You guys always make my morning when you surprise drop one of my favorite movies constantly ❤
Hey I just subscribed to your patreon to watch the full length but i cant seem to find it on there. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

One of the greatest Batman movies ever created, live action or animated. Jensen Ackles gives an all timer performance as Red Hood that still hasn’t been followed, and Bruce Greenwood is a seriously underrated Batman. He plays the character so well in this movie and in Young Justice
Yeah, I considered him the definitive non-Conroy Batman from this movie. And I was so glad to realize he returned hearing him in Young Justice.
@@CamJamROC for me it's Jason o'mara
@@ItsMarvDHomer I had to warmup to O’Mara overtime, but he’s good too 👌🏽.
There will never be another Conroy but Greenwood and O’Mara are amazing batman in their own rights
Jensen Ackles is also Batman in The Long Halloween.
Jason Todd as Red Hood is the best example of an "edgy" character done right. He has easily become one of the best DC characters and his comics (Red Hood and the Outlaws, Red Hood and Arsenal, Task Force Z, etc.) are proof that even without the other BatFam members, he is more than capable of carrying a series as the protagonist. I love his rocky relationships with the other BatFam members too
To bad he’s a character with zero motivation out behind him. All his character amounts to is issues with Bruce and wanting to kill the joker. DC has done nothing with his character since this movie
@@BabyGirlTiny You're stupid if you actually believe that. The Red Hood and the Outlaws was one of the highest selling DC comics for years, including when they went into Rebirth. He had more growth in those 2 series runs than any other Bat Family member has in years, And his newest Task Force Z series is fantastic.
This is the story arc that made me and many a fan as well.
@@BabyGirlTiny Yeeeah. You obviously haven't read a single Batbook since 2009 or some shit.
Jason is over his issues with Bruce.
He was the leader of two teams. He had a Bizzaro as a best friend. And he was owner of the Iceberg Lounge.
That's just not true he moved on like a decade ago
John DiMaggio's voice acting as the Joker is outstanding!
He's quite underrated. His version of Joker was funny, intimidating, and chaotic. A lot of Jokers in other media fail to meet all three criteria
Entire voice cast … apex incredible
@@diegopansini3152 And Jared Leto was none of those things!😂😂
I know right but all I can hear is Jake the dog
@@q94141 🤣🤣
Hands down one of my favourite DC Animated films. That last scene when little Jason says "this is the best day of my life" just hits so hard in the feels cuz you know how his life turns out.
Christopher Drake’s score in this movie is so powerful. I’m surprised he hasn’t done a live action Batman movie yet.
I know right and his Arkham Origins score is insane too
@@rojobroko5979 that’s one of my favorites!!! Especially the way he uses the Christmas carols with jokers theme 🔥
My favorite score of his is The Dark Knight Returns
@@jimmy_woods4337 yea the dark knight returns score is great especially in part 1 when Batman takes down the mutant leader
I like how the second Jason Todd flashback suggests that Batman's campaign, like the comics, became darker over time. You've got Robin in the trapeze getup and Riddler's gang using gimmick weapons. Then we hard transition to street criminals and a way more aggressive Robin. We also saw previously that the Joker would kill Robin some time after this.
If you enjoyed Jensen Ackles here then you should definetly check out part 1&2 of Batman the Long Halloween
Bruce Greenwood's performance as Batman is fantastic. Especially when explaining why he has his no kill rule.
So good he came back in Young Justice!
I like that they got Judd Winnick, the writer of the original story in the comics, to write this screenplay. It allowed him to have a revised and more grounded take on Jason’s return, and the story as a whole is a lot more focused. Also, hot take: John DiMaggio is one of the best to ever play Joker and might be my personal favorite.
Yeah it also really helps to streamline the story since the comic had to be tied up with a bunch of wacky shit that was happening at the time
@@jonasquinn7977 punch someone back to life
Judd Winnick, according to the Sneak Peek, not only wrote the screenplay but was the one who pitched Under the Red Hood to Bruce Timm and the other executives.
That's not a hot take he's BRILLIANT as joker
I think it’s a understatement that a lot of people want to see a live action version of this story.
Hopefully James Gunn has some ideas to use this story in his plan for the DCU .
What's so special about live action movies? It'll only be 6 years for the actor and boom restart again, animated you have the voice actor longer and the series longer past Origin story
@@thomaswhite5122you can do some great things when the actors become older in live action to. Example: Logan
We can have both you know, animated and live action
@@thomaswhite5122
So true and there’s way less limitations with animation
I've always loved the relationship between Dick and Bruce and this movie really shows it well. The difference between the darker relationship between Bruce and Jason, and Bruce and Grayson.
