This is amazing, I had countless lessons and couldn’t fix my scooping/flipping action, until I saw this video. I’m the later of the two and always had the start straight and go left . Today I took this to the course and had cut/ fade. My usual playing partners couldn’t believe my solid consistency in my contact. I’m off 14 not for long as I shot 4 over the first 9 and even the next 9. Thanks so much Eric !! What a great teacher you are. Happy days
@@CogornoGolf Working hard on it. This video was an important missing puzzle piece toward understanding how a few of my flaws fit together. It's all starting to make a little more sense. Your twisting concept I think is better explained as trying to keep the face pointed perpendicular to the swing plane. (as explained starting at 2:00 of this video ua-cam.com/video/-mO7s9E_7xA/v-deo.html). Great stuff! Keep it up!
I’ve had this exact issue and done these exact drills/feels. It feels like I’m trying to hit a little punch hold off fade all the time. But it absolutely works. Love the trajectory. Love how solid impact feels. Always used to fight wipey weak fades.
I do! Although it feels less and less exaggerated as time passes. The difference between feel and reality never ceases to amaze me when making swing changes.
i see this problem on so many of the vids posted on FB. this is a very good drill i hope many will watch. i never was a flipper but at one time i was an over rotator, if that's a word. too much forearm rotation at impact. yeah, it got me more yards but also a big hook that took years to fix. love the "twist away" thing you do. i don't think many are aware of that
Lifetime flipper and have played decently because I could time it well. That’s history. I’m going to start down this path and confident it will help. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks, Eric.
I'm an expert at the flip which unfortunately leads to a straight left bad shot pattern. Great vid thanks, stronger grip and face and better rotation seems to be a great fix
Great tip here Eric. Thanks for sharing. Regarding your set up, where would you say to play the ball in your stance based on the iron used in the video?(i think that looks to be an 8 or 9 iron). Thanks and keep sharing awesome content!!
Very well explained. When I tried to "twist away" in the backswing, all my balls went way left and I abandoned this tip. Now I understand that it's key to accept that you have to have the sensation that you are holding the hands ahead for ever, as I have the habit of flipping.
Okay, follow-up video should be the proper release through impact. You're going to have some folks who will just hold on to that angle, and they'll bleed distance. Something like "How The Forearms And Wrists Move Through Impact."
Great video and something that Ive struggled with, but I too have had good timing with the flip but on bad days it can be a two way miss. Ive been working on drills and Golf tec instructors and can see an improvement but not as profound as the practice I have been doing from watching your videos. Best instruction I’ve seen! Would this work for the Driver the same way or would you be wanting it to release earlier just past impact instead of the feeling of holding it off as with the irons? Thanks again
Glad this is helping! Same idea with driver IF your club face is too open. The reality is it depends some on speed. The slower the speed the more you will likely need a little flip motion to have enough loft to high it high enough Check out this one you will like this....read through comments on questions about driver I go into more detail ua-cam.com/video/lr8JV6ShmRI/v-deo.html
Hey Jordan! Yep thats one option... I go through the options to close the face in order here: ua-cam.com/video/fCW9W_lGQtM/v-deo.html&pp=ygUzRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vICMxIHNraWxsIGNvbnNpc3RlbnRseSBjbG9zZSBjbHViIGZhY2Ug
I've been dealing with this issue for as long as I've been recording myself. I have tried plenty of drills and suggestions but the flip never goes away, funny thing is that when I have videoed myself doing a practice swing (front view) at the same speed I can see plenty of shaft lean, I have also videoed myself from the back during my practice swing and I can clearly see the club face square at impact, so having an open face is not my problem. Something happens in my brain the second the ball is in the middle of my swing and can't seem to get it to stop. I think I have mental block rather than a swing flaw. Any other suggestions?
Hey David! Yes I have heard this many times before---lots of suggestions----send swings to www.cogornogolf.com so we can see whats going on and how to fix!
Your dead right mate. You're not realising anything your just pulling your arms maintaining lag through impact. So many of us amatures feel "power" with this early release false feeling. Great vid 👍Best Ball striker of all time Moe Norman always said "I don't release the club..."
Great topic. What I have found in my swing is that when hold on I loose tons of yardage. I can't generate enough club head speed. Thoughts? Thanks Eric.

Thanks for the kind words! So glad this one helped your game!
Some of your best work work in this one.
I think the key is to understand how closed you need to be in the downswing.
Well done, Eric.
Appreciate it! Thanks so much for watching!
This is exactly what I have been working on to cure my flip, starting to see improvement and much better ball striking.
Love it! You're heading in the right direction Jarrod
Thank you!! Great coach!!
Appreciate it, Paul! Thank you!
I needed these tips bad. I have a tendency to flip the club and these tips should help. Thanks Eric.
Our pleasure my friend!
Great tip. This has been a struggle of mine for a long time!
Get it fixed my friend! Make sure face is square to closed first then make look at pivot/rotation
Great video. It's exactly what I've been fighting for the last year or so.
Lets get it fixed man!

Excellent....do you still do it now?
I do! Although it feels less and less exaggerated as time passes. The difference between feel and reality never ceases to amaze me when making swing changes.
Me too

Hope it does in fact help, Rick! Thanks for being with us!
Thank you as this is of great help and very necessary for me to practice. Very clearly explained as usual. Very much appreciated.
you got it, Rich!

Yessir!
Sigh….such a good instructor. So much said in such a short time.
Oh….and I was a lifetime flipper until you showed me the way(s).
:) Hope it helps!
Great video Eric THANK YOU!!
Appreciate it! Our pleasure!
This is literally the number one way to teach anyone how to swing properly.
:)

Under left eye/left ear....just forward of sternum.
Hey Eric, thank you. What if it’s a club path issue, too far from the inside? What do I do and what’s the drill? Do you have a video for path?
Yep

Yes....exactly! Those feels should look VERY good on camera if you are normally someone who has a more open face and is flippy

Thanks for the feedback!
Nice one. I’m the one that has a closed club face, still flips and hits it left. Sigh. But good tips to fix that.
Thanks! Hope it helps my friend!👊

Agree with the shaft lean at setup. Club's design requires it.
Yup
Good techno ....

Thanks, Steven!
Can it really be fixed with a super strong grip? Seems like madness but it checks out.

At the risk of being extremely narcissistic, I think you did this video just for me. Thanks for the great content as usual.
Dean Reed, shhhh! We didn't want the other viewers to know we made this video just for you! 😉😂
:)
Does a flip not increase clubhead speed and distance?
Not if your club face is open or you have too much loft
"Square" is based (visually) by the bottom line (sole?) or top line of the face? Most of us probably go by the sole line.
Bottom line is what Im referencing
Same with driver?
Yep! Especially if your club face is OPEN
already……the more open it is, the more you
need this...the less open, the less obviously. All clubs👍

Don't hold on...let it release more....just make sure you match other pieces to that (probably face not super closed)
Spot on but if you don't open the hips the ball will go to the left big time
That would be a huge upgrade for 80% of golfers I see on the range over the past decade
