    I am old enough to recall that back in the 70's in England the vast majority of working class people fasted for a round 14 hrs per night. In our family we broke the fast at about 8am ( breakfast ) we had a decent school dinner followed by an evening meal around 5- 6pm. Fat kids were a rarity in comparison to today & we all walked about a mile each way to school in all weathers.

    Another factor I think may influence outcomes is that people eating late at night are often doing so because they have stressful or chaotic lives. Instead of chilling in the evening with their people and enjoying winding down and having supper, they're at business meetings and chasing dragons and only stop for a bite to eat then bed when the express train stops long enough to throw them off. Then they hit the ground running in the morning and can't stop to eat until lunch. So many lives are like this and it must stress both digestion and the heart.

    Whenever I see that big word - epidemiology, I take the rest of that study with a huge pinch of salt.
    I've been fasting for years now and it has greatly benefitted my overall health.

    Just curious about your thoughts on Dr. Mindy Pelz 30 Day Advanced Reset for a post-menopausal, 59 year old woman, as described in her book FAST LIKE A GIRL? Would you recommend it as is, make any tweaks, etc? Thank you for your insights!

    This is all fine for someone working 8am to 5pm, but not all of us fit that mold. Is there a way to adjust for different schedules?

    Recent studies suggest that intermittent fasting (IF) could be linked to a 92% rise in heart disease risk. ⚠ Skipping meals may cause overeating later, which can lead to high cholesterol and blood sugar spikes, increasing the strain on your heart. 🍔 Prolonged fasting also elevates cortisol, the stress hormone, potentially affecting blood pressure. 😬 Additionally, inconsistent eating might mean missing out on key nutrients essential for heart health. 🌿 For a safer approach, focus on regular, balanced meals with whole foods. 🍎🥗 Before trying IF, consult your doctor to ensure it's suitable for your unique health needs and heart! ❤

    The problem with nutritional epidemiology is that it isn’t really science- it’s all theoretical based on human recall data, with no scientific experiments to follow to confirm or disprove the hypothesis.

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  Місяць тому +1

      Right, definitely makes the claims a bit shaky - recalls aren’t an entirely sound method of data collection and are subject to recall bias. The data might have value, but hasn’t been adequately scrutinized.

    Is there benefits for fasting if you're slightly underweight?

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  Місяць тому +1

      Fasting is generally not recommended for people who are underweight. There may still be health benefits to an occasional fast, but make sure you’re able to get adequate calories (possibly a surplus) in during your eating window if you go that route.

      I'm mid 70's, 🤔 ± 53kg, 1.70m tall. Stats tell me I'm underweight. Chronic hypothyroidism, take meds for it. Try to walk 5kl a day. Avoid or try to avoid processed "foods" and seed oils, except coconut oil, eat animal fats mostly and eggs as main source of protein vegetables. Without restricting caloric intake I try to follow the 16-8 eating schedule, usually the noon to 20:00.

      If you have 8 hours eating window you have enough time for 3 meals to give your body enough calories. Should have no less than 1000 cal to gain slowly a bit of weight. I go 20/4 two meals a day maintaining my weight on approx,, 800 cal a day. Feels great.
