A friend of mine is jew (yeah, I know, but it's important to mention for the context) and was raised by quite traditional standarts. She's also the one who tells the most racist jokes. And they're frikkin hilarious! Roger is right.
At the end of the hurricane episode where stan meets Cleveland and Peter Stan, pulling a gun out on Cleveland: *screams* A looter! Cleveland, pulling a gun out on Stan: *screams* Self defense! Peter, pulling out guns on both of them: *screams* A white and a black guy talking as if it's normal!
It was crazy finding out that Francine kicked that girl out just for being left-handed. How reprehensible. Also, "Listen to your fish" is one of my favorite phrases in the show.
American Dad is far more tasteful with these kinds of jokes than Family Guy. Ironic since they are by the same people! Family Guy just unapologetically uses racial stereotypes and calls it funny, but American Dad is more clever. At least from these select clips - I know a lot more about Family Guy than American Dad.

It's funnier because unlike Family Guy's aimless, shoot 'em all down approach, the humour is that Stan is a racist, sexist, homophobic conservative Republican with a strong (if hypocritical) ideology in a family that doesn't share his views, and in a society that's far more complex than his worldview will admit, which inevitably throws him into situations that would have been avoided if he wasn't an ass. It's funny because when Stan or the other main characters are racist, they're the butt of the joke for it -- it's a comment on their own terrible personalities, not on the people they're mocking. It's also smarter because Stan actually grows in varying degrees from having his worldview challenged, and he becomes a stronger father for it -- unlike in Family Guy where Peter is an idiot but ultimately right, and remains unchallenged in it, which gets tiring very quickly.

I just realized how Family Guy’s humor is just based on racist jokes, pop cultural references and social satire while American Dad adds more with different running gags. It’s just THAT good with its variety.

That one is in season 3 episode 13 (people who count wrong say season 2), either way, it's the episode called "Black Mystery Month". No way I'm gonna describe it. I'll just say that they don't really "tell" the joke, as much as they illustrate it in silence. Even the director's commentary on the DVD lets the moment pass without comment. Very few people will even know what they're looking at if they see it. I think that's what they were counting on. Even search engines come up with a big fat zero.
