This setup should make more power than any other since airflow loves to take a direct line. Would be nice to see numbers back up the theory! Also it looks great!
Blocks oil fill, keep in mind heat rises from engine heat soaking bottom of intake and that front deflector plate blocks top fins of radiator from air flow. Another thing to add from my experience is not the best seal between hood to rubber gasket they provide. It is sealing on fiberglass hood insulator so sucking alot of heat from top of hood side as well. Looks nice but i feel i will be replacing
Would be nice to get an update of how driving with the new air intake feels if any difference at all.
yes and make sure the pipe clamp is still tight....LOL
I'm not sure if i would leave the deflector on blocking part of the radiator. Also i think it would be a good idea to fab a hose to the intake hose for PCV. Theres no problem with venting to atmosphere, but like someone else said, a little vacume is helpful.
Super cool look. Not sure I'm a big fan of no more positive crankcase ventilation. The slight vacuum does help maintain good piston ring seal and oil ring control.
I have a 2019 Classic Warlock, has the "Plain Jane" type shroud, might have to get the RAM piece. I think you are right on the flow, etc.
That’s pretty cool and I like the orange. It’s also half the price of the Ram Airflow. Now I have a decision to make. Thank you for the video.
Greg, I am in the same boat as you. Which one did you decide to go with?
@@gingerbeardman73 When I do upgrade I'll definitely go with the orange.
If it was a charger or a challenger I would say use the orange cover because it looks like it belongs on a muscle car. But since it’s a truck I would say one of the black covers would look better.
Best video of install and details surrounding it that I've watched pertaining to this intake system!
There is a considerable difference when you accelerated between stock and after market. It was quieter with the new intake when it was idling, but when you gave it gas, it growled kind of making it into a "sleeper" in some effect with the other additions you've added or will be adding. A larger TB would really maximize it. I have a 2012, so i wonder if my radiator shroud is designed/shaped the same way as yours so i wouldn't have to trim mine either? I watched a video where the owner did cut his. It may even have made it more efficient with that smaller gap between the shroud left untrimmed forcing the air into the receiving plane?!
I have a black Ram so I'm going with the Hemi Orange to make it pop with some personality and give it contrast. It looks good on your Rebel yet the black option would also look good too! Thank-you and I'm now a subscriber!
Sounds great! Would like to have seen textured cover after install to compare.
Be sure to cut that housing by the radiator it caused my truck to over heat I trimmed a lot of it and the truck runs and sounds great now
Mine gets full of snow in the winter, i wish they would offer a silicone sleeve to wrap around the filter
Bummer! I never had that issue but I have seen a few photos on the groups with folks who had some build up.
looks awesome, and seems well reviewed, but i've always wondered how it wouldn't heatsoak from the radiator with air flowing over that metal fin
I haven’t seen any negative issues like that reported and I’m willing to bet this is one of the more popular intakes. You can probably give Vararam a call to ask about air flows.
It looks awesome but it looks heavy. You probably picked up 3 horsepower and lost it right back in weight. Wish there was a way to just make the stock brake louder. My Silverado I got the air raid tube that eliminated the silencer box. Best mod I did to it
I would do matched body colour!
NICE TNKS I GOTTA GET THAT FOR MY 13 RAM R/T SHORT BED. I ALREADY LOWERED IT AND PUT THE PISTOL GRIP SHIFTER IN IT.
Cool video. Im surprised at the big difference in sound. Im sure with a tune, it's gonna make a big difference.
Love the look and sound. The orange cover is great. Would be nicer with some decals.
