I used to stay in Mont Kiara for close to 8 years before moving to Penang. It was an amazing place and I would definitely move back in the future. It’s a satellite city that is close to the city centre while avoiding the congestion. Have you visited the supermarket B.I.G in Publika? It’s absolutely the best supermarket in the whole of Malaysia. I could spend an hour or more wondering around the supermarket because they sell a lot of stuffs that you wouldn’t find in other places. Mont Kiara is also filled with expats from different countries. Besides the usual expats from Europe or NA, there is a sizeable population of Japanese, Koreans and Mainland Chinese expats as well. Just a stone throw away from Publika, there’s even a Koreantown.
I'm Malaysian, I did my first degree in the US in West Philly. Spent almost 3 years there since it was a COOP U where I needed to work as part of my Degree program. Like your channel.
Hello from CA. Thanks 4 the adventure 2 Publica. Must be nice to walk in an air-conditioned, beautiful mall when it is really hot outside. Gas prices up again in the US & too much congestion on freeways. Lucky you, enjoy! Love all the art & food options in Malaysia.
Always lovely to see what's going on in the world of Malaysia through your eyes Taylor...and you still make me laugh, going to a Japnese restaurant and eating a strawberry panacotta...ha.
I love Publika..not as congested as Klcc or times square..I hanged out here sometimes the weekend and I love the bazaar stalls they have inside the mall.
I used to live in Damansara nearby Ikea and rarely went to KL as the areas surrounding my place was already sufficient for me. My old office building has a rooftop infinity swimming pool, hot tub and sauna for the office tenants, where I would usually chill during lunch hour in Ramadhan and catch some sleep. On top of the office building there's several high rise apartments with its own rooftop pools and garden. The rental price for the apartments are on the high side though. There's many serviced studio apartment around, but I personally think it's too tiny. The malls that I frequented there the most were The Curve, Ikano and 1Utama, really hates going to KL back then because of the traffic lol And the vibes in Petaling Jaya overall was already good. Good job you finally went out of KL and discovered other hidden gems of Klang Valley! 👍😄
I work at Solaris Dutamas which housed Publika. Publika is only in Block B and C, while the whole Solaris Dutamas complex has 4 blocks, A-D. As a reader, I love the Publika Bookhub, in which people can donate books. Racks upon racks of books on the walkway. You can read the books for free there (Publika provides comfortable tables and chairs), or if you want to take home a book, you can swap with your own book. The location is next to Christine, a cafe that sells bagels.
MR Taylor, thank you again for this great video. You definitely are enjoying your retirement, continue to get out and see new areas. I am surprised how modern, big and clean KL/Malaysia is. Please continue to give your details and opinions on your travel. You can never give too much information whether you prefer something or not and your suggestions are definitely considered. Have a good one, looking forward to your next video.
I've been watching a bunch of your videos. Pretty great to get all the info on Malaysia; the prices are unbelievably low for the quality you get. Very tempting indeed. BTW, a protip: _kilometre(s)_ rhymes with "nanometres" or "metres" itself, not with "thermometers" or "speedometers" because it's a unit of measurement, not a measuring device. Cheers.
Nice video man...thanks for sharing...yes the mont Kiara, Damansara, publika, seputeh, bangsar , Sri petaling area are the more cosmopolitan, pleasant places to spend your time, apart from downtown klcc area...and of course Penang and Ipoh are the other two wonderful Destination to visit....also hope you do find some time to take up golfing, as Malaysia is among the cheapest place in the world to enjoy golfing...though courses around KL area can be rather expensive, if you are able to head to courses around the suburbs like mines Seri kembangan, Kota kemuning, Shah alam royal golf course or even Kota Seri EMAS etc ..green fees are far more affordable..hope this helps
Among all these high end residential areas, Mt Kiara, Damansara Heights, Desa Park, etc., I would still prefer to stay at Bukit Tunku aka Kenny Hills (if I can afford 😊) for all the nature, fresh air, undulating hills and peacefulness....😎
Your channel is growing, slowly but surely. Good seeing you outdoor, as well as indoor. There's a place in KL, called Sentul West you should check out. They've a large eatery named TIFFIN at the Yard, and 2 other higher end restaurants on another end near the KL Performance arts Center. It's an old train maintenance place, with a lot of old buildings maintained well, with a history of about 120 years if am not wrong. Perhaps it'll be a good place to do a video. Also check out Bangsar area (Bangsar Village 1 & BV II, + Bangsar Shopping Center), another kind of expats place as well as many locals. Oh, another place is the Desa Park City, it has a lake where people generally walk their dogs, or themselves, haha.. Lots of cafes too. Happy Sunday! Cheers
If you would like to see the exotic side of Malaysia, feel free to venture to other states and see kampungs and countryside wonders such as it's beaches.. start with east coast of Malaysia.
I love the walking around videos that you do Taylor. One thing that might be a cool idea is for you to make neighborhood videos, calling out your highlights for the viewers.
Taylor, I'm the same...I'm always torn between trying a new place or going back to a place I really like. I really like the idea of apartments on top of a shopping mall & office towers. Publika reminds me a little bit of the Toronto Eaton Centre. I'd love to see a video by you on living in one of their apartments...cost, etc.
Publika and the vicinity is one of the many elite neighbourhood in Klang Valley. You should also visit Bangsar South City and Desa Park City,..its less than 10km from Publika. Let us know what you think of it. Happy exploring - you will be surprised!
Nice video, thank you and welcome to our country Malaysia, I'm a local citizen here and I love you to make that video hope you kept it up and enjoy your time with all the best part of the day.
I have been to Publika with my wife. We were invited to an Art and Photography exhibition on post-covid theme but we turned out to be there on the last day of the exhibition. Luckily we did as it was the first time we were there travelling 45 minutes from outskirt Kajang, a town famous for Satay. I totally agree with you, the place is so magnificient. Only if you live in the countryside Malaysia or countryside mid west, then you will see Malaysia is a lot different from US.

"After lunch, we were still hungry" - I have that same issue all the time! Much more cheaper issue to resolve with great food in Malaysia. Love seeing these videos. Have you come across Mexican food in Malaysia, like Burritos or Tacos or anything?
They are available but are considered exotic food and sold only at upmarket outlets and cafes. Many roadside stalls sell western food, but they are familiar food like chops and steaks, not Mexicans.
Hi Andrew, can you pls make a video about how difficult or easy it was for you to adapt to different unit of measurements in Malaysia coming from the USA? As European I will never be able to comprehend Fahrenheit Degrees and all sort of funny imperial measurements like gallon/mile but it looks like you got familiar with the "sense" of Kms pretty well.