Jensen did cosplay as Jason for Halloween one year
This is easily one of the best animated DC movies out there. Glad you guys watched it 🤙
This film is a Masterpiece! The ending always gets me! ''This is the best day of my life.''
i need to see that in live action. but we havent even gotten Dick
@@a.a677 I love that we ignore the existence of the live action Nightwing from that horrible Titans show.
@@sithddy7208
Nightwing was great in that show and the show wasn’t horrible
John DiMaggio's take on Joker is really in your face, it demands your attention. Really showed that classic playful yet deadly line the Joker always tip toes. Loved Jensen Ackles here, I always said he would make a good Batman and would still love to see it happen.
Ra’s was involved, but Jason was more Talia’s project in the original story. When Jason started talking about wanting revenge on Batman, Talia tried to buy time to dissuade him by sending him to deadly criminals all over the world to train under, claiming it was to get him ready and help him, but secretly hoping his vengeance boner would die down with time.
This is my favorite animated Batman film. John DiMaggio is such an underrated Joker
It’s funny that Jensen Ackles is now the voice of Batman in another one of the greatest DC animated films The Long Halloween.
The final confrontation is the greatest scene in any DC Animated movie and one that encapsulates what I think is the definition of who Batman is. I can also quote it forbattum.
Judd Winnick did an amazing job adapting his own comic where it’s better than the comic! Streamlining the story just worked so well.
My favorite animated movie of all time. I went into the movie blind not knowing who red hood was and it was beautiful.
I remember watching this at my Dad’s when I was younger. I was so shocked at the plot twist. 😩 wish i can start over for the first time just to experience it again
One of the best DC animated films. They nailed the story and animation and the voice cast did not have one weak link. The scene between Redhood and Batman at the end is my all time favourite scene out of DC...they just nailed the emotion and it hits every time I see it. Please watch Long Halloween.
Final Crisis is what you're remembering. Superboy Prime's reality shattering punch brought him back. Then he got retconned as revived by Ra's, memory-loss + violent insanity gets helped by Talia til he goes on a bruce-like journey of learning from the worst of the worst, then leads into hush etc
I really love this movie, its so sad that Jensen has now aged out of the role his look in the early seasons of supernatural was perfect for Jason Todd
And John DiMaggios performance as the joker cements him in their for one of the best joker voices ever.
The voice cast in this movie is super underrated in these roles. All great actors otherwise, sure, but everyone’s really good in this, especially John DiMaggio’s Joker.
I'd definitely recommend reading Lost Days Red Hood, it shows his training with the league and his Batman Esc training where he goes around the world and trains under great masters of certain skills like marksmanship and explosives.
Something I do find interesting about how the way comics have changed is that Jason Todd when he came back was originally a villain. He was a bad guy a part of Batman's rogue's gallery then somewhere down the line he became an antihero. That's what everyone knows him better as like an anti-hero but a large amount of people forget he was a villain for a long time.
Under the Red Hood is absolutely fantastic where Jensen Ackles crushed it along with the rest of the cast! John DiMaggio is my second favorite voice actor as Joker.
One of the best Batman movies ever made. Jensen, Bruce, John all killed it and this is well done and packs in so much with it's short runtime. Will love to see Red Hood in live action.
I'm surprised Coy hasn't seen this movie but it's great to experience it with him and hear his raw thoughts on the Red Hood character.
This movie is definitely one of my most favorite animated film. It takes us back to the 2nd robin Jason Todd and who he was and what happened to him. This movie reveals red hood to us for the first time
This movie is tied with Mask of the Phantasm, and The Dark Knight Trilogy and The Dark Knight Returns animated movies for my favorite Batman movies of all time.
I remember never even looking up who Red Hood was before seeing this and the absolute surprise I felt when I learned who he was. And the cast of this movie just knocked it so damn far out of the park, especially the actors who played Batman, Red Hood and Joker.
46:40 Man, whenever Coy starts passionately talking about his favourite characters...i instantly get goosebumps. The way the passion flows seamlessly through his words is uncanny!
2nd only to Mask of the Phantasm amongst the animated Batman films... what an honor that is.
This is one of the pinnacle DC animated movies, it was outright outrageously good. I teared up at the end when it showed young Jason because of how happy he was to be Robin when the movie was about all the pain and misery that came from being Robin 😢
41:52 No, it was not. The in-comic explanation is *far* more crazy. So, after the fan-vote to kill Jason, DC Comics held another big Crisis storyline. The main villain in the story was a character called Superboy-Prime, who came from a universe where the DC heroes existed in comics. Sort of a Gwenpool type situation. Anyway, Crisis happens, and Superboy-Prime ends up punching a whole through the space-time continuum, causing some changes. One change was that the Jason Todd that died was replaced with an equally damaged but still alive Jason from a parallel universe. So, Jason wakes up, freshly exploded but still alive, IN THE COFFIN. He then DIGS HIMSELF OUT, runs for miles, get's hit by a car, and is then captured by Ra's al Ghul. After a bit of training and Lazarus healing, Jason is released back into the world, and becomes the Red Hood. Now, I may have gotten some parts wrong, but that's the general gist of what happened.