At the time I though a roadrunner on the cover would look cool
Keep the orange bro...if your looking for an exhaust go with a Carven progressive... I just installed mine on my 2012 ram and I get so many people asking me what kind is it and that its sounds amazing..
jerryhdzNtexas thanks! I installed a Kooks catback system a few weeks ago.
great video. any cooling/over heating issues? a little concerning they designed a unit to divert air away from the radiator... buh def sick design and look... nd the sound WOW
Nope and never heard of anyone having issues with overheating while running the vararam.
looks awesome! go with the hemi orange! i just bought one for my 2021 ram rebel🤪
So you can leave the engine cover on and also get a shutter delete behind grill
The only thing im hesitant about is disconecting the pcv and venting it to atmosphere versus putting another hole in the coupler. As I was aware that both crank and valve cover need to be vented the same way, i.e. both to atmosphere or both to the intake
Nicely done bud just came across your video how has the vaaram been working? I'm undecided if going through the vaaram route or the OEM Ram Air Flow route🤔
Oem is $$$$$$
Looks great , sounds great , my question is do you have to take it apart when adding oil at oil changes ?
Nope I used a longer funnel
Wouldn’t swapping the OEM intake with this one ultimately affect the warranty, especially since I foresee an overheating issue in your future. Also, that air temp sensor installation looks iffy at best. That being said, good video on the installation and the look is definitely nostalgic.
Any aftermarket part will void a part of your warranty if that part is the reason for a failure. That’s the risk we all take modifying our trucks.
That said, I’m not concerned about it. This intake has been around a while and it’s not to much different from Mopars version.
Keep the orange. Also would that rebel cover fit on a 2013 ram 1500 with some modification? I think that adds to the look
That little front flap seems like it would cause some over heating issues because its blocking some of the rad, Also the AC condenser.
Texas 12valve no issues yet. I’ll report back if I do. This is a pretty common intake in the ram world and haven’t heard any issues from of overheating.
@@WaterFowler41 thank you. I just moved from my old diesel to a 17 ram 1500 so I'm still learning all the after market for it
That's what I thought.
When I heard the sound difference with the intake "Holy Sh*t" actually came out of my mouth! I am looking at ordering a 2021 Laredo Sport edition from the factory and this baby will be going on in orange as soon as I get it home!!! then a cat back, probably not going to do headers, just love the sound. Going to go find out what kind of exhaust you installed now. I hope the link is an affiliate link as I will come back and use it when I am ready to order. EDIT: Link to Vararam is not working. EDIT #2: Just called them to get pricing and info about fitting on a 2021 (they have not had a chance to try it yet on one but will work with me if they have not gotten a hold of one by that point) anyway I name dropped your channel to them :) This thing is so reasonably priced as well!!!
Awesome man! Thanks so much appreciate the update. Good luck with your truck project!
I just put in a K&N filter into my stock box and works just fine...
RAM-1500 KING OF TRUCKS yup, that’s an option too
Same here
I have this filter on my 17 ram. I’m very happy with it.
Do u have the active grill? If yes doesn’t it affect it. How about when u need oil do u have to take it all off? Doesn’t it affect the air flow into the rad? Thanks. I have a 17 sport.
@@peteesramchannel416disalvo9 I deleted my active grill shutters completely. That way the wind is a direct hit to the intake.. I definitely felt that the ags was depleting the intake from its full potential
Could u do a review after a month of running this
Really nice video and this thing sounds sweet. Am thinking of getting one for my 17 Ram 1500 Sport with brand new 2 1/4” duals with an X pipe 18” glasspack muffler combo system going into 5” Carven tips.
Go for it!
Probably too late now but I like the orange.
These things look amazing but do absolutely nothing to increase any performance. in fact I believe they decrease in performance a little bit that's why there are no dyno tests published.
Great vid, buddy! I really like the Orange..
Are you enjoying this? I have been trying to pick a cai.
I really was interested in this but in my location we get a lot of powdered snow fall and from what I heard that will effect the filter
From the looks of it that front wing covers a majority of the trans cooler. Wondering if that effects the temps especially when towing? 🤔
I monitored my temps on a couple of long road trips, no temp concerns from my end!
My only concern is the amount of air being blocked from the radiator, and A/C condenser. Have you noticed any increase in coolant temperature on hot days?
