What do you consider to be a "budget" keyboard? I usually consider it anything under $200 for enthusiast grade stuff, this is because a lot of keyboards are $300-500+ for a similar sound/feel.

Do they deliver to asia
I would say anything under the $200 range is budget
nice
anything under £20
I got my first mech keyboard only a few months ago so my opinion is still very skewed towards "anything over $150 is not budget". And that's without taking into account the shipping, customs, and the annoyance that every product is always in ANSI layout (where be ISO keebs at)
When testing hotswap pcbs, could permanently damage the spring contacts inside the hotswap sockets by inserting pointy tweezers. If it’s too fat, the springs might not return to their original position and might not make good contact with the switch pins.
You can also test the pcb by flipping the pcb upside down and touching the pads or the exposed metal on the back kailh sockets.

I was going to write this quote, but was searching to see if someone else did first
Ayo?
This keyboard looks beautiful! Loving the keycaps!
What a masterpiece; both the video and the keyboard. I love my QK65 and the person in chat during the stream who said the keyboard is less thocky when the bottom silicone is installed must have been high...
Love your keyboard videos! Especially enjoyed watching your trip to the Cherry factory. Keep up the great work, we love you!
I love this colour scheme and the keycaps!!
this keybaord turned out so good. im in love with the colors. i love lavender
I wish the hobby had a more “bespoke” model than a “group-buy semi-unlimited raffle fcfs maybe you’ll have the opportunity to get one this year” model. I’m not salty about it though!
I mean. Bespoke means either limited. Taylored or luxurious. And a limited edition hundred and fifty dollar key cap set. Is pretty bespoke.
@@MrKaiyooo I believe a better model would be selling the service of making the keyboard than the keyboard itself. No two QK65s are exactly the same anyway. If you try mix-and-match 2 cases together, they won’t necessarily fit with each other. You can still manufacture the boards in batches. I just think there’s a better way to what’s already being done. There are gmk group buys for key caps right now that won’t come out until 2024…maybe. That’s not a good system for growing interest, especially when asking $300+ for one product. Experiences can be products as well!
QwertyKeys are saying that they're planning on doing consistent groupbuys as long as the board is in demand and hope to make the QK65 an in-stock board at some point, so if they do manage to do that it would be neat.
For cases I think that should be possible. For keycaps I don't see how that could ever work. Getting a molding run in takes a lot of time to set up and you have to reserve the time for a molding machine and a mold way in advance. And there's simply no way to get good results without injection molded keycaps (maybe the ceramic keycaps are made differently?) which simply have that up front cost that pretty much NEEDS a group buy to be worth it for a manufacturer/designer unless you are willing to pay literally thousands of dollars for a keycap set.
@@illegitimate0 I’m speaking almost exclusively in regard to cases. If a person wants to wait for keycaps, then more power to them. There are too many decent in-stock options for keycaps for me personally.
Excellent design and construction, regardless of the hype it's just good overall (and with lots of customization options).
amazing editing hypyo! keep up the great work
I’m here and SUPER excited to watch the video!!!!! I’m also actually super excited for this one about budget boards as I am just starting out myself.
I just ordered a gmmk2 and now im seeing this video bruh
@@marijanloncar5720 I received my gmmk2 a few days ago, but didn't open it yet because I'm probably gonna return it and pre-order a qk65
@@marijanloncar5720 I know!! I might look into this board for my second build. On my first build I used a Bakeneko65 and KTT Sea Salt Lemon switches.
Damn you Hipyo that extra Howdy Hey gets me every time.
the howdy hey in the middle was worth it, so glad i listened to u and didnt skip the skillshare bit
"Budget keyboard"
Almost $300 with customization and shipping.
As a newcomer to this hobby, I think we have VERY different budgets.
Don't worry, I'm sure most of us typed out this exact same comment when we were first introduced to keyboards.
