Jim Morrison THE GREATEST!. Such a PHENOMENAL ARTISTES!. What a concert. I just love Jim’s gravely, raw voice, he is so expressive. He really gets into the songs. He was a very highly intelligent man. And had so much more to offer The Doors!. Although they continued when Jim sadly passed away, there was no doubt, than no one could fill Jim’s place as lead Singer. There was only one person ever and that was Jim. I loved absolutely every song the doors performed. All talented musicians. Jim’s music is just out of this world. He was the “ Maestro”. He had a wicked sense of humour. And had the most cheeky smile. His parents under rated him. At least his sister tried to keep his memory alive. Jim will never die, because there are concerts like this to enjoy and endless music of his. He left a Massive Legacy to the world!. I’ll have to buy some books and have a good lengthy read about Jim. I know he had an IQ of 149. Jim was “ Highly Gifted”. He wrote countless songs and poetry. And incorporated his poetry and theatre arts into his theatrical performances. He was simply “ A Genius!.” ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌹🌹🌹🌹😇😇😇😘😘
This sounds so lived in. The Doors amassed some quality hits in 5 short years. Love Five to One, displayed just the essence I'm talking about. Here 50 years later and they still sound fresh and creative. Those short years must have been a blink of the eyes for them, especially under substances. Forever live the Doors ✌❤
I was at this concert! They cut out what he said after saying "Hello Detroit". The full text was "Hello Detroit, did you all have a got shit today? That was the first thing my brother said when I told him I picked up this CD.
I was there too ... We rushed the stage when they started playing Light My fire ... We were in the back. I also remember Jim coming on stage pulling a standard child's wooden wagon with red side supports. On said wagon was quite a bit of beer, as I remember ... though I can't be completely sure because of the windowpane acid.We also had to leave early so we could catch the bus back to Windsor, Canada. Cobo Hall cut the power. The show was also broadcast live on WABX, so we listened to the rest of the show on our portable radios.
I was with my older brother and we rushed the stage too!! We got about 20 feet from the stage, stayed for the whole thing. Yes he did power down about a dozen beers and left all his empty bottles on Ray's organ. Awesome Mike!! I was 15, it wasn't until I was 16 when I did a cube for the Moody Blues at Cobo. Legend of the Mind, it was awesome too!
Gerard Durocher I was 15 as well. It was a compromise from my parents, who wouldn't let me go to Woodstock because I was only 14. I feel so lucky to have grown up across the river from Detroit. The musical influences that lived in and flowed through that city, were astounding. Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes played at my Windsor high school, as Did Sha Na Na, Mike & Suzie Quatro, and a host of other famous names. Alice Cooper nearly hung himself at another Canadian high school. Do you remember the old 'Cinderella Ballroom?
I came from Lansing. A lot of Detroit acts would come there. It was the big acts where we had to go to Detroit. I don't remember the Cinderella but I do remember the Grande Ballroom, thouh I never made it there either. I did go to the big concerts at Pontiac Silverdome like The Who, Aerosmith-Foghat-Ted Nugent, Led Zeppelin. It was crazy! East Lansing had cool venues like the Grandmothers-The Brewery-The Silver Dollar Saloon, Coral Gables, Lizards, The Alley Eye, The Stables, where lots of big name talent would come through to play. It's all gone now. I left Lansing in the mid 80's. I still like to go back to Michigan in the summer for those summer nights Bob Seger use to write about.
My best friend who I grew up with..Ross Marino, turned on to the Doors, when I was in HS, Bloomfield Hills, back in 73', Ross became a well known rock photographer, and very ironic, and tragic, died in 88', in a swimming accident, in Cancun. He was 27. RIP..My friend
41 fulls who know nothing what was THE doors Jim was the No 1 when the Rock was good he change everything he was 50 years in front in his lyrics Jim Morrison The King of psychedelic rock and roll
It would be good if Jim came back and learned the piano and guitar and just rocked out with his crew from time to time and made us all dance and think.
Absolutely he was a genius that was true to his own spirit! One of a kind! Mr Mojo Risin #1 :) I got Mr Mojo Rising tattooed on my arm in tribute of Mr Morrison!
look for "The doors are open'"... it was their London gig recorded by the BBC. It's black and white and the sound isn't great but that was from the European tour.
Jim Morrison and the doors never disappoint. The Matrix show is pretty bizarre the reason I say this is it was in March of 67 and if you listen to the concert and you hear the replies from the audience it's only a few people clapping sounds like they're in a lounge. I guess that was before they were really famous.
The Matrix was a small club in San Francisco that many bands played when the doors played there the audience was 30 to 50 people. This is before light my fire started to get airplay and their first album became a hit
I was there... 17 years young. I left my cheap seat and walked up to the stage because I wanted to get a good look at Jim and Co... I was standing near the stage for most of the second half of the show. Yeah, I thought the energy was mediocre, but hey... it's the Doors!
Listen to ANY other live Doors recording and Detroit 1970 is bar none the finest !! Morrison for some reason just settled into some Budweiser's and that was it, gave it his all and way more ! By the way I was there center 6th row and straight as an arrow that night .... so recollection is pure !
jacky pattersont I think you may have another bootleg that your mixed up with. The only Detroit shows that were recorded were this show from 1970. In 1968 they played same venue on 11th May 1968. Support acts were 'The James Cotton blues band' and 'crazy worlds of Arthur Brown' You may have the show mislabeled . Let me know what the setlist is and tell you what show and where it was recorded. I have EVERY bootleg. Have been collecting 20 years. The Doors bootleg bible "The Doors on the Road' By Greg Shaw confirms this. 10th October 1967 they played Ann Arbour, IM building(no recordings of this exist) and 20th November 1971 and 3rd September 1972 (without Jim Morrison).
As I remember, at the 1968 Detroit show at Cobo Hall, the opening act was The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, who were great, and the Doors played only 45 minutes. Very disappointing.
@manthos: Wondering if you have Frankfurt, Germany 1968. Canned Heat was on that leg of the European tour with the them. Might be wishing on a star, but since you offered...
I know of the rarest doors raleated VIDEO that no one has posted A RADIO STATION COMMERCIAL with light my fire on it from san jose san Francisco California early 1980s
I think i have this show on a CD-R somewhere. I am a huge doors fan and for some reason i didn't like the sound of this show back in the early 2000's. The performance is great don't get me wrong and my opinion of this show has changed. Its a shame this goes for ridiculous prices online.
by any chance do you have the doors live in chicago auditorium 1970 it a hard to find concert and a bunch of the songs are cut but i would still like to see it uploaded on youtube since i havnt listened to it since another channel who had it got deleted
during the week of his birthday the original band members should hire a front man and some extra musicans and do a birthay tribute and have food and prizes for fans. They should have a veiwing of all of their cioncerts in a movie hall.
hello +manthos - i am remembering a long time ago, for a sagitarius girl, a live doors thing i heard maybe 25 years ago, where Jim says "i'm a sagitarius" and a girl in the audience shouts "me too", "the most mystical of all the signs, but i dont believe in astrolgy" and she shouts "me neither" - you know the one?

