The line about Merc's "last pack of smokes" makes more sense if you consider the radio report in the chapter Heat where they say the ban on tobacco products will not be lifted, thus making cigarettes a valuable rarity.
"Pick up the pace," Jacknife says as he casually teleports a short distance to gain the advantage. Should have used classic runner training for project Icarus. Game would be unbeatable.
@@BrecklynFast hilarious! Also, the pack of smokes makes sense because if you pay attention there's a ban on cigarettes going on according to the radio!
It was most likely removed as there was no Kreeg in the game. I'm assuming it was that black guy we saw once at the end of Chapter 2 but never again? Maybe he was supposed to have a bigger role at first.
@@lunadashie4642 Catalyst just... doesn't give the same feel with the first game, And still, Mirror's Edge should have gone ended and didnt need any reboots or sequels
@@lunadashie4642 I like both separately tbh, like I’ll admit Catalyst Faith maybe has a better arc because she goes from naive, stubborn and arrogant to humble and trusting/kinder. Original Faith sort of starts out already at her best so while she’s very likeable, her character doesn’t really evolve much besides reconnecting with Kate.
Some of it seems strange to remove, but there are some lines that didn't feel like they fit with Faiths character, and some of the lines felt like they we're delivered by a completely different character entirely.
Out of pure guess I'd say it might have been a last minute creative choice?; Maybe they wanted the world to feel more atmospheric by making it more quiet; these few little dialogues make the game feel so much more expressive and colorful, while the world setting visually is the absolute opposite. However, I can't say I would agree with that choice if that were indeed the case. I kind of doubt it was just a timing thing since it seems so easy to me to implement the lines if they were already recorded.. but I don't know how high grade gaming development works.
I agree with Will Cook's opinion on why the dialogue was cut from the final product. I would like to add that maybe it was also because the city Mirror's Edge takes place in is heavily governed and monitored. That could mean Faith and Merc couldn't be too chatty, because they could leak important information and blow their cover.
This is the most awesome thing i heard for a long while. I would love a community expansion of the game for like making a good 20-22 level and giving the lore more detail overall. Also i would just pay to make the voice actors come back for more lines and dialogue.
The fact the workers are kept in the blind about what they are doing (I think there's a quote about that...) could be an in-game reason why the cops at the end bail out.
Some of the voice lines I felt they shouldve kept in but I'm glad they removed others, you felt more in touch with the environment and plus it didnt make sense to talk that much during fights and or running
There's one or two I might have kept, but I'm kinda glad most of these were cut. Especially in sections with a lot of tension like in the runner training facility
I'm glad they went with the less talkative Faith. I like the extra dialogue, but listening to jacknife heckling you the entire chase scene would've gotten old, fast
i think it would have made a lot of sense for those lines to only trigger whenever you're leaving Jacknife waiting. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the original plan as hearing him talk so clearly while he's running as fast he can (to show off, of course) seems somewhat odd anyhow
Maybe they didn't add the dialogues because they mixed in with the breathing? Artistic choice? We'll likely never know, but I sure think they're great!
I'm glad they removed them, they didn't fit the time or the atmosphere at all. The only ones I wish they kept in are the the "what an idiot" one, and the one about Merc's cigarettes.
Also two not included in this mod from the start of Prologue: -"This is a city of reflections, so many reflections that we hardly know the real one anymore. The life has been sucked out of this place, now all that's left is a Pristine, Sugar-Coated Lie." (Related - The beta photos and first trailer had much prettier, more reflective glass than the final game, hence the name "Mirror's Edge") -The final boss battle with Jacknife. Considering that, I think he was meant to be a really annoying character. The one about "Catching Up" Had to go, the rooftop boss battle really shoulda stayed. "Come On!"
Most of these are kind of lame and the final game was probably better for having cut them but the line about the runners' radio communications being not fully secure but taking too long to decrypt to be useful to the authorities helps explain the fridge logic of why runners are still necessary to deliver sensitive info even though they have radios to communicate with each other. I also like the last pack of smokes line and wish that one hadn't been cut.
Faith and Merc were apparently supposed to be WAY chattier.

This should be in the full game so that we have a better bond with the characters and better understanding of the story. BTW, 3:39 was touching..
It would've made it more immersive and a better told game. the writing is fantastic!