I’m sure there’s a huge jump in difference between that budget-friendly delineation and the $12 Aldi keyboard I consider budget friendly 😳 I don’t even know if I can pop ‘er open, I don’t have any gizmos n tools! I just really want to slather some lube onto it somehow, hopefully reduce some of the resistance I actually start to feel in my nailbeds after a pretty short time using it
@@celaestisamory1834 Are they clicky switches? I guess that could be annoying on longer nails. Regardless, it would probably be a pain in the ass to get the switches out considering they're soldered in. You would have to desolder, open them up, lube them, then solder them back into the board. Not really worth the effort for such a cheap board (imo)
This is still considered budget range. The enthusiast grade keyboards would go from $300+ and thats still barebones.
It's a overly expensive hobby, It's hilarious to see 200 be considered "budget" for a keyboard when thats like two thirds of the average monthly salary in my country. Not saying there shouldn't be options but bunch of stuff is overpriced for no reason. Budget is something like 10, 20 to 50 bucks at most. And no I'm not a new to all of this.
I gotta say, I absolutely think your keycaps are some of the cutest I've seen, literally one of the things I look for in a keycap is fun extra keys that'll make me smile when I look at them, adorable hippos and their booties would do that xD (plus I'm all about the pastels and that purple is gorgeous). Might have to be the first keycap set I actually buy (I'm a newbie), if they're still around when I have money in a month or 2 (got that Steam Deck payment coming up and it's going to sting because it's way earlier than I'd anticipated). Love the sound and aesthetics of this board. Started looking into this hobby for the sound and the aesthetics, it appears I'm on the right track.
I honestly love watching these videos, and I can’t wait to build my own keyboard when I go abroad to study. My country doesn’t have a custom keyboard Market. The closest thing I got to one is my modded sk61 😎
Hey there! I'm quite new to the custom keyboard community, but literally fell in love with this QK65 and it's creamy sound. Any tips about where to buy it or an equivalent?
that is surprisingly deep sounding, now to grab my u4ts and MT3 keycaps...
you should review the epomaker theory th68 with sea salt switches, they come prelubed as well. not sure if it has foam but id assume so because mine is pretty damn thoccy for 100 bucks. i do know that with epomaker sometimes the QC on the lube isnt always the best but mine came excellent.
Been waiting for this!!!
How would you compare this to the keychron q2? Do you think one has better value over the other? I don't really have too much of a preference for the volume knob, so that isn't really a part of my considerations.
been here for some time. this qk65 is the best i've heard so far. person preference: this is godlike level!
ordered this keyboard a few days after this video came out and it just arrived today. built it and it’s by far my favorite keyboard i own. highly recommend
I literally subscribed to like 8 Mechanical Keyboard newsletter to be noticed when there is a new opportunity to get one (which would be next year if you listen to the mods in their discord 😭)
‘Sounds passable’
insane man. insane man.
I bought this keyboard yesterday, so I'm super exited to see your build!
Which plate did you chose?
@@rocketval9288 I chose fr4 and pom plate! Those are my favorate :)
@@sachi7861 yeah same
where did you buy the keyboard? i want one too
@@stereotypzilla4303 Qwertykeys
You can make it a mid-premium? board if you get the e-white color and reflective pvd coating. It would go for around $270.
very sad I found this video days after the qk65 group buy ended. this is the sound I'm craving. have really been enjoying your vids lately. cheers
I have a group buy spot at ashkeebs that I'm willing to give up. It has a black top, gold bottom, and a polycarb plate. I'd imagine it'll arrive hopefully sometime in November. It costs 260 CAD or 200 USD.
Really love the unlimited group buy. Reasonable selling strategy
LOL OMG @ 10:10 - The QK65 is my favourite keyboard style/layout ever so far, I need to find a way to get one of these man...
Hi, may I know the size of space bar and right shift? are they different from a standard full-size keyboard?
Howdy hey, I can’t believe this is the thockiest keyboard I have heard and you didn’t even put “THOCK” in the thumbnail. LMAO. In all seriousness though, your videos are great! 👍
This video is amazing. BTW the qk65 r2 is 100 $ now, POOOOG!!
what site do you use to buy your keyboard stuff like the switches, the stabs, ect?
