Just wanted to send a huge thank you for this video. I was "the slice king" on the course before watching this! I came across this video the other day and was amazed as it was clear and concise on how to fix your driver swing. Today I was hitting bombs, all thanks to this info! I was averaging 260+ straight as an arrow. My best drive was on a Par 4 that was 275 yards out and I hit the green. Signing up for your course this week.

What an incredible couple of tips for a truly instant fix. My shot shape with driver is a fade but when I get tired I lose the swing thoughts and that can turn into a slice. I use a Sim 2 10.5 with a ventus black velocore 6x. It is a driver built for a big power fade. A real turbo booster but I love that tip of pointing the driver face down in the backswing. I also crank my sleeve up .5 degrees to slightly close the face and that is a tremendous advantage. But you are dead on the money about the open club face
Literally worked within half a dozen drives. From consistently slice drives to instantly gaining draw. So simple but totally effective. Thanks for sharing the technique to change 🙌

Eric, great pointers. Just recently realized my grip has been too weak, leaving 0 % chance for me to square the clubface at impact. My miss directed tee shots with the driver were unpredictable, sometimes, dead pulls, or sometimes slices. I will now pay attention,to keep the clubface slightly downward on the back swing. Pretty simple concepts ,which I ‘m sure will fix my slice. Thank you for your knowledge!

Just got back from the range, and was pleasantly surprised. On my setup, I went with the vee out to my right shoulder and it looked odd. It was so odd in fact, that I adjusted back to a slightly weaker grip. The result was a slice. I finally swallowed my pride and moved the vee out to my right shoulder and the difference was amazing. I would estimate that 80% of the remaining drives were straight. I will need to hit the range several more times before I'm 100% convinced, but for now I am super excited. Imagine how much easier golf will be, when I playing my second shot from the fairway instead of the forest. Thanks Eric!!!!
Nice and clear! Really trying to fix this at the moment and practice swings end up being very different to my actual swing when hitting the ball. Thanks
Great instruction. I can't wait to try this because I recently "fixed" my slice by moving my right wrist further up over my left thumb (basically two Vs in opposite directions); it worked for a while but is really uncomfortable so I'm inconsistent. It definitely feels more natural to have the right wrist lower. Thank you :)
Hi Eric, great video...liked the simple methods on curing the slice. Just hoping you could show the trajectory lines when you do your swings....it would be much cooler. Thanks
Eric I used your advice on handle forward and up and I hit draws at times but I have one hole I pull pull pull. Can’t get off the tee. Because I come over the top. I can still carry 270 with this but it’s inconsistent in direction. Saw the backswing I have is in the perfect slot, but I come over the top on the down so I’m trying now to keep same setup but reverse the loop. Tried manipulate everything over the 2 and half years I’ve played and couldn’t hit a draw you’ve got me in that with accidentally finding that tip of yours.

