    Good informational video! With not covering the turkey, did it splatter the sides of your oven?

    A great way to start any recipe, with a shot of moonshine. I'm going to use this tip.

    Nice job Kala - I have never cooked a whole turkey before. You have inspired me, maybe I'll give it a try! Thanks for sharing!

      You roast in a covered pan and bake with the top open.ps: and baked turkey is excellent.

      I'm a classically trained certified chef while in school this question was debated but, if its meat it's roasting, if its bread it's baking, and using the wrong term for meat is socially acceptable while using the wrong term for bread is not. roasting is typically what is done to turkeys, even if you use the baked settings. often people call roasted chicken or turkey baked and that's fine too, it's all yummy. graduated top of my class Johnson and Wales univ in 1999, so 20 years of fine dining experience.

    I've got a 13lb turkey I'm attempting to put in there and it fits just barely. I thought about taking the lower rack out to give more room above. thoughts?

      You have to get air to that part of the bird somehow. You might be able to rest the pirex on the metal round tray at the bottom and remove the rack and the glass from the bottom. As long as you can see a pinch of air below the plate you should be ok but make sure to rotate it a couple times during cooking (you don't have to flip the bird, just turn it from right to left so the neck of the bird is facing the other direction. . Most of the heat in these either comes from the back or the size so rotating is an important step. Worst case the underside may be a bit undercooked so make sure to check it wiht a thermometer and don't serve those parts if they haven't reached 165 degrees.

    did you use a rack in the microwave?

    • @LivinliteNet1
      @LivinliteNet1  8 років тому +1

      Hi Anna! Yes we used the lowest rack that came with our microwave which kept the turkey about an inch off the bottom of the microwave. Since the bottom isnt a heat source its important to use racks to ensure you have heat hitting the food from the bottom as well as the top. Thanks for checking in and make sure to rotate your turkey in the middle of cooking or one side will be much less cooked that the other! - Livinlite.net