When you went "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" while typing, I really felt that.
Yea they finally restocked so i can order one. Def seems like a great value but been loving my neko60. Dont like the zooms fiinish as much.
one of the best keyboards ive ever heard bro i swear
IMHO for sound profile i like qk better than zoom65 But for overall price and availability in my country, with switch and keycaps included in olivia edition
i can compromised for a less thockier keebs
i love keyboard vids. hipyo can u release ur desk mat as a smaller mat?
I love this keyboard because it sounds kinda hollow imo and it makes it feel light which is perfect for osu a game i play
Preeeeeety good. But like really good, and stuff. Entertaining review as always
is there any website, blog or whatever where they list upcoming keyboards (as the zoom 65 and the qk65) ? when I see an entrylevel keyboard that I like it's always already sold out, so frustrating!
I want to support the channel by getting the keycaps, and also the switches even though they're not officially Hipyo Tech, but they can't ship to the UK. Sadge. And I already bought the QK65 in Lilac and White. So imma have to do some scouting for some Lilac stuff. Recommendations would be super welcome! :D
Do you find it jarring using a keyboard that doesn't have a UK layout? I'm browsing for nice keebs but struggle to find UK layout ones!
@@SarahStumbleine I do! lots of caps only come with standards and no iso's its so sad. also yea, I manage to get Kinetic Labs stuff now. It was just a matter of minimum order price because of shipping taxes and shite.
cant wait to get the qk65
Try out the koi 61 it’s really affordable only around $60 and personally I thinks it’s great
damn that just sounds amazing
My god. I have a near stock keychron q3 that's my first foray into the hobby and I need to learn how to mod it to get closer to this. Holy shit.
Very new to this scene, like days old. This is possibly the best sound so far.
Bro is that the switches or just the whole thing together? THAT'S INSANE OMG
omg it's so good 😱
time to break the jar
that looks so good
Oooh this sounds so nice! I just wish I could make my keyboard silent so I would not feel bad about typing when my fiance is asleep haha. Always feel like waking her up when I press one key. Maybe one day I can afford a cool keyboard like that! Keep up the nice videos. These are always nice to watch even tho they make me want to spend all my rent money.
Just do the alternative and make a keyboard that sounds good enough to put her to sleep lol
@@leviathanu099 yes musical keyboard therapy. Do a deep dampen sound using all foams.
Hello, I have a hippo switch and a qk65, it is hotswap and I couldn't remove my switches out of the qk65. is there any advice on how to remove it easily? I feel like I am going to break the switches when I try to force it.
Smart move by them to extend the PCB to under the USB port
Are you keycaps available from anywhere else too? Kinetic labs doesn't ship to the UK :(
my qk65 I got from the Chinese r1 just got here today! the experience was a bit disappointing, with ship dates being pushed back, poor community&company communication (ie the change in color of both the carrying case and pcb were not notified), minimum updates/notifications, and other issues. all of the Bluetooth pcbs we're missing the Bluetooth components so now we all have to send the pcbs back and wait for a return, even when we got the keyboard. the qq server is kind of just toxic as qk doesn't make an effort to regulate and actually use it properly. obv it's a good kb, and I know things happen, but I just thought to share some of the negative parts of at least my experience, as this would be the choice for a lot of new comers!
What is this transparent keyboard in the video which is displayed on the video starts. Can you give the link and price of this keyboard please
Howdy Hey! This keeb is so fire! I want to build one just like it! Match it with the hipyotech deskmat too!
I didn’t notice in the video. Did you lube these switches or just the STABS?
Me trying to convince myself I don’t need a zoom AND a QK rn….they’re both so good 😭
Can you put the link of where you bought it, because the place I found it came with everything BUT the pcb
"Anytime you're hittin it from the front you should always support it from the back." 7:43
you should use cut up deskmat as foam and see how it works? video idea??
I was just starting to drink water when you said, "Grab some water." You really are a magician!