One frustrating aspect of golf is when you stop falling on one side of the bicycle, you start falling on the other side of the bicycle. Lol It's really a game of balance.
Great tips. When I focus on feeling that the club face is pointing down I hit my FWs straight. If I don't feel it, it's a slice. I'm trying to teach my brother not to start his backswing by rotating his wrists with his driver because that opens his club face and he massively slices it. I've a hard time reaching him though. I'll show him this video and film him.
Hey Eric, you do a fantastic job with the mechanics to fix a slice. Question, I am assuming that once I get the ball hooking left then I have to make adjust and tweets to get it straight? Is this correct? Again everything you said makes sense great job. John
Thats correct! Fix the face first....then make the path more from inside and get some shaft learn to get back to straight I talk about the phases of this here: ua-cam.com/video/cyMv0ChVoj4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/BFtUnTytOkI/v-deo.html
One other tip and I’ll stop blowing up the comments, because I’m not a pro. But I think we get in trouble with typical thinking of in to out. We whip it inside and that’s going make us come over the top. I haven’t used it yet but reverse loop would encourage the side bend that we don’t get either, meaning usually the path on the way back isn’t explained to us properly. It’s more out in out. The out to start the backswing I feel for me encourages depth/width that I wouldn’t get, then it comes in and gets more connected to me would encourage the trail side to start to tilt or get side bend. Then last part is just release to the right or out. Any thoughts on that?
The FEELs will really depend on WHERE the player is currently at. Going INSIDE or OUTSIDE on the way back ONLY MATTERS to the degree that it effects the downswing path.... Ive seen every combination under the sun and each present their own pros and cons Always checkin on video to confirm FEELS vs REALS key
I was told I had a weak grip. But I was just an ex Baseball player having fun for the last 25 years. Didn’t much care to fix my slice. I Used to shoot anywhere from 87-95. Never got any better than that. The new grip is still very awkward and foreign to me. Some muscles are aching in wrists. But I have straightened out my drives more and sometimes 20-25 yards longer, Mostly down the left side to middle of the fairway with a draw. Rarely slice anymore. Which used to be a regular occurs for. Still working out the kinks. And I find myself having to force my self to think my way into the new grip. But I have added yardage to my drives. Sure makes it easier using a 7 or 8 iron than having to use my 5 or 6 iron. Shot an 85 first time out and did t really hit any putts. I find myself now improving shooting 84-90 on same courses. Haven’t really hit any putts yet. I have never broken 80 on a legit course. So now I got to figure out the putting.
Sounds like you are heading in the correct direction my friend! Hope you get under 80 like you want!! Make sure you practice your short game accordingly! Here is our short game practice routine: ericcogornogolf.podia.com/eric-cogorno-s-short-game-practice-bundle
Thanks man! I do! Honestly I have done extensive testing on grips and have not found anything conclusive. Interlock, overlap and baseball all can be effective. Whats most important is where the club lays in your hand
@@CogornoGolf Thank you... so I just tried what you suggest in this video and played 9 holes WITH NO SLICE!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! The root issue for me was with my wrist and your video solved that! So great. Really appreciate it.
Hoping you are still commenting here as I'm looking at joining your site. My main issue is I tend to close the club at the very top of the swing (last second before downswing). I've worked a long time on fixing this and have had some progress but the issue is I'm SO used to the club being closed at the top that I don't know how to release the club with my longer clubs so I tend to end up with my hands way in front at impact to hold the face open essentially. I had fixed the closed at the top issue at one point but still hit big low slices as I wasn't releasing the club. Is there anything else you recommend? I want to try the stronger grip with the v pointing more back and less forearm rotation in the backswing but I'm worried my issue is more about releasing the club/last second closing of the clubface at the top of the backswing.
Hey T P! Thanks for the message. Unfortunately I can't really make a specific suggestion for you without seeing your swing. I would be making too many guesses and assumptions... As you mentioned if you join www.cogornogolf.com we can put a plan together once we can see what's going on and discuss more... You would be looking at 1. Grip 2. Wrist angles 3. Arm rotation To the top to see the face alignment Then the same coming down to match whatever face alignment you have at top......and to whatever ball flight you want. Its all "fixable" but have to see
I like Eric’s instruction, but there is also a gear effect slice of the driver. You could do everything right with club face and still slice it if you hit more towards the heel.
Pro tip: Towel works WONDERS for your drive slice as well. Try putting a towel between arms and doing a half back swing and follow through. Teaching yourself to keep those arms tucked and solid will improve your slice almost instantly
You can IF you want the shaft more vertical going back. If you want it more horizontal you would have elbow more toward target. Both of those apply for irons and driver
Eric, I’ve had some success in hooding the club at address, however I have to listen to everyone tell me that I’m hooding the club when I occasionally pull one left. How is this any different than essentially rolling my wrist closed during take away like you recommend? I have a a simulator now and I’m convinced that most of my problems are club face alignment at impact. It can make it two Club difference with essentially what I think is the same swing. Appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks
Eric. Would you ever have to have a different strength grip for different clubs? And if I hit all these check marks and still slice, would that mean it's a path problem? New to golf and just found you. Thx for response.
Hey Ashton! I would not change grip for different clubs. One grip for all clubs. IF still slicing could be setup issue (body too open (left), ball too forward, too over the top, etc)....would really have to see to say for sure Join www.cogornogolf.com $49/mo so you can send me in your swings.....will make a HUGE difference in your improvement!
Eric, everything you say here makes a lot of sense. The problem I am having is I can get the ball going straight with my driver when I am at the driving range because I can make the adjustments. On the tee box I still have a problem with the ball going way right or way left. Also, I am a senior and I have lost 50 to 60 yards on my drives and I have really started skying the ball (hit it really high and losing distance.) In other words my drives are all over the place. Any advice? Very frustrating..
Hey Dottie! Thanks for the message and question. Its a good question and I feel your pain! The reality is I cannot offer any good advice without seeing your swing on video. There are just too many variables that could be causing this. The good news is once you find the real root causes of the issues you should be able to fix this issue and hit on the course just as good on range. Join us at www.cogornogolf.com if you don't get it sorted out as you can send in your swings there for feedback and we can fix this for you!
