Hey Vince, you're just a couple hours away from me. You must be enjoying that enormous Gig pipe in Chattanooga. We're at 100Mbps here in Nashville until Google brings Gigabit to town (pending construction). I do a lot with the RT-N66U and RT-N68U running Tomato Firmware but I also like the AC87. QoS is just one of those things that can take time to dial in, so I'm glad to see that they added QoS into the GUI. It's not quite as granular as dd-wrt/Tomato but it works pretty well overall.
are you having any issues with this router? I have it but im not sure if i should keep this or go to the ac1900 wrt linksys or ac3200 netgear. any input?
Steve... were yo able to logon? I just installed my AC68U yesterday and have limited wifi.. certainly no better than the linsys that I replaced for lack of range and strength issues.. but I would like to get on my asus dashboard but can't logon... Any ideas? Thanks, Ken
Hey Vince, I'm having trouble getting into the Interface after typing router.asus.com / So my problem is that after i login, I get stuck on a page that says Searching,Please Wait. I can't access the interface. Any ideas on why?
Vince Cantrell Yeah I've entered that and I've entered the IP assigned to me but it just takes me to my ISP (Xfinity) page and not through ASUS. Any Ideas?
+DrinkDipSpit 2 things. 1. Before you got this router, did you have a different modem or gateway? If so, you have to activate your new modem on Xfinity's website. 2. Have you tried 192.168.2.1 ??
Stone McDaniel Hey thanks for getting back to me, I actually figured out the problem. I had a weird IP assigned to me so i did the factory reset and then I went through the internet setup wizard on the router interface page.
Hugh Jazz Power cycle your router. (Unplug it for 30 seconds than plug it back in.) If that doesn't work reboot to factory spec and reconfigure. Do you still have wifi on the 2.4GHz band even when the light is out?
I was deciding on this too as well at Best Buy, I was just about to buy the "tri-band" Nighthawk ac3200, when I asked the representative who literally knew his stuff on routers, he explained so well as to what you will expect based on my usage. I was actually going to decide ac3200 or the linsys WRT 1900ac. He recommended me to get this Asus RT-AC87R (Best Buy did not have it, but they ordered it for me). I went ahead and purchased it. I am literally tired of Netgear's lack of firmware updates for bugs, Linksys routers have been good for me and I never have had any problems but the ones I have are basic and old. The ASUS is something new I'm trying. I bought the 2-year Best Buy warrant with it, if I don't like it for even the most ridiculous reason, I can return and get any other brand equivalent of price or difference or new model.
the AC87U is actually in the best routers for 2018 according to CNet! And it still receives updates for the software. the App just came out in 2017. So JaysBeerz is freaking drunk. Don't return or waste your money. Ol technology he says? what is better than 5 GHz? Mesh ..but mesh software will be provided to a;; Asus routers soon enough. I pull a consistent 800 Mbps and that's 5000sq. ft. on Wi-Fi! Through Google 1000mb internet.
AC3200 is obviously better, it's ASUS's next gen, but i'ts not available until end of Q3 possibly Q4, and it will be $300. Realstically, even this 2400 is overkill, if you are using it at home. The best rating I've seen recently for any router is the ASUS AC1900. That's why I bought this AC2400, I'm just hoping it's at least as good as the 1900.
WOW so many comments below people don't know shit about routers. LMAO! The AC87U and AC3200 are full of bugs and junk at the moment. Go with the RT-AC68P at best buy.
Damn! the AC88U was sold out on Amazon at the time and now it's $345 instead of $275. That's why I went with the AC87U thinking it's been out longer so ASUS would have worked out all the firmware bugs.

Were your speeds that you put in the QOS while you were on wifi or connected? And do they need to be precise?
i gota question bro what ones better the asus 87u or asus ac3200
Can you use this as a wireless extender?
So how do I get to this page using the Ip address? If I type it in, I just go to my still connected router page.
i heard in the setings there is a xbox seting is there?
Is this available now ? if so where did you buy yours ? :) -- thanks
How do you login to it you said you was going to talk about it but you didnt. How do you access this page???

Howo re you getting DL speed's of 900+? and Up Load speeds of 800+? Here in Hawaii we can only get about 100 DL speeds and 5 upload...
1gb download speeds. here in uk max we can get is 200mb from only 1 supplier. The rest of the suppliers max out at about 80mb.
Thank you so much!
you don't do gaming with that connection? ;(
you would be the best call of duty player ever
can i access the dashboard without my password... i had to refresh my phone and i dont know my wifi password
U version wont support traffic analyse. Get the R version. My mistake was getting the R from best buy.
The AC-RT86u has bandwidth limiter function inside of guest network screen
what is the different between R and U models
notates what outlet is allowed to sell the router. Same router.

Have you tried accessing the router by IP? Typically 192.168.1.1 - I had a similar problem with the new Asus routers. That takes you directly in.
Vince Cantrell Yeah I've entered that and I've entered the IP assigned to me but it just takes me to my ISP (Xfinity) page and not through ASUS. Any Ideas?

Awesome! I'm glad you got it figured out!
Despacito! caramba...you must spend fortune to get that kind of speed?
Who is your ISP and what is your plan? Great speed!
EPB Fiber Optics, 1Gbps fiber unlimited, $70 a month.
Vince Cantrell Nice bro.
Vince Cantrell is there any tipe of tut or instructions showing how to set all of this up. All so how fast is it.
JayzBeerz My 2.4ghz wont light up only my 5ghz???? Help pls!

i am currently stuck between ac87u and the nighthawk ac3200

A quick question - does this have any interference with any other devises if its a small house? I'm not too much savvy about routers.
WOW so many comments below people don't know shit about routers. LMAO! The AC87U and AC3200 are full of bugs and junk at the moment. Go with the RT-AC68P at best buy.
+JayzBeerz how about now? they work out the bugs yet? I just ordered mine.
Gladiator1972 What did you order? I would go for the AC88U. There is no more support for the AC87U. Just being honest with you.
I just got the ASUS RT-AC87U Wireless-AC2400
Gladiator1972 Return it and get the AC88U.
