There may be photos of the deceased in this episode THAT ARE POSED IN DEATH IN THEIR GRAVESTONE PICTURES. Keep an eye out throughout this production. I observed 2 in here that are possible. But in the end, I am not quite sure if these 2 children are indeed posed in death. I am 50/50.
    You be the judge.
BUT - There is at least one child THAT IS ABSOLUTELY POSED IN DEATH in the next episode; another boy who appears propped up standing in front of a curtain.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

I've done this my whole life. Walking through cemeteries reading the stones imagining their lives at that time. My husband would say to anybody that called she's at the cemetery. And I would say someday I'll live there! Might as well have a sense of humor. I could put a picture up of myself and say coming attractions. Maybe that's too much. Now my husband sees me on my phone watching you at the cemetery. It's a beautiful place to reflect and pray. Thank you again my new friend🙏💜✌

I have roamed around cemeteries since I was a child. There are often stories to be discovered just via the era they died. If they were military and died young, there is a story. During the flu during WWI. Sometimes you can do research on them in Findagrave.com. I like to think what their lives were like. It is a peaceful way to spend a couple of hours.

When we were kids, my aunt would walk us to the cemetery. We'd take the "grave tool basket" and our lunch. We'd clean the bird poo off the stones, trim the grass so the mowers wouldn't get too close, water the flowers planted around the stones and then eat our lunch. We had apples, cheese and nuts or grapes. Then it was time to go home. Now, we can't get near the place for the robberies, shootings and thefts. I will just remember the good times.

The grave of “Chiostri” ( probably the last name) was definitely alive in the enamel. The little hands were a bit blurry, indicating movement. And deceased babies were never posed with arms up like that. Plus, the eyes hold life.

I was raised 'walking cemeteries' as a kid, my parents took us camping all over remote Michigan. I am quite sure (as a collector) that both children were alive, at the time the photo was taken. The young girl looks ill, very close to death actually. It was a common thing to dress up a dying child, and take their photo, especially if a photographer was nearby. The baby in the photo is also alive, smiling, and its arm's show blurred movement. It also shows facial expressions, and not a blank/dead staring look.

It is so sad to see so many children and young adults, never have the chance to live a good long life. I can only assume that the majority of those lives cut short were due to pneumonia, TB, Spanish flu, and diphtheria which were the leading causes of death during the early 1900's. I thank God that we today, have the medical knowledge, vaccines, etc, which combat these horrific diseases. 🙏

Fortunately for us, the the mason, doing the gravestone, offered to source for us. He eventually located a small firm in Italy that specializes in them. I get a sense that whenever you stand on a grave, that person can hear you and tries to answer all the questions we might have, or tries to correct us. Whenever I visit family graves I always take a moment to say hello to all their neighbours and tidy up their graves. Is that weird? I respect a person even in death, even though they have no clue of what you are doing, they cannot say “thankyou” or show appreciation, so why do some of us do it?

This is the story that I found Mount Carmel Cemetery has a section that is filled with fragrant white and pale purple lilac trees and tiny souls
under the age of 10 or so...
I call it the "Field of Angels".
There is a different miniature angel monument no higher than knee level (and I am short) on just about every grave, so when viewed from a distance, it is quite the sight…a flurry of little white-wings.
This "Field of Angels" also has an especially tender vibe to it, different from other sectors of this beautiful old Italian cemetery.
Perhaps it is the gentle perfume and aura of joy from the innocence of these sweet souls that pervade your own being with even the shortest of visits.
There is ONE exception, a 71 year old woman, Conchetta, is buried on the
corner of the "Field of baby-angels"...I am told that she was the cemetery guardian and caretaker of this section during her life...
and seems to remain so now… she is the only grave with TWO small angels.

I believe the figure is 10% ,as far as people who have appendicitus ,and that said any that ruptured were 100% dead which I imagine accounts for more than a few folks. As mine ruptured in 1992 and I didn't realize it till my wife said " u stink" I shortly after passed out on the fourth day and when my wife dragged her hard headed husband thru the hospital doors unconcious the doc told her 50/50, waited a long time. I was in two weeks and upon awakening the first person I saw was a nun leaning over me and I said" oh no am I dying?" It's kinda morbid.. but when looking at the photos on the stones.. I just have to think how they would have felt if they were to know at the moment that picture was taken, that it would be on their headstone.
I'm so curious as to who those people are.. what their lives were like.. its almost haunting to look at the photos.. but so intriguing at the same time.

      @Mandy-nt2cs Рік тому

In many cases, they probably did know.. as many only got one or two photos taken during their lifetime. I've thought of that.. thinking how we feel under pressure to 'smile right' or 'pose right' in a family photo today.. imagine the pressure knowing it may be the only photo you would ever have, or that it would be on your headstone. Crazy to think about.

section 19 of Mt. Carmel cemetery stands a monument sometimes known as The Family Group - an elaborate, and beautiful, statue that serves as a gravestone for Angelo and Rosa Di Salvo:
The carving is elaborate and remarkable. Though worn with time, one can distinguisht the grains in the woods, the jewelry on people’s hands, and the folds of the dresses. On its own, it’s perhaps the finest statue in a cemetery full of wonderful carvings.
But the most fascinating thing about it is that it moves! The statue actually spins on its base. It’s not that easy to move (it’s heavy), but it does turn.

Thank you for showing these beautiful pictures. I recently watched a program on tv in the UK.
It was about death in the early 1900’s. It stated it was very common to see photographers going
Into homes of families who had a loved one who had died particularly children. They were often
Dressed in their best clothes and posed for photos. They actually showed examples, there was one of a
man in death and he was stood up with props behind holding him up. So yes it did happen.

I've never noticed any pics where the folks looked already dead. I always marveled at all these young men wearing nice suits dressed to the 9's (never knew what that meant exactly, why 9's) and thought it musta been a fashion for folks to dress up and have a.portrait taken as they couldn't all have had jobs allowing them the afford to dress that way anytime but Sunday. People did used to dress better. Even when I was a kid in the 50's even the bums wore sport coats and often tie. Dirty yes but they tried. People looked at ur shoes first when meeting someone to gauge their financial spec. Rich

@@richardhill8797 Well , it pertains to post mortem pictures, but as I said some weren't dead yet, just close to it and the Family wanted a picture to keep for memories. You can usually tell when a person is dead but not always. Theres a few out there when it probably took longer to get a photograph and the body was already decomposing, and you can tell that they've been dead,it's so sad but back then mortality was higher and poorer Families didn't have any photos of their loved one because it was expensive to have your picture taken. Blessings to you.

There are dozens of videos on UA-cam of both Victorian and modern post-mortem photography. Back in the early days of photography, one usually only had their photographs taken maybe twice in their lives: When they were married, and when they died. Sometimes the photographer got there just before they passed - and sometimes they didn't get there until the deceased was beginning to decompose...but it was still important to the families to have A photograph to remember their loved ones by. I'm intrigued by these pictures - maybe you will be too?