@@CogornoGolf Hi Eric, Thank you for getting back to so quickly. I found the problem. I watched your video again and again I found that I was cupping my risk at the top. Once I worked on that the swing fell into place. Very straight and more distance. Also, my name is John. For some reason when I respond to youtube it attaches my wife Dottie address. Technology??? Thanks again John
Hi Eric annother great video. Please can you clarify this: strong grip usually leads to slicing, not ?!! because the lead hand is already turned more inside at adress. Thus, how to roll down this hand in order to assure a closed club head. It's just impossible for me. thxs for your comment. Beat
My first thing I did was strong grip but still hit to the right. As a slicer so many years I’ve came to realize a lot of us maybe ok with just finding a release. I held the club off.
Eric, I don't slice (i.e. swing out to in and set the ball off left with a big fade back to the right) but I hit big pushes or worse push fades, so from your video I assume I'm hitting in to out with an open club face. Do the same fixes apply?
I tried this super strong grip , 4 knuckles right hand under. Keeping Face pointed to ground. My driver pushed right and then sliced 75 yards 90 degrees right lol
Eric, I swing out to in (I've seen it on video) but I don't slice particularly (more a gentle fade) - However I do think my swing delivers a glancing blow and robs me of distance. Should I try this any way? I'm guessing that if the club path is travelling across the ball and then then the ball goes straight the club face must be open?
Hey Ian! Thats up to you really.... The pro would be you have a predictable pattern The con would be perhaps you are losing distance I would run through this protocol: ua-cam.com/video/cyMv0ChVoj4/v-deo.html
Question, and I go back and forth on this a lot, but if you address the ball with a closed club face and take a neutral grip, is that the same as a normal address with a strong grip? Might help to grab a club to feel what I’m talking about, but if you were to take the neutral grip with closed club face and make the club sit normal at address your grip would become strong anyway, but neutral grip is much more comfortable, so curious about whether that’s a viable option.
Hey Michael! If you have been slicing thats just want you want. I wouldn't rush out of it...I would keep hooking it for about a month. then come back and I will show you how. Try and fix too early and you will get your slice right back
@@CogornoGolf Ha! Exactly. I've sent him many of your vids; angle of attack, don't sway/keep stable base. But it ALL comes down to; I'm not keeping my head down...I've given up.
I want to know why a neutral grip still produces a slice. I dont want to hold the club uncomfortably to patch my slice. I want to understand the primary issue.
Hey! If you have a neutral grip and you still slice.....that means SOMETHING ELSE is causing your club face to be open to the path. Generally if not grip thats either 1. Wrist angles/release 2. Arm rotation I go over how to fix those in order here: ua-cam.com/video/fCW9W_lGQtM/v-deo.html&pp=ygUxRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vICMxIHNraWxsIGNvbnNpc3RlbnRseSBjbG9zZSBjbHViZmFjZQ%3D%3D And this one goes through how you can start practicing it: ua-cam.com/video/Uxw4BcB_RZM/v-deo.html
Hey Sam! Send a message to service@performancegolfzone.com They will get it sorted for you If you have any issues please email me at eric@cogornogolf.com and I will call them directly for you
Kind of.... The ball curves based on the FACE TO PATH. The more the face is open to path the more slice The more the face is closed to path the more hook The ball starts in between the face and path
A strong grip feels horrible to me. Can't hit thru the ball. Very restrictive for me. I hit my irons well even my 3 iron with a neutral grip. Would love to know what inflection my wrists need to be in order to hit it well.
No worries.....lots of great players with weaker grip you just need to match the wrists/release like these ua-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/8Cg2O8atmYY/v-deo.html
This is a great lesson. I have a supreme banana. Never knew how to open or close my face. I took your advice to the driving range twice and started hooking it.Two buckets. How many buckets do I need to hook? Thanks.
Excellent! How many buckets do you need to hook? -Can happen in a few balls if done correctly. I would keep hooking it for awhile if coming from a slice
Nothing wrong with a fade imo. I used to play a cut as my primary shot, but have started playing both ways like I did at 16. I think path and face are key to either, but controlling them is usually a more complex task. Idk, but either way I don't think there's anything wrong with a fade, but you must play for it.
@@CogornoGolf Bubba Watson, no? He plays at my club....starts it at the houses and brings it back 50 yards...hits it 350...idk but he shot 64, was playing in front of me. Some people I guess can't handle a slice because it'll pull sometimes, but if it's consistently curving I don't see a problem with it.
Lol dude....how many golfers can hit a slice and hit it 350? 1....2....10 people on the planet? Come on now....what are we talking about here....a debate on whether a slice is good or not? Can 1 person play a slice...sure...how about the other 10 million? Stop it.
@@CogornoGolf Good points, but...I was using Watson as an example, not a model. My point was really to say that if it's consistently slicing 20 yards, and it's not all over the place, it's best to live with it, tee up on the right side of the teebox, aim left edge of the fairway, and play for it. People just aim straight, and go nuts trying to figure it out. In other words, if it slices 20 yards, but is consistently doing so, and it's not slicing one minute and pull hooking the next, then forget everything else and aim left.
For me, it's a tendency to roll my wrists on the takeaway. I have known this for a long time yet I am sometimes not aware that I have done it until I see my ball making that big banana in the sky. Jeez, I hate that. Kevin O'Rourke
This didn’t do a thing for my slice, I’ve literally watched 100’s of “slice fix” videos and none of them can clarify why I slice… guess no one can figure it out.
Damn.....hate to hear this Edward. You slice because you club face is open to that path. Have to find out WHY. Try this one: ua-cam.com/video/A_cgbstbMKU/v-deo.html&pp=ygUSRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHNsaWNl If that doesn't work try this one: ua-cam.com/video/llgmdwOPxx4/v-deo.html Here are your options to close your face more: ua-cam.com/video/fCW9W_lGQtM/v-deo.html&pp=ygUrRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGNvbnNpc3RlbnR5bHkgc3F1YXJlIGNsdWIgZmFjZQ%3D%3D
@@CogornoGolf I closed my clubface at address before gripping and it lets me lead with the driver handle and a squared clubface, and the ball goes dead straight. But, I’m wondering if it’s because I’m not letting my wrists release in time, and if I should go that way of a solution, instead of closing my clubface at address before gripping. What’s for sure, is strong grip is something I don’t ever want to change because I get way better power out of my swing. Thank you for the videos, I will give them a watch, i immensely appreciate your help!
Thanks for the feedback, Pierce! I've been coaching for 14 years now and I've never seen a slicer without an open club face.... Maybe that exists....I've just never seen nor heard of it. All the best
I tried to subscribe to your 15-shot technique to eliminate a slice but I was afraid I was going to die of old age before you got to the point --- that you kept saying you would disclose in the next minute. If the PGA had a clock on this video, you would be penalized for slow play.

