Great job. I clicked on this because I saw him using a skill saw on the outline. Smart. I use them cutting curves on wood gates, and when shaping a board I’ve used one to cut rocker when my planer was malfunctioning. Can be used to cut specific width concaves too.
As a born and raised Lis fish surfer. Sunset Cliffs/Ocean Beach local. Watching so many boards shaped and shaped myself, we never cross plane. Glad to see you are keeping the idea alive and relevant. 🌊🤙
so the tools i mostly use are very simple and can be bought from most good hardware shops, however if you want better stuff you can find online if you shop around. My template i can't sell you but try www.blendingcurves.com they have a load of free ones there. Hope this helps
I pretty much like all the innovations and improvements that comes with research of new materials. What are your basics concerns and opinion about eps or pu while considering a shape ? I just had a eps fish ordered here in Rio,Brazil
Hi Daniel, thanks for your comment. You can send the shaper a message via www.bobs-boards.com/ as this is not his channel. As for me personally, I hope the material used for boards, wetsuits, etc. will become more sustainable in the future so it is more in line with the surf culture. Enjoy your new fish!!!
Hi there, the shaper here, so i personally only shape with pu although i have shaped both. I mainly choose pu over eps for its amazing finish and density especially for classic shapes like a fish a bit of extra weight can be advantageous. EPS has its place for high performance lightweight boards. Also the selection of pu blanks over here is much better. Hope this helps a bit
sick board! how many inches from the tail did you set your boxes? im planning on glassing mine on, but trying to figure out where i should place mine. i was thinking 8-9 inches?
Hi thanks so much, so it depends on the length of the board, tail width, fin base and surfer height but a good starting point is 7.5" off the tail, hope this helps, sorry for the very late response
Hi sorry for late response, ha, so try 1 1/2" and 3" as a good starting point but this is only a rough guide and i vary this depending on the rail shape i need

Hi there, thanks so much, this technique Matt Kazuma taught me in Maui. Its a proven trusted method and is super accurate.
Hand shaping and handmade is awesome, respect as a Surfer-Shaoer-Artist myself.
Great time capsule of the process guys👍🏾

Outstanding job, or to me it's pure art.
It is!!
Cutting w/a skill saw? Impressive. It looks a lot easier than an actual saw.
Yep this saw is amazing super clean cuts, always at 90 degrees