When I ran this intake, I did not have any issues with heating.
Stay with the Orange cover. 🇨🇦👍🏼
Just added one on My 15 sport so far so good And increase in fuel mileage but other U tube videos show a lot of dust getting in how about yours and did you put more oil on it
Great video. Go with the orange
Aren’t you concerned about the air dampers that close that are on the newer model rams, would not affect the flow of air that you need for this intake to work?
Nope, tons running the same set up and no issues.
Love the orange. What is the pricing on this?
Link in the description my man!
That sounds sick. I was impressed.
Yeah but what about when your active grille shutters close?won't that effect air flow
I saw no negative side affects when I ran this intake
Hi great video, will the engine run a little hotter ? oh I ordered the paintable one so i can paint match it to my Rebel. Thanks
When I ran this intake, I didn’t notice anything out of the norm for engine temps
ok thanks just wondering about sitting in traffic.
Sounds and looks amazing
I'm curious - Do you think it would be beneficial to bend the bottom 1 - 2 inches of the piece that goes in front of the radiator up a bit? Would the 'ramp effect' help in deflecting more air towards the filter? Asking because I have a Vararam on order for my 2018 Ram 1500 Express. Should be arriving in a few weeks.
I’m not sure it might help but I doubt you’d feel a difference.
were can i get one for my 2019 rebel new body style? love that orange, also im in minnesota safe to this in the cold winters?
Moe's Performance
Definitely go with the orange 🍊
Have you noticed any difference in temps now that you covered up part of the radiator? Always been curious about that before I buy one. Thanks.
I wondered the same thing
My thoughts exactly, especially during summer months and driving through the mtns. Not sure if I would ever want to block airflow to the radiator.
When I ran this intake, I did not have any issues with overheating nor have I heard of anything in the forums saying others have seen temp spikes.
Now under normal driving it’s a non issue but if you are pushing the engine in extreme temps, it might come into play. My experience is on mostly flat roads in the Midwest.
Since you left the RAM cover on, how has been running?
Truck ran fine with the cover on but I no longer own this truck. Moved on to a Raptor.
can i use this or the ram air flow when using a catch can
Can you still access dip stick and oil filter cap or does the whole thing need removed to change oil?
Yup! I use a funnel for oil fill. Dipstick is easy access as well
Awesome, thanks!
No difference the 4th gen and 5th gen, same exact part correct? I am about to order. Thanks
I’m not sure, I contacted Vararam when i ordered
Where did you buy/order? I’m looking for one like this.
You can pick one up from Vararam directly or at Moe's Performance.
Hello WF 41, thanks again for all you great videos. I have an exactly similar Ram Rebel as you, and I am looking forward to installing my vararam air-grabber. I just read a forum that it is horrible in snow though. What are you thoughts? I thought I may be able to install a grill snow filter for the winter (we live up in Lake Tahoe area). Here is a photo from the blog I read: oops, I cannot attached photos - here is a the link (scroll down to forum contribution #58 - about half way down). Cheers and happy Friday!
I live in the Midwest and we get crazy snow, never had an issue with the intake.
Thanks so much for watching my channel!!!
I just bought this bug screen, hoping that it will limit the amount of snow entering into the system. :)
@@WaterFowler41 Super, thanks! My favorite past time nowadays, in between conference calls. Thanks again for spending the time recording what you are doing. Cheers, M.
Have a great weekend and good luck with your truck!
Like the orange.
That is soo fucking cool love the look and im sure your getting much more hp and flow
does that wing that sits in front of the radiator not block airflow going through it? i feel like it would and could cause an engine temp problem.
Brandon Sessions air can still get up the back of the wing too. Same question was asked on the forum, no ones had issues
Water Fowler 41 can you post a side shot on your post in the ram grpup?
Brandon Sessions I thought I had a pic but I guess not, next time I’m under the hood I’ll grab one.
