- This is a collection of various Subaru ads ranging from the 1980-1990. My collection is by no means complete, it's just what I've found thus so far. I will make additions as time goes on. If you have any questions or comments, please put them below or send them to me.
All videos are copyright their respective owners. I am merely creating a compilation for your viewing convenience.
My 1st car was a 1988 DL Wagon
Yesterday a bought a Forester Wilderness. Things have sure come a long way
"Subaru, inexpensive and built to stay that way" *cries in garage while my wrx is in pieces and I'm several thousand dollars in on OEM parts*
Yeah they meant what they made in the 80s not the new garbage
@@EVAMotorworks"the new garbage" actually becomes garbage when you destroy the car like he did
1 minute into this video is the Suburu AD my dad (the late Michael Small) composed the music for. I remember going to the recording studio in NYC as a kid and watched my Dad conduct the orchestra for the recording....would have been in the late 70's
Great story man!
I never had a Subaru but I swear by AWD in the snow. Once you go AWD, you never go back.
I've done AWD donuts in my mom's highlander on the snow and it felt epic. I just turn the wheel and floored it and it just spun the front wheels until the AWD kicked in and it started doing sick donuts.
There was a Subaru commercial that played during the early morning farm report in OKC around 1981, where the "inexpensive and built to stay that way" tagline was sung as a jingle. I've never heard it again since!
This may be the best thing on the internet
I suddenly need to buy a 1980 Subaru. And a 1981 Subaru. and a...pretty sure a couple of 70s Subarus. And I momentarily felt the need to move to the south and buy one. It's inexplicable.
i have 1 brat 3 leone wagons one as a daily, i have now found my fav video on youtube, thank you for posting this
i love first gen legacy. still see some old subarus running and i go wooow yeah.
Subaru for life, that's all I drive......
How to survive a crash:
The best way is not to get to in one
Thanks for this trip down memory lane! Do you remember the commercial from either 1989 or the early 90's, when Subarus were racing across the desert, and a little group of prairie dogs or meerkats quickly turned their heads to watch the cars go by fast? That's the commercial I'm looking for. Any ideas?
You're welcome! I don't have a copy of that commercial, but if you can find it I'll gladly made an amended copy of this compilation.
A Range Rover being chased by a Justy: priceless
The justy probably is still going
5:31 I've owned several XT/XT6's and they were the most awesomely ugly car there was. I'd love to see a modern take on the wonder wedge.
In Australia the brat is called the brumby
I was hoping for the Justy "blows the doors off" ad.
10:00 This one is too cute! But pretty close to what the Range Rover does at that time to the Justy.
I had a metalic (light) blue one and I loved it very much! This was in early nineties. The dashboard by night was like an aeroplane.
Subaru 1.8 GLF
At 16:03 A 1970 Chevy Chevelle with 1975 Ford Granada Ghia Wheel covers.
The first van ad, priceless!
Yep - they used to be about performance. Now it's about good vibes and puppies. ugh!

i do love subaru car in 1984...
GL-10 gray sedan car with 4 doors
I just bought a new, reliable, and affordable Subaru Crosstrek.
I love that 88 L series just ripping up those rocks.
Think it was Subaru but it had a men's choir singing "It's Over Over There.
Seeing the incomparable Ms Ruth Gordon (1:32)was a real treat. She never was a 'cute' type, she was a brassy, honest woman, with a terrific spirit.
Amazing how they make claims about being the only one commited to 4wD cars...Hmm AMC Eagle, anyone?
well the BRZ is rear drive
the BRZ is a toyota :P. (joking)
AMC still around?............Subaru is!!!!!
The commercial at 10:26 is funny.
Is that Morgan Freeman doing the voice over in the first ad? Sure sounds like him..
2:45 why would I hear that in Smash and now this Subaru commercial? How will it sound like that at that time before Smash did?
thumbs up
I own 3 brats
let me guess, one of them runs occasionally.
The Cloudster He means he has 3 kids or some kind of other joke.
@@co_nut_co_nut aaaaaahhh yeeeess
I used to own a silver '86. Had a Baja for a long time too.
Subaru legacy it's really good car
and built to last
_"and built to last"_
Indeed.
The Subaru Legacy is inexpensive, and built to stay that way.™
@@Watcher3223 Yeah they're really built to last alright... With their brand new engines burning oil back in like 2013 or some shit. Look it up, it really happened.
@@thecloudster4520 Not doubting that with their cars made recently. And I am aware of their oil consumption problems.
I was merely making a play at words with a slogan the company once used in the 1980s.
@@Watcher3223 lol yea I was acting like an asshole, sorry bro.
1:25 yeah, you keep telling yourself that with your 600 dollar head gasket repairs Subaru.
not for EA series engines, they're cheap, durable and easy to maintain
Actually a $600 head gasket repair is cheap
1:21 *no help from helicopter*
the second ad is actually miserable XDDDDDDDDD
All of these Subaru commercials and not one Whoop-Dee-Doo for my Subaru?
i love!
The very first commercial, is Morgan Freeman narrating?
Is that Morgan Freeman voice in the first add ?
Does anybody know the female voice who sings Rod Stewart 's Sailing song? Minute 16:18-19 (the final ad).
Any useful help is welcome.