Hey Eric, you do a fantastic job with the mechanics to fix a slice. Question, I am assuming that once I get the ball hooking left then I have to make adjust and tweets to get it straight? Is this correct? Again everything you said makes sense great job. John
Thats correct!
Fix the face first....then make the path more from inside and get some shaft learn to get back to straight
I talk about the phases of this here: ua-cam.com/video/cyMv0ChVoj4/v-deo.html

Video is very helpful awesome job man
Thanks, Ryan!
I will definitely be taking this to my next session!!
Hope it helps my friend---slice no more!!
Eric do you care about the position of your left thumb on a strong grip? Or are you just concerned you see 2-3 finger knuckles?
Hey Aaron...
I like to see the lead thumb down the right side of the shaft.....long thumb vs short thumb another conversation
Ive seen every combination under the sun and each present their own pros and cons
Always checkin on video to confirm FEELS vs REALS key
Eric...nice video. VERY clear. Do you interlock your grip? What are your thoughts on that?
Thanks man!
Excellent!
You would be looking at
1. Grip
2. Wrist angles
3. Arm rotation
To the top to see the face alignment
Then the same coming down to match whatever face alignment you have at top......and to whatever ball flight you want.
Its all "fixable" but have to see
I like Eric’s instruction, but there is also a gear effect slice of the driver. You could do everything right with club face and still slice it if you hit more towards the heel.
Thanks for the kind words and feedback, Charlie!
Pro tip: Towel works WONDERS for your drive slice as well.
Try putting a towel between arms and doing a half back swing and follow through.
Teaching yourself to keep those arms tucked and solid will improve your slice almost instantly
Love it
In another video you mentioned having your elbows point to your hips as a means to fix the backswing. Is it the same for driver?
You can IF you want the shaft more vertical going back. If you want it more horizontal you would have elbow more toward target. Both of those apply for irons and driver
Eric, I’ve had some success in hooding the club at address, however I have to listen to everyone tell me that I’m hooding the club when I occasionally pull one left. How is this any different than essentially rolling my wrist closed during take away like you recommend? I have a a simulator now and I’m convinced that most of my problems are club face alignment at impact. It can make it two Club difference with essentially what I think is the same swing. Appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks
Hey Jim!
Im OK if you hood at address.
Eric. Would you ever have to have a different strength grip for different clubs? And if I hit all these check marks and still slice, would that mean it's a path problem? New to golf and just found you. Thx for response.
Hey Ashton!
I would not change grip for different clubs. One grip for all clubs.
IF still slicing could be setup issue (body too open (left), ball too forward, too over the top, etc)....would really have to see to say for sure

