Excellent video. Straight to the point without 30 minutes of nonsense talking about your dog or your other projects. Much appreciated for not wasting our time. Excellent!
Because some people know everything removing a trans case or transmission or engine to them it isnt hard to do for them. I thank you!!! for taking the time to even care about those who don't partake in the world of the mechanic.
Thank you for your viedo it helped me understand how to change my transfer case. I just have 1 question how do you check a used transfer case to see if it is worth buying or if it works. It is on a 99 dodge ram 1500 sport
I was mostly impressed with the Milwuakee collection - lol! This was very helpful though, I'm about to attempt my first t-case tear down on a 98 ram 1500.
I have a 3/4 ton 4x4. I need to replace the overdrive housing and I can't get the transfer case separated from the overdrive housing. I took the 2 components off the vehicle as an assembly. Any suggestions on how to separate the two components? Great video by the way!
This is great thanks for the video I got a 95 ram 1500 but pretty much looks the same underneath I need to figure out what the hell is grinding under my truck could be Trans only grinds under load though when pressing gas
Overdrive unit on transmission has a wavy snap ring that’s common to break and make all kinds of noise. Costs about 12$ at a trans parts store and takes a day to do the whole job if it’s your first time. If you aren’t strong I recommend getting a trans Jack to put it back in, I had no issue removing it without one but putting it back up was a pain. If I had to do it again I’d get a trans jack just for installation. Then again, I have a 3/4 ton with the hd transfer case so I’m know it’s a bit heavier. Btw no need to remove transmission for this job, just remove transfer case then you can’t unbolt overdrive unit.
After watching this video 2 or 3 times before starting. I’ll say… Just as easy as it looks. Only thing I’d have add is this. When going for the bottom bolts of the Tcase unbolt the rubber bushing between the trans Mount and bracket. Jack up the back of the Tcase to create enough space and fit a wrench to drop the bracket. That should give you enough room to fit your wrench. Ratchet wrenches will be your best friend for majority of this job. If you’re situation is similar to mine where you cant go in to 4H/L at all to keep the front shaft from spinning you can unbolt it at the front dif and slide the whole thing out to the rear. Did this whole thing including removing both drive shafts in 2.5 hours with it parked on the street on a hot summer day in Vegas. Never touched a trans or Tcase before in my life…. Let alone a diesel. With a clear Sunday and a replacement on hand ready to go you could probably RNR this in 4.
Hey so I’m swapping the tranny in my 99’ ram 1500 and got the driveshafts off and working on the transfer case currently but I stopped because i noticed some connections missing, could some of these connections cause the transmission not to shift?
Even though you drained it, did fluid still drip out when you split the 2? Is it 100% necessary to drain the transmission or did you drain it just because?
Wait, you missed the part where you have to remove all the mud and cow shit covering the bolts in order to get them off 🤣 I need to find better parts trucks...
It goes to the CAD (central axle disconnect) on the front axle if I remember right. I believe red is disengage and black is engage. Not 100% sure if I'm correct on this it's been awhile, someone correct me if I'm wrong or give it a quick Google I'm sure you'll find your answer.
Ok I got the job done, your video was much appreciated when removing the linkage. I was swearing at it until I grabbed my channel locks... Then I swore less. No blood, but I did drop the entire thing on my ring finger. Now I'm single for tonight.
Is this some kind of a joke? The Dodge Ram that I removed transfer case from has a cross member with a block on top..attached to the bottom of transfer case. That was the worst part of the whole job. He somehow left that part out. Yes..8 bolts and some vacuum lines would have been easy..but you'll need to watch another video to actually remove your transfer case. Maybe the 98 is a lot different. As far as I know..the 94-01 is the same.
You don't need to remove the crossmember to remove the t case, the block you are talking about is attached to the back of the trans. Unless you have an aftermarket crossmember supporting the t case but not really a common thing to do. So no, it's not a joke, you just gotta know what you are doing so you don't create more work for yourself.

