I love how footprints don't show up. I went camping at a place with a group of Boy Scouts. Summer camp. We were supposed to rake up all the pine needles every day, but that meant we had to walk through dust all the time. Anyway around the fire pit there was sand and I got up early one morning, and decided to smooth it out with the iron rake and I made careful circles around the fire pit. There was a strange flower in there called a Snow Flower that normally only blooms in colder weather at higher altitude. So I made circle around that too. I figured once everyone got up the boys would trample it. But they surprised me and all thought it was pretty cool. They very carefully stepped around it and didn't disturb it for the longest time. hahaha The rule is that a zen garden raker is allowed to step on the circles as long as the end result is perfect. Sometimes it is not possible NOT to step on them as to allow the raker to reach difficult to reach areas. People send me nasty comments that I should die or rot in hell because I step on my circles. I bless everyone and wish them peace of mind.
I remember my aunt used to have a tiny little zen garden on her office desk and I would always ask her what the thing as all about. She would tell me that it’s her way of relieving stress and for me to never touch it or she’d kill me. I have a funny relationship with my aunt so as birthday gift I poured coke on top of it and waited for her reaction. I literally heard her screaming from upstairs. So I went down and gave her a new zen garden with like a whole bunch of tools and polished pebbles. She slapped me and then hugged me. She is a wonderful person and till this day I forever love zen gardens.
An artist at work. I had never seen a real Zen garden, nor did I have any appreciation for what went into it. I watched every minute. The 'crushed rock of a specific size range' revealed the secret to their canvas. I had not imagined one could create a gravel surface that behaves as uniformly and firmly as this. No pea gravel need apply! I also learned that you cannot create perfection on your 'first pass'. There are times when you need to step on a 'perfect' circle to complete the whole design. One repairs the damage to seamlessness and moves on. There is a lesson in that for me. I can barely imagine how much work it took to develop the skill to keep the rake handle on a 'true radius' (not skewed). Impressive. Thank you. (Seven years later you inspire someone.)

I would really like to build a garden like this. A place where I can go and just slip out of my stresses and live actually in the moment without worrying about other things.
See that's where many are trully wrong about zen. Yes meditation and freeing ones self and all these things are important but zen teaches us that even in our daily lives we must be able to be this tranquil we first attain this peace learn what it feels like then apply it to the world, we should not feel the need of a cacoon or a shield from the outside rather we must live in the outside with no fear and simply live that is true enlightenment

I completely get your point, you could say the video title is wrong. But imo someone doesn't need to learn x years practising, to create the perfect zen garden, just to put something similar in your backyard. Like, this is merely a hobby to the creator of the video. You just can't expect everybody, whos not japanese, but is interested in the culture, to understand the complexity of it like you do.
Morgan Olfursson Thanks for your input. Sorry you feel offended by my garden. Zen Buddhism is not about feeling offended, anger and hatred, but about love and forgiveness. Japanese people are always very kind to me and too polite to show negative feelings, thus I am surprised by your attitude. It is very western, very rude, almost Dutch. Fortunately many Japanese experts love my effort to create a garden that helps me to meditate and that is pleasing to the eye. As a Dutch painter I never feel offended by Japanese people who feel inspired by Rembrandt and Van Gogh and try to paint like them. Even if they are not perfect at it, it is their attempt and their joy that counts. As a friend of the Dalai Lama and having lived a monastic lifestyle in Asia for 12 years I can only wish you all the best and a peaceful heart. I bless you, my dear friend.
Its strange, cause I can relate to this with yard work. My family used to have to make me go outside to mow and edge the lawn, trim bushes and plants, or rake leaves and sticks up, but now I do it willingly because of that meditation like state it puts me in. I feel like she could have avoided stepping on the patterns each time she did

This lady on the next level get every little leave out like he clean his life from the inside fit into a corner to filter out the debre from rocks, politely placing them back restoring the corner. Love the landscape btw, gives me a better idea of landscaping in Japan.

Love your video and your choice of music, It was so relaxing to watch and your garden is beautiful. I am inspired to try a Japanese Zen garden. You use of pavers, to build a tower is clever.
Thanks. My more recent videos are better. Good luck with your garden!
I never knew I needed this in my life, why has it taken 7 years for this to pop up in my recommended?

Thanks. This is an old video of mine. My later videos are much better. Check them out and feel inspired!

Coogery ' Really? Someone leaves a lovely comment and you slaughter her by calling her a dumb bitch? Get off my channel!
Coogery ' Quit talking about yourself in that way.
Coogery ' go spread hate to someone that might care. Cause nobody wants you here.

it’s amazing that the tools can easily create such fine patterns in the gravel and yet your footprints never show up
Wow...after a shitty night you made it peaceful. Please make more zen garden videos. =)
