beautiful place :) Great memories...thank you for sharing :)
1:50. There was a bumper sticker back then that said: “THERE IS NO LIFE EAST OF I5”
Lived on Bonair. Graduated in ‘77; thanks for this it’s epic
Ginna Busey Arnold-Lazar Tyrian street
I was there at windansea beach a long time a go 1956 and looking the videos from la jolla and surfers its some thing to remember.
great place nice vewes.
That was my life but I went to Marine St. where you get tubed every ride shore break ground and pound. Love your videos I’ve been going to Marine St. since 1970 I grew up east of I 5 oh well. We were at Marine St. everyday for about 4years smoke pot and than go to la Mars liquor up the street and get some beer Taco Bell across the Street 😎👍 I have a Windansea video of me getting tubed on my channel. I was in the water last week 62 years old getting tubed and pounded 😎👍
Taco Bell there was the best!
Thanks for sharing this Jim. Really brings back memories. I woke up this morning dreaming about Windansea and Jon Serratt (who I haven't seen since 70's Kauai) and find your film.
Sabrina (Osment) Berry
That was really cool.
Classic. A byegone era.
James Weaver, last post four years ago - still alive?
Yeah! I was down at Windansea 2 weeks ago for Buzz Sipes paddle-out. Course I didn't paddle out! I'm writing a lawyer novel now dealing with a dysfunctional rich family in the Village--which family, you ask?--too many to chose from!
My first board was an AJ . Best board was a Brown board built by a guy who made them in his garage. last board was Gordon And Smith.
I was there HaHa...What great times.. Seems like yesterday that I was waxing up my 6'8" Infinity winged pin (single fin), heart pounding out of my chest, getting ready to paddle out at 6'-8' Big Rock. Great video
RIP BA
Classic Soul Arch from Big Rock legend Joe Roper. It's nice to see what it all looked like back then.
One thing I notice is the amount of sand that those beaches have lost. Boomers is all smooth, slippery boulders, these days. I realize that you lost a spot... but it's a pretty funky wave - even for bodysurfing. On a shortboard it makes 0 sense. It is nice to have a couple of bodysurfing "preserves", in California where you can practice the art without having to compete in a board riders arms race...
There's sand at boomers in this film, because it was shot during the summer. During the winter with the north swells, there's rocks.
Hans Newman was a knee boarder?
This is really cool. Do you have Any footage of Barry Greenslate ? He was there. He ended up loosing one of his legs above the knee a few years back and misses surfing deeply. He would be stoked if you had any footage of him. Not sure.
Yeah that punk Scott Cherry! Tried to drop in on me at Simmons! I grabbed the nose of his board! Pushed him back that punk!
Yeah yeah yep
It's nice to hear you know the truth about Boomers, I went to the city counsel meeting trying to fight the new law, but in the end, they only listened to the local bodysurfing "lifeguards" Thanks for the cool video!
Marty McSuperFly! That's for sure but it doesn't spot me went it's really good, though I've received a few citations of the years!
I hate the windansea surf club! My friend lived right up the street!
It is called "acting," and neither Chris nor the others wrote the script.
1 windansea punk had a whistle!!!!!!!
