Vararam works best while driving. A dyno won’t show its true gains. Also the small dip in the dyno graph is your secondaries in your intake manifold opening.
Here is my Number4 concern, and a number 5 fix it. 4)The reason for changing the assembly- regardless of brand - is to increase some HP and improve MPG. no matter what the gain - how many square inches of A/C condenser and Radiator Have you blocked off? I think that alone would cause me to skip this system. It to me looks like 6 inches or so that it drops down times the width ( approx. 24?) = 144 square .inches? A/C & Cooling system works harder while towing for some HP? The K&N 63 Series is rated to ad 15HP. Does It - I do not know, but it will not possibly cause heat issues, or at the least, added stress to two other systems. 5) simply take the cosmetic cover and trim it to clear, to clear the Ram air system. Great video though. Now that I saw it installed I will finish the video to see what happens. If you did not gain the 15HP K&N Here I come Sorry had to come back. There should be a large fan blower at the grill!!!! HOOD CLOSED!!!!! With the hood open you ARE NOT testing it as it would be used, Air being forced through grill to throttle body. It is just grabbing the air even from above the engine , over the fenders ETC. Stock system done the same way.
@Jerry Horn Thanks for the feedback, and for watching the whole video. Real quick on the hood open vs closed. I agree the system should work better with the hood closed and air flow from a fan to simulate driving conditions. The reason I decided on the hood open is because thats how I tested the stock and aFe systems. So I wanted to keep as many things the same as possible. Even though the other intakes are self enclosed, I figured the air flow should be the same. If I saw gains that way, then I know it will get more while driving. Covering up the A/C condenser and radiator is a bit weird. But I haven't seen anyone have problems with it. A good test for that would be a towing with A/C on vs. A/C off. To see if that makes a difference. So far I've driven it all over northern Nevada and California with no issues. I don't tow much but I do load up the bed pretty good. I'll post up any updates if I run into problems. Thanks again!

Yeah that does make better sense. Lol
Haven't heard of this works with the radiator shutters ? I have the shutters will it still work?
@Goldwingrocks I wish I could answer that for you, but I don't know. All I can say is that when I ordered the kit, there wasn't any mention of the shutters or options for a different kit for the shutters. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.
The shuters are there to improve aerodynamic performance in order to reduce fuel consumption of the truck when the conditions are right. I’m sure there’s no issues.
@@marlonpatriz8070 that varram intake is mainly sucking hot air from under the hood any time the grill shutters are closed.
With them open he’s getting cool outside air.
@@marlonpatriz8070😂, yes a flat door is aerodynamic, which is exactly what the shutters are. And I'm really wondering, please tell me just how much fuel is saved by having more garbage on your truck? I could save more fuel by taking off slower ... I could save more fuel by taking my loaded toolbox off of my truck. If I was worried about saving next to 0 fuel usage.... I wouldn't buy a V8 pickup truck.😂 And how much did the price tag of the truck go up because of that garbage? My 2012 didn't come with that garbage.
Did you do any of these tests on the same day? If not test results are seriously skewed
Didn't read the other comments but what the dyno can't produce is running down the road is where it works,I don't waste money on dynos I go to the drag strip, almost 2 tenths comparing da and all that v Ararat wins
@davidchristy8765 People have brought up the fact that the Vararam performs better on the road with air flow. But I wanted to keep all the variables the same for all 3 test. Even then, the Vararam out performed the other intakes. So with air flow, it's even better. Thanks for the comment. I hope this helps clarified my thought process.
They said HP... not RWHP....
Why the cold start? Did you think you was gonna make the cat back guys jealous? Lol jk.
😆😆😆
It should show a print all the way around to show that its seated properly, yours is not, You are definitely sucking up hot engine air
@Austin Winters Thanks for the tip. I went and adjusted it. I can see a small imprint now.
Then just fabricate it to what satisfy your wants, if you feel that it looks cheap.
😂😂😂
So nothing
RAM AIR FLOW IS 100% BETTER…..
@martys4814 Really? I almost went with that instead of the Vararam, but it's so expensive. I was worries it wouldn't be worth it. But I do like the look of the Ram Air Flow more than the Vararam.
The Mopar version is bad ass looking... But none of these make a difference even going down the road . I have a road test video on this.. running 2 times both directions all avged the same exact get and mph with a dragy
If you care THAT much about plastic engine covers under the hood, you probably shouldn't own a truck.
Chill out Taco guy
What about changing the muffler too?
@I dont care Sapo For sure exhaust is next.