Just got back from the range and my slice was gone after 5 swings - amazing advice - I’ve only been playing for 11 months - thank you!!
Excellent!
Excellent! Glad to hear that, John! Hope you continue to enjoy your golf!
May be this is my answer, will try it.
hope it helps!
Hi Eric annother great video. Please can you clarify this: strong grip usually leads to slicing, not ?!! because the lead hand is already turned more inside at adress. Thus, how to roll down this hand in order to assure a closed club head. It's just impossible for me. thxs for your comment. Beat
No-strong grip does not lead to slice.
My first thing I did was strong grip but still hit to the right. As a slicer so many years I’ve came to realize a lot of us maybe ok with just finding a release. I held the club off.
For sure
Eric, I don't slice (i.e. swing out to in and set the ball off left with a big fade back to the right) but I hit big pushes or worse push fades, so from your video I assume I'm hitting in to out with an open club face. Do the same fixes apply?
Hey Clive...I would really have to see a video of your swing to say for sure exactly what's happening.
Works well to eliminate push and slice. But the miss that creeps in when using this method is low and left so maybe I overdue it at times?
Thats correct. Good to do that to start then pull it back a little and do less over time to get back to neutral
I tried this super strong grip , 4 knuckles right hand under. Keeping Face pointed to ground. My driver pushed right and then sliced 75 yards 90 degrees right lol
Lol ruh roh!
hope you find solutions!
Awesome video
Thank you!
Thanks. Cheers.
Our pleasure, Thomas! hope it serves you well!

