I'd like more pancake/cookie style lenses for the S9!

@@mipmipmipmipmip-v5x I like that we have options, my finances are not great and I don't have a lens larger than 60mm. The savings are significant if you add the 20% discount. Even so, I have to think about selling equipment I no longer use to buy the lens and I don't know what the other options are that you mention. :) Thanks for the review.
I'm stunned the focus breathng is so noticeable on the LUMIX lens. I thought that whole LUMIX f1.8 range was made primarily for videographers. Something seems wrong with either the camera settings or lens firmware. I can't believe Panasonic simply overlooked this! Thank you for a helpful review.
@@nocturnal1970 I didn’t mix up the results 😆 if you watch my original review of the LUMIX 85 I think I mentioned it has noticeable focus breathing too
As you say, the market is full of 85 1.8. As an I mount photographer, I would actually prefer to go for a used lens from Lumix. You can find them for as little as €350. If you already have other lenses from the s line, you also have the advantage of keeping the filter diameter at a uniform 67mm.
I've been looking for a video on this lens but couldn't find any as this lens is just 1 month old. Now you should do a comparison of the new meike and the f1.4 85mm meike.
Honest review, it's a joke to call that build a 'pro' lens. I don't know why anyone would choose this as open box Lumix 85mm f1.8 can be similar price with guarantee from camera stores.
Meike is NOT part of the offical L-mount alliance, and Meike has already released a few L-mount AF lenses, I've reviewed their 50 1.8 and 85 1.4 on this channel a few months ago.
From what I've seen, the LUMIX 85mm lens is the only one of the primes that has noiceable focus breathing. As a filmmaker, focus breathing is important. So, it looks like the Meike 85mm would be a good choice despite the build quality.
It seems the longer the focal length the easier there would be noticable focus breathing. The Sony 85 1.8 has terible focus breathing, the Nikon 85 1.8 S also has noticeable focus breathing. So I was really surprised when I saw almost no focus breathing with this Meike
I ordered such a lens for myself, it will arrive on January 6, I bought it due to lack of focus breathing, plastic or wood doesn’t matter anymore, I just couldn’t find an 85mm for my Lumix with such characteristics)
Chinese lenses are getting better and better for sure but making highquality zoom lenses is still their challenges. I hope we will see some good ones from Chinese manufacturers next year.
haha thanks! Maybe you just didn't see my face when I was editing video or writing scripts at 1am 😅 But I'm good! Oh do i look sad in some of my previous videos?
Oh I see, oh big success person like you still do work at midnight too huh, I faced challenges and life went off-road, and sometime I have to burn midnight oil and cost my health, I should sleep early but then didn't get enough work as freelancer and I really want to get back on track in life to find my wifey as early as possible too, 29 already. No, you doing just fine, I haven't watfh your older videos to compare but feel like your smile are bigger now, maybe you have a lot works and finally get the script done and able to shoot the video finally so relief and happy about it? Anyway, happy new year to you! In case you or anyone you know need a logo and merch prints arts, can let me know too!
@@NetvoTV I wouldn’t really call myself big successful person but I am very happy with what I am doing :) when look at other people on social media it’s easy to see only the positive side but I am sure everyone do have our own issues we need to deal with. I I ust want to be positive and share more positive energy with everyone to make it a happier better world
It seems like these Chinese brands often focus on focal lengths that are already well covered with options. Instead of an 85mm f1.8, I would be more interested in a 100 or 105mm f1.8 for my Nikon Z kit. This lens seems okay but I agree that the "Pro" label doesn't quite match the product.
I believe one reason why lenses, especially autofocus lenses from Chinese brands are usually prime lens around the 35-85mm is because they are easier to create, both optically and also other things like autofocus motor. But I am expecting it will start to change very soon as the companies start building up more experience and knowledge and try explore the less crowded focal length options.
@@TheRealRichardWong That makes sense. I just wish there was more variety. Like with Fuji X-mount and the half dozen different 23mm f1.4's to pick from. Thanks for the reply! I really enjoy your channel.
Yes I wish there are more variety too. As a reviewer it also gets really quite boring after testing dozens of 85mm and 23mm APSC lenses within just a few years LOL. Thanks for your support and happy new year!
@TheRealRichardWong Exactly why I don't want to deal with step-up rings. No hood bad look no protection. Will go with Sirui 85 1.4 that has 67mm filter thread.
I was always not sure how to pronounce Meike's English name. So a few years ago, I asked the Meike rep if I should pronounce it as 美科 in mandarin,Meike told me the official pronunciation actually is “May-Key” so that’s how I pronounce it in my videos 😀But since I am communicating with a different rep recently, I have actually asked again few days ago again how to pronounce the name. the reply was once again “May-Key”
@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for all you do. Your reviews are the most thorough of any. Even down to the correct pronunciation. I agree with others that you do have a happy demeanor and that is always welcome.
What's your thoughts about this Meike 85 f/1.8 Pro? And what do you want Meike to work on next?
I'd like more pancake/cookie style lenses for the S9!

Closest to this Meike is 7artisan 85mm. Hope you could do a comparison. 😊
First! Awesome, can’t wait to see more PRO L-mount lenses from Meike 🔥
haha you are always first one to comment! yes i want see more Pro lenses from Meike! But I also want some compact pancake lenses too

I wonder did he mix them up? 😮
The 85 breathes quite a bit more than the other lenses.
@@nocturnal1970 I didn’t mix up the results 😆 if you watch my original review of the LUMIX 85 I think I mentioned it has noticeable focus breathing too
Focus breathing performance is superb.
What is the difference between this lens and the cheaper older 85mm lens they offer??
Better performance overall.

Autofocus on this 85mm F1.8 PRO is done well.
Their F1.4 version of 85mm is good but not the best AF speed.
Happy to see that this is a good one.
Thanks for watching!
How do you like this 85mm from the panasonic S9? In terms of weight/ convenience.
It is "OK", not as good as the 18-40, it feels slightly front heavy. But not a big difference when compare to to the 20-60 or other Lumix 1.8 lenses
I've been looking for a video on this lens but couldn't find any as this lens is just 1 month old. Now you should do a comparison of the new meike and the f1.4 85mm meike.
The 85mm f1.4 received a new firmware supporting the linear focus mode now as well 👍
Oh that's great to hear that. I'm happy when I heard company support their products and release firmware updates to improve it.
Honest review, it's a joke to call that build a 'pro' lens. I don't know why anyone would choose this as open box Lumix 85mm f1.8 can be similar price with guarantee from camera stores.
I think for some people the almost lack of focus breathing is a very good reason to get the Meike instead of the Lumix.
Awesome review. Are you going to review the Meike 55 1.8 Pro?
that was my plan, but something seems went wrong with the first batch so i never received the sample
oh and thank you so much Carlo!
Is it the first third party lens for L mount? Or is Meike part of the L mount alliance?

impressive lens by Meike
Meike has improved a lot!
But you're not buying it...
Do you mean CA or LOCA?
62mm, not 67mm, filter thread is a bummer.
@@frankfeng2701 you could consider using a step up ring, only potential issue is the original lens hood may not work (I have not test it myself)
