While the head angle is fairly slack, it's worth noting that in a hardtail, it gets a bit stepper as the fork goes through it's travel. Still pretty sick for a $300 wallgoose!

I’ve been a fan of your videos for a long time. For the price and the quality I might actually get this, even though it’s still just outside my price range. Someday I hope to start a bike company to produce bicycles just as or slightly better than this in someways worse, always trade-offs, but for less than $100 let’s just say they would not be light however.Maybe even something that could write out the apocalypse. If I remember correctly thinking back to high school I think I may have had the dream to start a small ultra cheap bicycle company and wanting to learn how to weld to do that but actually kept me from dropping out.

66.5 degree head tube angle is pretty modern as they say. Nice to see at BBS. I was able to get that kind of angle on my Boundary only after putting a 120mm fork and 27.5 wheel on back for mullet setup. Other numbers are 72 degree seat tube angle, 305mm bb height, 430mm reach, 660mm stack, and 1140mm wheelbase. Also keep in mind that it is a size large.

As i said before. This is a ALL MOUNTAIN frameset. The first one you have reviewed. 140mm travel forks with 34mm stanchions is the standard for a build. If the rims are double walled then just get hubs and spokes.

• @gnarstypow
@gnarstypow 3 роки тому +13

Perhaps the frame was intended for a 120mm fork; the BB height looks little low at 310. 315/320 would sound perhaps more ideal paired with a slacker hta - the front stance of the bike with the 100 fork looks out of place 🤣 (although that would make the seat angle 73....) What do you think Kev?

• @sickmak90
@sickmak90 3 роки тому +1

My Vitus Sentier has a 310mm BB height and it’s fine with 170mm cranks.

• @AORNova
@AORNova 3 роки тому

@@sickmak90 Hmm, its a 140 travel bike yep? I guess 310 is fine with 170 or 165 cranks yeah. If thats the case then Mongoose missed the ball with a longer travel for the front center... just realised if fitted a 120-130 fork it would reduce the standing reach too.

• @TheNationalTrails
@TheNationalTrails 3 роки тому +7

Reach is the "out-of-the-saddle stance" number.
A longer wheelbase supports longer reach, as you are effectively "in-the-bike."
Toptube is the "appropriate riding position while seated" number.
Effective vs Actual seatube angles change the riding position while climbing / descending.
Name of the game is "balance and traction." Some numbers suport you. Others take your focus.
A steep actual seattube provides better balance.
A large BB drop will help provide balance.
It's really just a matter of knowing where to be on the bike if you really have the freedom to ride. That's your power and the power of a good bike.
Enjoy.

Any Co. that puts 51mm offset on 66.5 angle, even with just 100mm travel knows the frame is quality.

Almost perfect... the freewheel simply ruins the upgradeability of this bike. The amount of aftermarket freewheels out there is slim to none.
Never buy a bike with a freewheel if you intend to upgrade it, never. Otherwise you'll be wasting money on a new wheel.

298 bucks gets you the frame. There is no other All mountain frame with this TYPE of geo for 298. This is a serious ALL MOUNTAIN HARDTAIL MID BIKE FRAME.