Tom Cover I recommend (drummer) John Densmore's autobiography, Riders on the Storm. He doesn't specifically mention this show, but I think backs up what you're saying. Jim Morrison, for example here, makes a mess of Roadhouse Blues with a sudden outburst to the audience. It was part of the downhill ride to his death. It's a great book.
I was at this concert, 17 yrs old, senior year at Lake Orion High School. I drove my moms big Buick Electra 225 with about 8 friends piled in .
In those days you put as many folks in that big ass car or the bed of a pick up truck, know one had to worry about seat belts because know one acted stupid . That's the ones that caused those times to be few, the stupid ass folks.

hello +manthos - i am remembering a long time ago, for a sagitarius girl, a live doors thing i heard maybe 25 years ago, where Jim says "i'm a sagitarius" and a girl in the audience shouts "me too", "the most mystical of all the signs, but i dont believe in astrolgy" and she shouts "me neither" - you know the one?
i think that was from either the "absolutely live" or from bonus tracks of one of the versions of "american prayer", if you are looking for it.
hey hey thanks!!!
Yes. That's on the live version of Roadhouse Blues on American Prayer.
robtherub. I thought he said"philosophical" of all the signs....

why was it a mediocre show, Tom?
The group wasnt into it. Yhey looked like they didnt want to be thete. Compared to other big name groups, they were dull. They livened up.