Good start but I'll help ya out here. Jason wasn't replaced with somebody from a parallel universe. When superboy prime literary punched reality, that sent ripples throughout the pre-new 52 universe, and restored him back to life. He was indeed captured by the league but Ras wanted to use him to get back at batman. There wasn't any real training as he retained most of it, even though he was basically a brain-dead walking thing. Talia gives him access to the pit and then Talia releases him from her father. I'd read Red Hood: Lost Days to find out more 👍
@@jamesonbrown3789 yes, this is the version I remember.
Still one of my top favorite Batman films to date.
Still one of the best DC animated films to date.
Funny that Coy brings up Hamlet: When Kevin Conroy started Batman: The Animated Series, he only knew Adam West's Batman. When Bruce Timm explained it more to him, the Juliard actor had an epiphany: "he's Hamlet!" and he was able to understand the character better.
Holy fuck this is one of my favourite animated films
I refuse to believe you guys haven’t seen this film. I REFUSE‼️ This is a classic Batman movie.
I love the design of the Batwing in this. It reminds me of the Batman Forever version which has always been a personal favorite of mine.
Just realised this scene inspired the Red Hood scene in the DC Titans TV Series. Almost scene by scene referencing. Amazing!
Definitely in my top 3 favorite Batman movies of all time! Love this story, great reactions!
I was wondering if you guys were familiar with the legendary DCAU (DC Animated Universe) which is comprised of Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. I know Greg and John grew up with Batman the Animated Series but I hardly ever talk about the rest of the shows which in many ways actually surpass Batman the Animated Series. They are some of the best and most mature superhero and animated content of all time.
Such a damn good movie with Jenson doing a fantastic voice job
I do enjoy The Batman animated Flicks as well. It reminds me of the cartoon series that was on in the 90s. It was very sleek and distinct from anything else on at the time. I appreciated that. 😌💙
I like that the voice actor for Batman was used for the Young Justice animated series as well.
Loved how they used classic 60’s Riddler for the flashback
*By far my favorite animated DC film. A live action adaptation of this story would be undeniably successful*
As far as I know, Jason comes back somehow (side effect of the Motherbox, resurrecting Superman perhaps? lol), still in his coffin, digs his way out, and spends time on the streets of Gotham in some sort of catatonic state (likely brain damage related). Eventually he's found by Talia and brought home with her. She realizes he's not getting better, sticks him in the Pit and then spends a few years training him or sending him to other League members for training. At some point, she shows him stuff about Joker still being alive, Tim being his replacement, ect, and basically points Jason towards Bruce like a heat-seeking missile. Enter the Red Hood.
I love the memory of Young Jason starts out almost like a cartoon. Stopping the Riddler, and some more campy henchmen from stealing art at a museum and that VERY quick smash cut to a teen Jason in a drug den with realistic gangsters. Brilliant shot
My personal favorite DC movie. Not just animated, I mean all of them
5:05 Come to think of it, I think every Adam West episode started with, "Gotham City": Where the Joker has Jynxed the Jewelry Jamboree. Where the Penguin's Particular Pranks Pounced upon the Pios People with Prejiduce.
Actually Winter soldier and that similar storyline actually came first before they introduced the red hood.
Sure the identity of Robin originated way before Bucky but the Winter soldier storyline started in 2004
While the red hood story line started in 2005. 44:30
Not only did fans vote to kill jason but they also set call bots to call the number to kill him repeatedly
I like the fact that Ra’s is simpathetic to Batman after unintentionally killing Jason and how he resurrected him after that fails he doesn’t pursue him and says “Besides, I’ve done enough”
Man, I remember first seeing this. During his performance in that final scene, I decided that this was the definitive Batman if Conroy wasn’t available. Very good casting. One of my own top 3 DCAU films. I’m one of those who was introduced to Red Hood through this movie.
Johns joker is so underrated this is also the best ending in any comic book movie, that final like 15 mins is perfection of all 3 characters
Justice League: The New Frontier is one you frankly must watch as an adaptation of DC: The New Frontier with Darwyn Cooke’s involvement. Hal, Martian Manhunter, and Barry are awesome and it’s fantastic.
Batman: Under the Red Hood is possibly my favorite animated Batman movie, Superman Vs. The Elite is my favorite animated Superman movie, they both get to the core of why the characters follow the code they do.