I am a retired baseball player trying to play golf. Hopefully this helps. Very frustrating to be able to hit a baseball straight but not a golf ball.
Hope it helps, Kyler! This stuff is all fixable! If you don't get it sorted try out www.cogornogolf.com so you can send in your videos!
The pro would be you have a predictable pattern
The con would be perhaps you are losing distance
I would run through this protocol: ua-cam.com/video/cyMv0ChVoj4/v-deo.html
Question, and I go back and forth on this a lot, but if you address the ball with a closed club face and take a neutral grip, is that the same as a normal address with a strong grip? Might help to grab a club to feel what I’m talking about, but if you were to take the neutral grip with closed club face and make the club sit normal at address your grip would become strong anyway, but neutral grip is much more comfortable, so curious about whether that’s a viable option.
No...not the same.
As you change grip it changes your wrist conditions, arm rotations, and arm structure.
Strengthen the grip.

Great video. I was able to hook some drives. So now how to get it straight? 😁
Hey Michael!
If you have been slicing thats just want you want. I wouldn't rush out of it...I would keep hooking it for about a month.
then come back and I will show you how.
Try and fix too early and you will get your slice right back
Eric Cogorno Golf but what if I’m about to go out and actually play? Don’t?
Play for the hook.
Eric Cogorno Golf what if I’ve done all three things in this video and still consistently slicing?
My 77 year old playing partner says: Don't lift your head... Apparently that solves EVERYTHING. Great vid, thanks!!!
just watched vid by Eric on head movement. STRONGLY suggest your partner watch it. It will amaze you what is cause. I will never again blame "my head"
Easy game :)
Generally if not grip thats either
1. Wrist angles/release
2. Arm rotation
I go over how to fix those in order here:
ua-cam.com/video/fCW9W_lGQtM/v-deo.html&pp=ygUxRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vICMxIHNraWxsIGNvbnNpc3RlbnRseSBjbG9zZSBjbHViZmFjZQ%3D%3D

Club face shapes it. Club path sends it.
Kind of....
The ball curves based on the FACE TO PATH.
The more the face is open to path the more slice
The more the face is closed to path the more hook
The ball starts in between the face and path
No. The FACE sends it. The ball curves AWAY from the PATH.
If you believe the ball takes off where your path is pointed, youre fucked.
A strong grip feels horrible to me. Can't hit thru the ball. Very restrictive for me. I hit my irons well even my 3 iron with a neutral grip. Would love to know what inflection my wrists need to be in order to hit it well.
No worries.....lots of great players with weaker grip you just need to match the wrists/release like these

Alright so a slice is cause by an open face relative to the path. The second cause is the heel strike because of the gear effect.
Yep

👍 thanks
This is a great lesson. I have a supreme banana. Never knew how to open or close my face. I took your advice to the driving range twice and started hooking it.Two buckets. How many buckets do I need to hook? Thanks.
Excellent!
How many buckets do you need to hook?
-Can happen in a few balls if done correctly.
I would keep hooking it for awhile if coming from a slice
I did these three things and looked OK. Then I early extended and hit a big slice 🤕
Good-now you know what to fix. Get it done.
Nothing wrong with a fade imo. I used to play a cut as my primary shot, but have started playing both ways like I did at 16. I think path and face are key to either, but controlling them is usually a more complex task. Idk, but either way I don't think there's anything wrong with a fade, but you must play for it.
100% fade is cool......slice isn't.
@@wx811 20 yard slice on a 200 yard drive is bad. 20 yard fade on 290 yard drive fine.
Does the grip apply to the irons as well?
Absolutely

@@CogornoGolf I closed my clubface at address before gripping and it lets me lead with the driver handle and a squared clubface, and the ball goes dead straight.
But, I’m wondering if it’s because I’m not letting my wrists release in time, and if I should go that way of a solution, instead of closing my clubface at address before gripping. What’s for sure, is strong grip is something I don’t ever want to change because I get way better power out of my swing.
