Thanks, I fly for the view as much as any other reason to fly. It’s awesome to see the Murray carve its way through such a dry landscape and flow out to sea.
@@SKYHILLMIKE Mike, you also fly so that your son can explain to you that the difference between fresh and seawater is attributable to the relative densities. Explain wind shear to him in similar terms. Cheers.
Awesome footage , so cool you share these experiences with your son. Also your very knowledgeable with all your landmarks thanks for sharing . Fly safe
Thanks for watching! Yeah it’s awesome sharing these adventures with the wife and kids. Son was falling to sleep today. We flew today and got some more footage of Renmark to Wongulla.
Wow, what an amazing video that puts it all in perspective, that is a lot of water coming through the Murray mouth and out to sea. Enjoyed your editorial and knowledge, Thank you
Interesting, thanks. Fascinating to see all of the little towns that we normally only see from the road, gives it a whole new perspective. Impressive flow out into the ocean as well.
Excelent: content and quality. These are places where I have gone boating many times, and punts on which I have crossed many times. This video has been better than any put up by the tv/newspaper channels.
Thanks for the kind words. We crossed the river today and drove along some of it and visited Mannum, from the ground it’s just not possible to take it all in, its definitely a different perspective. We saw a few business with water through them and others on the dry side of the levy bank pumping out cellars/basements that I’m guessing is floods from water soaking through underground or drain flowing backwards.
First class view of the lower Murray region, Mike. We're another 350km south-east of TB so any trips to Adelaide only provide a very limited view of the flooding.
Thanks, yeah I grew up 100km east of Tailem Bend, I would get excited when we saw the water crossing the river at Murray Bridge, you would see it for a few seconds and that was it. To fly over it for 3 hrs is obviously a great experience especially while in flood
Love your posts Mike. From WA , have no idea how this is afffecting everyone until we see your posts, thanks for sharing. Best wishes to all for quick recovery.
Thank you for such a great video. Puts it all into perspective. That's a whole lot of water coming down and out to sea. Incredible and sad at the same time for the shack and business owners along there.
That was terrific what a great flight. I live up the other end of the Murray at Rutherglen near Wodonga and the Hume Dam and watching the water spilling over the wall through eleven gates was amazing We also went up to Dartmouth dam not long after it overflowed and cascaded down the quarry where the rock for the wall was sourced. The overflow was running at 9.3 gigalitres a day and all of that was going into Lake Hume as well as what was coming down the Murray which at that stage was 14 gigalitres a day. Those inflows went higher after that due to rain and snowmelt. I have been in this area for 40 years and it is the first time I have seen the Murray run past us at summer irrigation level right through the winter trying to get a reasonable air gap in Lake Hume. it's hard to imagine that most of this water fell as rain 4 to 6 months ago.
Thanks mate, yeah I can’t get my head around that the water flowing into SA a DAY has been more than what SA households use in a YEAR. It’s such an impressive amount of water. We just spent a week on Lake Eildon and was great to see it full. We have been on the Hume before, it would be good to see it now. I think when we were last there it was on the high side but I’m sure it would be even higher now.
I live in Loxton South Australia, and this is one of the best videos you've ever done so far, I would like to see more of this. If not, I would like to hire your service so I can record the flood areas.
@@SouthTrainsAndPlanes I live on Schick Street in Loxton Hollywood area, and I'm actually safe, because I have research into Floods, Fires and Earthquakes risk areas before I bought myself a new property, that is one thing that people do fail to do so.
Thanks for the great arial views. Waved when you came over the house but you were a bit far away to see 🥴😋 As most of the fields have just been harvested and very late in the season because of the rain we had, they had to wait for crops to dry, makes the countryside look a lot drier than it is. Great shots tho. Happy new year to you and your family 🎇🎆
Another great video, very helpful that you identified even the tiny settlements. I’m learning to fly at Aldinga so any small plane footage is great. John
I realised people were asking and talking about the smaller settlements to so I thought I’d label what I could and show more and not chop too much out. Which made for a longer video than my first flood video
@@SKYHILLMIKE are you going to do another flight soon. Went over swan port bridge Friday(23rd) and level was up, went past again Sunday (27th) and the level has definitely risen.
That was awesome, you get a much better picture from up there! Would love to able to fly over it all! Was in Morgan the other day & couldn't believe how wide the river was!
thank you, thank you, we never realize the extent of the flood, so thank you for showing it to us, well done, well explained and all the best to you and family, hope you have a great year
Thanks for the appreciation mate. I didn’t realise the extent until my first flight over the flooded river. I flew the river again on Monday and I’m currently editing it.
Thanks mate, Rans S6S which is a common kit or factory built plane in USA. They have produced over 2000kits from late 80’s to 2010. The design evolved over that time and they offered a few variants. Mine has 80hp rotax with a constant speed prop.
Brilliant video and I especially liked how you showed Pellaring Flat and Kia Marina and the Murray Mouth was fascinating. Great commentary and the added titles on the screen of your videos certainly helps us get our bearings of what you are actually flying over. It was also interesting to see the different areas that our friends have shacks at. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Well Done!!!
Thanks for the detailed comment, appreciate the feedback. I hope to get some more flights done, hard to squeeze in not only the flight but the editing. I’m trying to put them out as quick as possible.
Another great video Mike - saved me from a long drive out there - & with a much better/ wider view! R u going do another one near the Xmas/ NY flood peak?
Thank for your great view and information. Where are you based. Are you on the Murray Bridge to mannum rd? I live across from mannum waters and do remember you flying over when you said the date in the video. It's unbelievable how many different aircrafts go by every day. It's crazy. Cheers Shaun 👍
Yeah there training aircraft from Murray Bridge and Rollos airfields plus the Parafield training aircraft flying to the Mallee for navigation exercises.
Thanks mate. I’m fly the river again tomorrow.Flying from Bordertown would be a good lap. Guess you will fly north up the border then follow the river?
Would like to have listened to your dialog and the view, shame the doof-doof +. But good to see your experience with your young lad. Nice to hear his experience also. Guess the previous levy didn't take into account man made intervention, but can still see the alluvial flats of decades past. Good the MDBA finally opened some barriers to flow.
Thanks for your feedback, I try to have the music as background music. It’s running about 30dB lower than voice but that’s a bit of an arbitrary figure probably depends then how high you have your volume and distance you sit from speakers. I appreciate the feedback. Must admit I didn’t spend as much time as I would have liked on the edit but 24minute video to film and post in a few days took 25hrs of computer work atleast and that’s a rush job. I guess my main aim is to share the view. Many like the dialog to keep it interesting Thanks mate
All "appears" dry but our native grasses and wheat/crop stubble are brown giving that perception. The soil is very damp this year (22) as we have had about 120mm more rain than our area average. So appearances can be deceiving 🤗😁
I thought farmer irrigators could have made resivors and fill them up, I don’t know if it’s true but I read somewhere farmers asked if they can pump water out of the river for free while it’s in flood and they were told they will still have to pay normal rate. So much water coming into system it would probably make little difference anyway. I agree it’s good for the Murray to flow, but it also seems like a god idea to store some water for the next season.
Floods all over Australia and we do not even bother to demand action, to build dams ,irrigation and pump systems, deepen rivers and build big levee- criminal negligence. And no water for tommorow, for farmers, for animals...insanity!!!!
