I daily drive a 2017 2500 limited megacab. It’s both my work truck and family hauler. Once you get used to backing into parking spots there’s no trouble at all. Even my wife likes driving it.
Thuren Suspension for leveling kit! I have the 2.5” leveling coils with Fox 2.0 shocks all around, stabilizer and adjustable track bar. Looks great and drives perfectly straight!
My 13 tradesman crew with 8’ bed, has been tow rig, daily, and child transport. I’ve been through cities from coast to coast. Bought it new in 13, still enjoy driving it now, in the Bay Area. Definitely drop tire pressure if unloaded. Not only will it help you grab in the wet, it will increase tire life. I run near 60 in the front, 55 in the rear. I also carry around 300 to 500lbs in the bed depending on the day. Congrats and enjoy getting two car seats in the back. We tested all the 3/4 ton options and the Ram had the best back seat and imo front layout for family travel by far(this was back in 13). When we take road trips, even without a trailer, my wife prefers the truck as do I.
I drive my 2018 Ram 2500 Tradesman Crew Cab 6.7l Cummins 2wd w/the 6-1/2d bed everyday. I have about a 6 mile commute each way. I average 17-18mpg city and 24-26mpg hwy depending on summer or winter fuel. I plug my truck in every night no matter the weather. She loves being nice and toasty when I start her up in the mornings, I don’t have much warm up at all, and she comes up to operating temps before I get to the office. I run 65 psi all around without a tow and she rides really nice. I do take her out once or twice a week for a 50-75 mile highway ride. I run hotshot secret additives religiously. So far I’m completely happy with the truck and she runs perfectly.
A little late to the comment, but have you had any major issues with driving a diesel that short of a commute? I current have a 1500 with the 5.7 hemi and have been thinking about getting a 2500 with the Cummins. My commute to work is about the same as yours one way
Enjoyed the video. I have a 17 Ram 1500 crew cab with the Hemi and love it, ..... but... I do dream often of driving a 2500 with the Cummins. For me, I have to say I have a bit of a “fear” of owning one, I guess based n the potential cost of repairs, although probably not rational. Anyway, good to hear someone talk about their own thoughts and experience of the subject. Maybe my next truck.....
Good video I think you're crazy to own one of them in Chicago if you're driving in Chicago traffic you need to at least get it on the highway once a week and put a truth spaces otherwise it's just going to get completely clogged up unless you have the emissions deleted also you mentioned door dings the first thing I did when I bought my truck was put on wide running boards
I live in a metropolitan area and I drove my 2017 Laramie CTD Crew on a daily basis. I agree that parking garages are not the best venue to park this truck. I leveled mine and it didn't raise the overall height but it did make me more conscious of that shark fin on the roof. I park on surface lots in spaces I can either pull through or back into. Yes, it is a big vehicle and in some ways that can be an issue. Conversely there's not too many rigs on the road that can block your view. :) I'm very comfortable driving it around suburbia and in traffic.
I daily drive my 2018 2500 ram megacab. It's also a laramie sport. She's a bus but she's the niciest riding bus I've ever driven. 6K miles on her so far. I took the trash Firestones off at 300 miles. I upgraded with LT295/60R20 ridge grapplers. It's basically a 34x11.50R20. No rub at all. The ridgies alone dramatically improve your ride. It's a good option if you're not in a hurry to pull the trigger on a level and wheels.
Yes the firestones are awful. I put Nitto Terra Grapplers on mine at about 20k. Night and day in the rain and snow. If I bought a new one I would do the same thing you did. Love the truck btw.
@@josemonreal09 I was up in the air between those and the terra grapples. I had the terra grapplers on another vehicle and liked them because they were quiet, but the ridge grapplers have awesome reviews. I might consider them for my next set.
Totally agree, today's trucks are pretty posh. They make great daily drivers, plenty of room, comfortable on long drives, lots of luxury features, etc... Plus, you can go play in the mud and tow stuff and make a trip to Home Depot for rocks and bails of mulch... They really do everything other than sporty rides on twisty roads... Or, as you mention, city living in Chicago and parking decks... But I wouldn't get caught dead living in Chicago so I don't have to worry about that. haha Hey, you coming to Atl next week right? I will be at the office on Tues and Wed. Will be good to catch up. I have a Superchips Flashpaq F5 tuner arriving on Monday, will try and flash it before I drive down. Supposed to add 25hp peak, but closer to 50hp under the curve and a solid tq increase as well. Hope to wake it up a bit, also does some optimized settings for the trans.

Love mine for daily driving. 2017 mega. Tows about 20 percent of its miles which is 26k at this point. Don’t think I’ll have a non diesel truck again. Had Ridge Grapplers for about 5k and sold them for something else. Wish I had kept them.
Blue Evolution 312 Well I kept my stockers and had another toy I wanted so I sold them. I had 35 12.5 on 20x9 +20 offset no lift. Trimmed the inner fender plastic and no rubbing. Looked good but just looked a little tight on the front so I have another set of Nittos ready to go on, waiting on a level kit.
Very ironic that I stumble upon your video, being that my wife is 1 week from our 2nd babies due date. I am in the process of deciding on buying a new 2500 Cummins. Leaning towards a mega cab even. How is your experience with the truck? Still have it? Hope all is well with your family.
I have the same truck so it’s cool watching cuz we’re going thru the same things. Is it bad to drive with the exhaust brakes at all times? Even when not towing.
with the newer DEF and DPF emissions parts on these trucks, i wanted to get a 2019 ford f250 with the 6.7l power stroke or 2019 ram 2500 with the 6.7l cummins, i don’t know much about diesel, how would these trucks do as a daily driver/short trip truck, (no deletes) no towing or hauling, 6 miles to work and 6 miles back home? a grocery getter. long trip once a year. i just want a big truck with a diesel engine. P.S i don’t care about the mpg or the cost of diesel fuel.
Have you ever thought about putting a Kelderman air suspension on it or at least on the back. That should improve the ride and when you tow it would eliminate the squat. Check their UA-cam channel and check owner reviews. They’re pretty good.
I have thought about it actually. I want to get my first trip in April to Mid Ohio under my belt and go from there. I love the idea though of the air bags in the rear for leveling purposes.
My dad said the same thing about leveling it and then we saw a nice truck that was already lifted in stuff and we got that the only reason why we got that is because I said I wonder how much that is
I drive my truck every day to work, I love it and never get tire. I can say that the mantaince is expensive but I know that the engine is reliable and the platform is ok. I have a question for you what extent it warranty you recomend?, I am getting closer to the 36k.
Yeah, I have a 2012 Cummins with the spring and Bilstein shock leveling kit. Somewhat regret putting 35's on my stock wheels, since it does rub full lock to the right, so kinda sucks in parking lots, but looks so nice. Rides actually better than stock in my mind..
Great video! I’ve heard both sides about a diesel as a daily driver, especially with the def and dpf bs. I’ve test drove all the big 3 diesels and I found the dodge has the best all around qualities I want in a truck. I did think about the truck you have but I prefer my truck to have leaf springs, just in case an airbag leaks or is faulty for whatever reason, so I went with the 3500 Laramie sport.
For sure I will on the next video. Plenty of room, although you may want to consider mega cab if you want more. This was enough for us and I like the look of the crew cab better.