The sound design in that scene of the Joker beating Robin with a crowbar (which for the record: yikes that's dark) is just so good. You really feel the weight of those hits
Before the Killing Joke, this was one of the best animated Batman movies that gave a dark atmosphere and great acting moments that gave me chills and I always loved whenever Red Hood showed up.
huh? The Killing Joke is one of the worst animated movies ever. Bruce Timm should be ashamed for forcing his fetish of BruceBabs in the movie.
@@a.a677 If you skip that part of the movie it is literally just the comic word for word, shot for shot. I just start it when the comic does.
“You knew this was coming pete” killed me😂😂😂
Wow you guys have never seems this! It’s one of the best DC animated films
THIS is my favorite DC animated film. And that final scene and line is heartbreaking!
36:29
One fun detail in the end jason got his answer.
He punched the joker right next to the bomb and immediately grabbed Jason.
In that moment he would have let Joker die to save Jason, but sadly in the end it didnt matter.
Like Joker said everyone still loses
Troy Baker as Joker, Jensen Ackels as Batman. These are my second favs after the OG ones. 🤍
So excited to watch this. You guys are some of my favorite reactors ever, and I adore this movie
28:38
"Well, do we have another Lazarus Pit ready to go?'
PLEASE react to more animated Batman content/movies. With Kevin Conroy’s passing, it’s be great to revisit episodes/movies from the DCAU. BTAS, Superman, Batmen Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited…. Those are great watches! "Under the Red Hood" is a great animated Batman flick. Great voice acting, animation and character designs overall. Awesome adaptation/streamlining of the original comic storyline. I think the only part I cringe at a bit is when Bruce & Alfred go to check Jason's casket lol. Stupid nitpick though. This is a great animated flick, and I hope you guys continue to sprinkle in more DC Animated reactions, particularly the Bruce Timm DCAU continuity!
the killing joke is also an insanely good animated movie and ik coy would love it if he aint seen it already
Can’t wait for more animation reactions from you guys!! I’m a huge fan of the DCAU, but the later ones require a bit of chronological sleuthing to figure out which ones to watch in what order 😁
Animated Batman movies are so good! 🔥
This movie was so good when it came out in July 2010. I loved it. Saw it during my days in College.
Would love a reaction to Mask of the Phantasm, it's definitely one of the best batman movies.
Bruce Greenwood....
The Canadian that played 3 of the most significant u.s. characters of the last couple generations;
JFK
Captain Christopher Pike
and Batman
😊😁😄😆😎
proudly among the 56.. the "which hurts more ..A or B" was a direct reference to the poll... thr B's won.. and gave us RedHood
Before the Lazarus Pit retcon, Jason was brought back because Superboy of Earth Prime (our Earth) punched the walls of the Paradise dimension he was living in since the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1986.
The Lazarus Pit retcon is a good improvement.
Eh, not really. I mean, it changes Ra’s digging up Jason to talia digging up Jason, but then it doesn’t do anything regarding Bruce and talia’s relationship at all.
I watched this movie so many times growing up, it makes me so happy that you guys are reacting to it!!
One of the best animated movies I ever seen, I still watch it like I never seen it before.
R.I.P. Kevin Conroy
Love that you guys reacted to this. Red Hood is my favorite DC character because of this and the OG comic arc
To Coy's question about the apostrophe in "Ra's al Ghul": it's a common English transliteration of the Arabic letter ء (hamza). The Arabic word that they transliterate as "ra's" (meaning "head" or "leader") is pronounced with a slight glottal stop between the r and s.
Jensen Ackles did cosplay as the Red Hood awhile back
This is a great movie the only gripe I have with it is how Joker survives at the end considering the bomb explodes while his face is beside the bomb
That's classic Joker though.
If they made an animated DC Metal movie, I think Kevin Micheal Richardson would be the perfect voice for The Batman Who Laughs.
Actually, how cool would it be the Dark Knights were voiced by those who voiced Batman in previous animated adaptations?!
The funniest part is someone admitted to using an auto calling service to MASS vote to kill Jason, and from reports, if this person hadn't, he would've lived
"This is the best day of my life." What a dark note to end on.
I remember watching this in elementary school when I had a bedtime. I only got 30 mins in and my mom made me go to bed at 10. Got up at 4 in the morning to watch the rest of it before I had to get on the bus for school
"DoN'T open it with a crowbar Bruce, have somE TACT!"
One of my all time favorite animated DC movies
The voice of the Joker is Bender from Futurama aka John DiMaggio
Red hood hates Batman for not avenging his death by killing joker
I knew they would LUV the Joker one-liners in the apartment.
just finished the flashpoint reaction and heard you watched this so i had to come back and watch it because flashpoint and under the red hood are two of my favourite dc animated movies just amazing
Had to reread the title, because I thought there was no way you guys hadn’t seen this movie before