Thanks for the video. My favorite part is that it’s a 5 minute vid…right to the point and no bullsheet
Thank you for the detail! I'm about to pull mine out and needed to make sure I don't miss anything and yank it off. Thanks again!
3 people apparently couldn't figure out driveshafts, one bushing, 5 vacuum lines, and 6 nuts. LOL Great video!
Thank you for your viedo it helped me understand how to change my transfer case.

I had a hell of a time getting those front drive shaft bolts off at the TC.
I realize this is a 2 year old video, but thanks. I have a vibration in my rear driveshaft and this will help with me getting it removed

Bro you have some awesome informational videos, man I really appreciate it
Subscribed purely for what you said about the flashlight. My favorite milwaukee tool as well
Thanks man. Yeah it's for sure my most used tool, gotta have good light
This video was great. Clear and efficient. Thank you.
Thanks getting ready to pull one off at pick n pull
4 yrs on, you saved my bacon... thx
What tool did you use to remove the bottom nut??

Nice Arsenal of Tools! Milwaukee is The Best
👍👍🙂

did you ever figure this out? I am getting a grind in my ford under load or downshifting. Im thinking has to be transfer case.
@@rob_v_nj I wish I figured it out lol I haven’t looked Into it I think mine is also my transfer though
Could simply be your u-joints. Usually grind under load, and sometimes a vibration along with the grind.

Good Job ! You made it look easy > Bye The way > Cool Tools also !!

That top center bolt was a beeeatch.
You made that sh!+ look super simple and easy.....but a great video....i know the one on my 04 1500 isnt going to come out that easily!
How did it go I have to replace mine currently same year
I just snapped mine in half :( time to learn how to take it apart
Can the 4 block go back on the wrong way
Thanks man I learned something appreciate it
Could i take a transfer case off and put a 2wd unit into a 4x4 46re?
I had one bolt blocked by the transmission mount bracket, had to remove brace.
Do you have to bleed or is that just an extra step
you should to get all the air out, doesnt take long to do
Ok and did you have to fill the tcase or trans after the split and have you done a input shaft
@@austinyocham8136 trans yes, t case no. no i havent done the input in it.

No, trans and t case don't communicate
Unless he meant cause it not to shift into 4x4....vacuum lines control the transfer case engagement I'd assume...
did you drain the transmission or keep the fluid in?
drained it
Even though you drained it, did fluid still drip out when you split the 2? Is it 100% necessary to drain the transmission or did you drain it just because?
This will also work for a 1996 dodge ram 1500 correct?
yup
Wait, you missed the part where you have to remove all the mud and cow shit covering the bolts in order to get them off 🤣
I need to find better parts trucks...
Screw the parts trucks, I have to do it on my daily 🤦♂️
What does the red vaccuum line do I. The video at 3:51 mins .. it's the red line bottom left side that is on the trans cross member
It goes to the CAD (central axle disconnect) on the front axle if I remember right. I believe red is disengage and black is engage. Not 100% sure if I'm correct on this it's been awhile, someone correct me if I'm wrong or give it a quick Google I'm sure you'll find your answer.
My grandpa taught me that if you don't bleed at some point, you didn't do a good job lol.
Ok I got the job done, your video was much appreciated when removing the linkage. I was swearing at it until I grabbed my channel locks... Then I swore less.
No blood, but I did drop the entire thing on my ring finger. Now I'm single for tonight.
Surprising that there is no rear support on that transfer case
2008 dodge ram 1500 also?
It'd be very similar
Is this some kind of a joke? The Dodge Ram that I removed transfer case from has a cross member with a block on top..attached to the bottom of transfer case. That was the worst part of the whole job. Mine is a 98 3500 and it's like you say Will s.
@J-Bob's Garage I have same issue it like my case is shifted to the side a bit and I don't have room to get one of the bottom bolts off
i'm in that spot myself cant get the bottom bolt that plate is blocking and i have no room for wrench to enter the way he does
Remove the exhaust?
No
That was pretty yummy when you squeeze down on your wrench and your pinky started bleeding 😂😂
If anyone don't know how to remove drive shafts. They shouldn't be doing this work
👍