I’m not even joking,I just preordered the qk65 restock yesterday 😂😂😂
Hipyo, will you ever review/build the GMMK 2? I’ve heard they fixed a lot of problems with the GMMK Pro, and although it’s not exactly my preferred layout, I wonder if it’s good for the price?
gmmk 2 and gmmk pro are completely different things?
Gmmk2 is just a plastic board. Instead of that you are better off getting akko pc75b plus, which is a better board and include decent switches and great pbt doubleshot keycaps.
@@IronCan88 Can you buy it barebones? I likely wouldn't use stock switches, keycaps, or stabilizers
@@EvanNeedsTherapy it doesn't come barebone unfortunately. And the value is there mainly if you would at least use the keycaps. Otherwise if you are spending $120, might as well spend $30 more and get the keychron qq or perhaps akko mod007 or 006, since you will be getting metallic case rather than plastic. I personally have better keyboard, but just wanted a wireless mechanical, and happen to like the low key look of pc75b plus, so I chose to get it with jelly purple and just mod it. And for what it is...I think it's a great value. If you think about it, the keycaps is worth $60 and switches another $24 and stabilizer another $15...so you are basically paying like $20 for the rest of the keyboard...so it's insanely great value.
I can't decide what to get for my first entry board. I think I am leaning towards the gmmk pro or q1 with the function row and knob ! but... q65 and kbd67 lite are tempting as well... if this was your first keyboard and you were getting into the custom keyboard hobby what would be your first choice if the price wasn't a factor? What stabs, switches, and keycaps? After watching way too many videos I feel like I know too much ... so indecisive lol ! Cheers !
My suggestion is always find something lightly used for cheap on mech market (Reddit). Always some great deals to be scored if you hunt long enough.
@@fireflyslight8155 really appreciate that. I’ll take a look! Thank you !
I would recommend against the GMMK Pro, it's very stiff and very muted, it's not a bad board, but the other boards you've mentioned stack up so much better imo. I would personally go for the QK65, it's got full metal construction and doesn't need mods to sound good. Q1 can be great too, but you gotta do some work to get it to sound and feel good. Owllabs is just a stellar company too in my opinion, their products have almost always been a massive hit. Only issue is trying to find stock, it can be pretty tricky. If you can't find stock, you can go with the KBD67 Lite if you don't want to mod, or a Q1 if you don't mind mods.
If it matters at all, I've had experience building a GMMK Pro, a Q3 (pretty close to the Q1, just TKL) and KBD67 lite R3. I really like my Q3, but if I didn't need a TKL to do work, I'd jump for the QK65. My main board at home is the Mr. Suit, which is, for the most part, a fancier QK65 that is TKL, and it's my favorite board to date. QK65 won't be as nice looking, but it's got a lot of the same features and I just don't think you can go wrong with it. Should also be noted that the QK65 comes with Owl lab's Owlstabs included, and they're some of the best stabs on the market. The other options also come with stabs, but their own proprietary mediocre ones (They're not terrible ... other than the GMMK Pro's, those are pretty bad, but they're not Durock V2s/Owlstabs)
@@armani722 this is super helpful. Man the Mr.Suit would be perfect … love the TKL but maybe the qk65 is all I need for now and I’ll go for a mr suit type level further down the line 🧐. I like the function row but maybe I don’t need that or a knob 😂. Thank you for the help brother
Should I get this or the keychron v1 barebones and get the switches and keycaps???

Brand new to this hobby and want to build a keyboard. There is a specific one I saw on Instagram I want to copy, but the description is very slim and I could use some help. Where can I go to get help?
Were those hippo switches stock or were they lubed and filmed?
I think a good keyboard you can review is the akko mod008
Where did you get the base for the keyboard
I'm in the UK but can't find this anywhere to buy. Is it not available here?
they need a 75% version so i will buy it, sounds noice
how often do you need to lube a keyboard to sound like this ?
That sounded so goddamn nice
What lube does hipyo tech use?
Are the switches lubed for this?
DAMN THATS THOCC AF
Where can I buy this keyboard? I checked some sites but it seems impossible to get it.
