The Olympic games in Rio were magic! The arena is huge; the routines, splendid; the crowd was amazing, supporting the ladies as I've never seen in previous Olympic games. Great times!
after watching spain being flawless in both their rutines and seing russia make so many mistakes in the first one and still get the gold i'm seriusly hearbroken for spain.
My favorite sports in the Olympics have always been gymnastics, diving and swimming but always gymnastics first. I always thought rhythmic gymnastics was a watered down version of real gymnastics for athletes who couldn’t get to the higher elite tiers but now I see I was incorrect. In all fairness though they don’t do much for themselves as a sport as far as PR goes. People either don’t realize it exists or know very little about the sport. Why aren’t these amazing athletes talked about much or get much advertisement if at all? I just happened to come across this video and I’m blown away. This looks beautiful and extremely difficult. It’s enchanting and lovely to watch. I can’t imagine how hard getting all of that down to perfection would be. I get tangled up just trying to use a roll of scotch tape.

I really think judges wanted Russia to win pretty bad, I accept Russia's second routine was far better than any other team but Spain deserve more than 17.9 for their 2nd routine, just because they went first to perform, judges were more stingy with their scores, they definitely deserved at least between 18.2-18.4

Russia’s 3+2 routines are always the most interesting and amazing to watch! It was the same in the 2012 Olympics. Their 5 Ribbons routine can be easily removed from history (especially those awful leotards), but their 2 hoops + 6 clubs routine is amazing!

Russia made several mistakes in there 5 ribbon routine…. I know they came back 100% stronger and smashed it with their clubs and Hoop routine…BUT Spain and Bulgaria didn’t make any mistake…. In both of their routines/ Me personally I thought Russia deserved the Silver Medal not the gold medal. Which makes me assume they could’ve given Yana the gold medal and not to Margarita…. Why so forgiving to the Russian team in the group all round and not Yana in the individual event….I mean it just doesn’t make sense! Plus she only made one mistake instead of several. I don’t want the excuse of because of the difficulty! Yana had more difficulty in her hoop, ball, club and ribbon routine then Margarita’s
I love this sport so much! I am a little confused, however, at why the commentators thought Ukraine's leotards looked "more like costumes than competition attire". To me they looked more athletic than the Russian's ribbon outfits, for instance, is there something I'm missing? I was a figure skater, where we have deductions for "illusion of excessive nudity"...
I also liked that outfit... what's wrong with that? They looked perfect to me...and Ukrainian team's performance was also fantastic...they were unlucky...

Either the Russian Federation was scored too high for their performance or many other groups were under scored. Spain was mesmerizing. They should have been so much higher than Russia than they were.
I’ve never seen this sport before and coming from an unbiased point (I usually root for USA or Mexico or Guatemala), I think Italy and Russia were just spectacular.
Russia really got a gift on that ribbons routine. They struggled with that performance all season and this was one of their weakest outings. They had an obvious drop at the beginning and multiple clear fumbles and aborted tosses. The judges did them a huge favor, allowing them to take the lead with a brilliant 3+2 performance, which was really well done. But that they were able to win primarily off the strength of one performance is not a great look. 😬

I feel like with artistic sports that whatever country provides the most funding will get special favours for them. If one year say New Zealand miraculously became amazing and did the best routine anyone has ever seen they would still not even qualify because how much funding do they give to the sport? It's sad because no one want to watch sports where the same people win no matter what.

I'm italian, and in our 5 robbons' routine there's a knot, a drop of a stick and a ribbon (but not the stick) still on the floor. So both Russia and Italy made errors. So proud of Bulgaria, and I think Spain deserved the gold medal.

Quien falla no debería ser campeón, no pasa en la gimnasia artística ni en el patinaje artístico. Por muchas dificultades que lleven si fallan no ganan el oro. Y para colmo las rusas después de fallar con las cintas llevaban el cuello del maillot desabrochado lo que es penalizable, pero las jueces hicieron la vista gorda, si hubiera sido otro país lo hubieran penalizado seguro, ya ha pasado más de una vez en la historia de la rítmica.

I’m a competitive dancer and I’m equally confused as well especially with the scoring. I thought it was unfair to say the least

Italy has been robbed of the bronze medal, no question or doubt. Podium should’ve been Spain, Bulgaria and Italy with Russia justly finishing fourth (or even lower) - as their first routine was faulty af (them not getting any penalties for their mistakes is total BS).

I'm italian, and in our 5 robbons' routine there's a knot, a drop of a stick and a ribbon (but not the stick) still on the floor. So both Russia and Italy made errors.
So proud of Bulgaria, and I think Spain deserved the gold medal.

Quien falla no debería ser campeón, no pasa en la gimnasia artística ni en el patinaje artístico. Por muchas dificultades que lleven si fallan no ganan el oro. Y para colmo las rusas después de fallar con las cintas llevaban el cuello del maillot desabrochado lo que es penalizable, pero las jueces hicieron la vista gorda, si hubiera sido otro país lo hubieran penalizado seguro, ya ha pasado más de una vez en la historia de la rítmica.