Hemi orange for sure
You might have already answer this, but what exactly did you prop up with a stick? And any issues with cover back on? Thanks in advance
The hockey stick piece was used to prop up the radiator fan shroud so there was enough clearance for air to move up the front flat of the vararam to the filter. Without the “spacer” the fan shroud blocks airflow, hence the reason the instructions recommend cutting the shroud
Looks insane but pain in the ass to do a oil change with that sitting ontop of the fill
I use a long funnel, never had an issue
I installed one on my 2011 right after buying it new It added some significant ponies. I'm very satisfied
Bob Calgary Canada I couldn’t be happier with mine!
How often should the filter be replaced?
I’d just clean it every oil change
Seems to cover a lot of the radiator. Not sure how I feel about that
I didn't have any issues with the kit.
Have you noticed a horse power increase? Better fuel economy?
how much extra power did you make, and how loud is it ?
XVSNIPER1VX maybe a little? But I’m hoping one day to get the truck on a dyno and see where I land. Until then, going to ride out my warranty.
@@WaterFowler41 yeah, I'm planning on putting a super on mine but I'm waiting for the warranty too lol
Have you noticed any change in temps with plastic hanging down over the radiator?
In the time I ran this intake I watched temps pretty closely. Never say a difference between Pre/post intake installation.
With the Active Shudders and hood seal these would benefit from a Functional air Grabber hood obviously. Did you leave hood seal installed?
I have a 5.7 hemi in a 1982 d150 would this work?
Doubtful as this requires the radiator to hold up the front of the air diverter
Did you feel a increase in horse power and how about the mpg on the truck did it get better
Orange for sure!!!!
Can someone tell me how this keeps dirt and moisture from entering inside?
The filter stops the dirt just like your factory intake would and because of where the filter is located, it’s pretty difficult for moisture to make its way to it. However if it does, there are drain holes in the filter pan.
@@WaterFowler41 Thanks I really appreciate the reply.
you know what top you should go with? the one you give me. LOL.
Nice truck man! I want the vararam but the whole cutting the shroud on a new truck doesnt sit right with me
IvanShotThis just like in the video I have the shroud propped up on top and haven’t cut it yet and all seems to be functioning fine. I say go with it!!
I didn’t see that until the end of your vid! I’m definitely going with the vararam now . Now just to pick and choose witch worthless throttle body spacer I’m going with
Keep the orange... I was wondering if you were going to let us hear the vehicle.
Sounds clips are at the end!
Tried to order on ebay but says it wont fit 2020. I dont think there is any difference in the 2019 and 2020???
John Wightman my Rebel is a 2020 so it for sure fits!
Oil changes will be a pain to get to
Longer fill neck on the funnel makes it pretty easy.
what are your thoughts for access to the oil filler, especially if the dealer does the changes? Will the unit have to be removed? I suspect the dealer won't want to do that. I have 2 more coupons for oil changes before I start doing my own so that's why I ask!
Access is very easy with an extended oil funnel. Plenty of room under the intake with it still on.
Do you think this setup would work with the eTorque?
Yup!
Check on this as I am not sure if the 48v Generator would be in the way, may have to mod it? the e-torq looks like it sits up pretty high (unless Water Fowler 41 has info I do not have and I am wrong)
Vararam verified fitment
You can hear it gulping air.... lol!!! Stick with the orange!!!
2020 truck but only 480p video? WTF haha. Good video though man, looks and sounds good! My vote is textured black! Orange comes in 2nd.
Tony The Truck Guy I accept donations for a new MacBook!!
Hows it been? Does it affect temperatures at all being it covers the radiator a little bit. Do you know if it will work with the etorque?
Wondering this also
I'm not sure about compatibility with etorque, Id reach out to Vararam.
In the time I ran the intake, I never had overheating issues.
Did you ever get to modifying the shroud? @Water Fowler 41
Negative, when I ran this intake, the factory unmodified shroud worked great!
