  • NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT INTENDED - (RCA Victor 76-2106(B) Issued in Mexico in 1965, this obscure disc sounds as if it were recorded a couple of years prior, considering that the British Invasion was in full swing along with the worldwide appeal of the music from Motown and Atlantic Records in the USA. The A-side is a brassy version of the Paul Anka composted tune, 'Hello Young Lover (You Ain't Gonna Get My Heart)' with Spanish lyrics by Willy Samperio and the title of, 'Don Juan Tenorio'. Presented here is the B-side composed by Bobby Scott and Arthur Resnick entitled, 'I Struck A Match' with Spanish lyrics added by Willy Samperio and the title of, 'No Lo Hice Por Mal'. It is interesting that both sides were recorded by Lesley Gore in 1963 with the B-side tune actually having been the very first song that she recorded for Mercury Records on March 30th, 1963. Also worth noting is that a magnificent, unreleased 'wall of sound' version of 'I Struck A Match' was also recorded by Merry Clayton for Capitol Records in 1963. The vocalist of this Mexican recording, 'Lolita', along with the questionable backing of the 'Matemàticos', is virtually unknown when digging through music sources. The closest possibility thus far is that the singer/composer/translator, Lolita de la Colina, may possibly be the mysterious Lolita fronting los Matemàticos So, here is call out to all music detectives specializing in unknown 1960's girl pop recordings. Any more information regarding this disc is most welcome and appreciated.
