Put down landscape fabric in there before the plants. Less junk to clog the pipes.
rubbish.....roots will go through weed mat plus it will rot after a few years.....there is nothing that can be done to stop roots from shrubs/trees and or soil/silt from going into the drain pipes......
I came here just to say that…
Use landscape fabric to create a barrier that prevents the soil from clogging up the planter drain tubes.
Hi Andy, as others have said you can reduce the flex in the walkway if you sister it with another board such as a 2"x8", but, that solution could be improved if you sandwiched a steel plate inbetween your beam and 2"x8". works a bit like a steel I-beam and should resist more flex in the walkway. Thanks for the videos!
Very compassionate kids you've got there. Great job Dad!
If you want to keep the look of that span you could sister some 2x8’s to the back of that reclaimed timber beam to strengthen it and add solid blocking more closely spaced together to help reduce the bounce. You can also add another t-support on the far end near the deck which effectively reduces the span another foot or so to maintain the look. Personally I would add more blocking in and live with some bounce to maintain the look. Cheers.
Andy, my only comment (as an armchair contractor) is I would have left copper tubing long, slipped a rubber tubing over it so it weeped away from flower pot wall, and cut it at a 45 angle (sand papered edge for sharpness. Minor nit picking but just a thought. Otherwise, your one of my woodworking idols. Jeff
Got some first generation Trex that’s about 19 years old and needs replacing next summer, might see how Thermory holds up in the Pacific NW
I agree with stump ideas. You could do some creative carving to make a nome or mouse house. Seeing your young one on your lap so he could steer brings back memories of me and my dad.
Wow amazing. Great place to bring the family together.
Btw, the Tundra start function is actually a switch, so you don’t have to hold the key to start it. So when your sim starts the truck, there’s no worry of him holding it too long and cranking out the starter.
Keep it up!
Andy the deck is looking great
You can see the flex in the walkway at the end of the trimming the boards clip as you stand up and walk away. A central support will take that flew away or a steel "I" beam running down the center of the walkway.
Looks fantastic!
Andy, I'd be a bit concerned that the weepholes of the planter weep onto the deck. Maybe one hole at the front facing end would be better.
you can also use planter fabric at the bottom of the planter to avoid the weep pipes being clogged.
The deck looks great.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’m a little concerned about the deck as well
Decking is looking great. I'd definitely get a battery powered plunge saw though if I were doing this type of work more often (that wire was getting a little close to the blade there lol)
A battery powered would be nice!!
That's a great looking deck, dude. I came here to say that I second/third/fourth comments to add a post/beam on a footing under your flexing deck section as you were explaining. Don't sister boards behind it - you'll only delay the inevitable. That said, I've dug holes in Texas Hill Country and I don't envy you even one bit.
The deck is looking great
Thank you for sharing
Looking beautiful.
Good progress, Andy.
Bill
Looking really good. Keep pushing these videos out. Love it. You can go a bit longer too.
Those windows, are, super reflecty probably look like a clear pathway at flight speed.
I wonder if you can stop that by breaking up the solid reflection. Maybe hang some blinds inside, or put some lattice outside?
Just think of how excited the kids will be putting in bird safeties☺️
That guy does nice work
Hey Andy, put down some of that black landscape fabric over your rock layer in the planter before you add in the soil. Don’t get the cheap stuff from box store, go to a legit landscaping nursery for the good stuff. This will help keep the soil up out of the rocks.
You need filter cloth between the soil and stones to prevent them getting clogged with soil
Put a sponge over the whole under the rocks to act like a filter. Looks great.
Lookin good.
great video series Andy. I bet you have some Thermary boards leftover. How about building some furniture with it? love to see what you would come up with
We’re already talking about making some furniture from it!
beam thickness is the span in mm divided by 20 plus 20 mm and that is the required depth of a 2 inch timber
nice
Andy, what if you put an oak stump as the middle support of the long span walkway?
😅😢poor birdie, your little girl looks a little bit upset and once the bird was buried I couldn't help but laugh at the way the children were. Would you like to say a prayer for the bird? Nah not really going from one child to the next same thing 😮😂. If there's anything we can rely on it's our children alway's saying something we least expect!. As for the decking Andy it's certainly starting to take shape and the wood is as you said fantastic product from what we can see!!!. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
This is going to sound odd but they reminded me of when one of my pair of cats died. The cat left behind was clearly bereft when I brought home the body of his partner for burial gave her a sad sniff, but as soon as she was in the ground he walked off almost as though it never happened. A lesson for us all in how to mourn I thought.
Andy I learned to drive on my daddy's knee just like your boy. It was more than sixty years ago and I grew up to be a London bus driver, you know the big ol' red ones? I was a little girl though, so my daddy was ahead of his time and I was only the second female driver on London Transport as it was then.😊👍
the concrete planter will sadly have the drainage holes plugged with roots if you plant a shrub or small tree....The soil and silt will also migrate into the pipe as well.
If you wanted to plant shrubs and trees, vege's / herbs or even potted colour for that fact, the planter should have been left open to the bottom [the natural topsoil]...so the roots would have been able to get into the natural topsoil and the water would have also been able to drain freely...
Your cross bracing looks great. By the way it’s called cross bracing. Because of it, you may only need a post under the beam. No need to over engineer it. Really nice work.
Ps. Don’t toss that track saw track.😮
Right! I saw him toss that track on the rocky ground, and I thought, damn, dude, take better care of your tools!
Did you seal the beam to protect it from moisture?
I haven’t yet but I plan on it. Texas hasn’t seen rain in like 4 months!
@@AndyRawls worth a shot, my mother does that to all her potted plants, helps hold on moister and keeps the dirt in.
Wrong reply. Woops. I was wondering if sealing it before putting the boards on would be good to seal it all up. Awesome beam, man. So much character. I can’t remember did you put that seal tape along the top also?
It's really looking beautiful, Andy! You guys are killing it! 😃
About birds, what you need is a Maine Coon cat. Your daughter is never going to see another dead bird... Or alive for that matter. 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Good thing you didn't point out the secret headquarters, because then it wouldn't be secret and everyone would have the key. 11:22
Hi Andy, I'm sorry to say that I haven't seen your videos since you were about halfway through your Argos project.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video but I have a question, I'd like to support your channel by purchasing the t-shirt you were wearing there at the end of this video, but I can't find the link to order that t-shirt so if you could send that to me I would appreciate it😊
Great job done on your deck!
I believe that is the 10 year anniversary shirt 10 years 10 fingers

Thanks for tuning in and for the support!!!
Put some geotexile over your pies and under the stone ,pipes will never clog
Next planter just light the plywood form on fire. Kidding that may crack your concrete