@@WaterFowler41 one other question, have you thought about removing the12" x 1/2" thick piece of plastic on top of the radiator, that the RAM shroud rested on, so that the veraram dropped down and was more even on the front side, instead of having that slight rise?
That would block airflow and impact performance especially on long drives. I personally would run the spacer or trim the shroud
@@WaterFowler41 you talking about airflow to the radiator or to the Veraram? the pc I'm referring to, is --> photos.app.goo.gl/HmJXq5ZVBsnAhpRs7 (screenshot from your video).. I was thinking it should give you more airflow between the shroud and the base of the Veraram..looking at it on my truck, it seems like that pc is only there to keep the shroud from flexing down onto the top of the radiator, and if I put the veraram on, i wouldn't really need it anymore since the shroud would be resting on top of the Veraram itself. just trying to understand everything before i install mine tonight :P
Ahhh I see, yeah I think you’re correct!
Do you need to remove it change the oil? It covers the oil cap.
Nope I use a funnel to fill oil and never had an issue.
How big is that block piece you put in to prop up the ram cover I am doing my vararam install very shortly.
It’s a piece of a hockey stick so 1.5” wide I think?
Does that fit with the E torque
It should but I would verify
Can I do this to a 2015 1500?
They make a kit for the older rams
love the video dude but please replace potato 480p
Doing the best with the equipment I have
@@WaterFowler41 makes sense, next phone upgrade maybe? Thanks for response.
Will this mount onto my 2017 Rebel?
Yeah make sure you get the intake for your year truck
@@WaterFowler41 now that you had it on the truck for a while. Has your opinions changed about it. Do you wish you bought a different style intake?
@@dennismillus4581 long story short I ended up trading this intake for a kayak when covid got bad. The intake was great, but I needed something to keep me sane so I picked up kayak bass fishing. Stay tuned though on my channel got some new parts on the way!
How about performance?
Looks great but blocks a lot of air to the rad and condenser. Is no one else seeing this?
Haven’t heard of anyone having any issues with their vararam and they’ve been around for a while
Hi. I love the intake and just installed mine. After my install and reconnecting my battery. My radio and Uconnnect apps are gone, my reverse cam is also not working. Did that happen to you?
Nope that did not happen to me, have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting? Maybe a computer hiccup
Give it a few mins. The newer mopar does that while it resets the canbus. It’ll come back in a couple of minutes.
that sounds fantastic! Thanks for this I think I might get one. Definitely the hemi orange!
Awesome! I follow your builds on Instagram! Absolutely loving how the Rebel is looking.
@@WaterFowler41 thank you bro! All the best
It looks like you dont have etourqe. Do you think that this will work with the 5.7 etorque ram?
Comics Armory I believe the answer is yes but I would reach out to vararam to confirm.
That sounds gnarly
Those things look great but they do not gain any horsepower or torque
Sometimes I just want to have the baddest sounding Rebel at Costco on the weekends....
@@WaterFowler41 This!!!
Just ordered one ....Hemi Orange :)
Chris CapeCharles awesome choice! I’m considering adding the Coyote Duster sticker to the top for some extra nostalgia.
@@WaterFowler41 Hey they claim an extra mpg or 2 per gallon. Have you seen any truth to that?
Kevin Bustamante I haven’t seen any mileage improvements. That’s probably because I’m pretty heavy in the gas pedal now. I like the sound of my truck.
How do you like the intake 7 months in?
Full transparency, I returned the truck to stock. I had an opportunity to pick up a kayak so it was a clean trade.
That said, this is an awesome intake and by far one of the best looking ones on the market. As far as performance I think all aftermarket intakes perform about the same with no tuning. This intake had a different sound compared to the stock and the tube style intakes.
Overall I was not disappointed in this intake. Great buy for these hemi's. With Covid hitting at the beginning of the summer, the opportunity to grab a fishing kayak forced my hand.
@@WaterFowler41 Thanks for the update, much appreciated.
@@epicfailureDFW sure thing! Good luck with your truck!
