My favourite film - the wedding & gang cavorting drew me in; the Vietnam exposure & return frightened me about life’s struggled & management against all odds, & the ending brought me back to their familiar & endearing “home pride.” Seeing it again every now & then fills me with appreciating how each character’s fate is realized as true to their nature (Savage played the dreamer, Christopher the peace keeper, and Robert was the hunter, etc.). Camino’s script writing & direction, like his interview swagger as a self-described “realizer” helped realize that, as in life, one’s awakening towards dream fulfilment happens only with risk, grit and determination.
