    Corey, I live in Northern Maine and great to see your success catching brookies and salmon. My dream is to go to western Maine and fish for monster brookies. Some of the biggest in the state are found there. Great video.

    Great stuff. 3 years ago (August) had a great time fishing there. I hooked into a big salmon which broke me off in 30 seconds- I started swearing loudly and suddenly a cow moose started crashing around in the woods right behind me. We scared each other pretty good!

    Great point about weight management. Many people, including me, have set the weight for the day (i.e., "set it and forget it"). That is exactly why you said in another vid to practice your knot tying, even in front of the TV. When the process is "seamless" (not the knot), then you will not hesitate to continually manage your weight on the stream--it will not be perceived as a burden.. I am even guilty of avoiding the hassle of snags, so I do not have enough weight on for thorough nyphing. Great vids, Cory.
    Thanks, Keith ("Old Dominion Trout Slouch")

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  Рік тому +1

      Thank you, Keith. It really is one of those things that make you better. Once you make it a habit to change weights, it just becomes second nature as you progress-you do it almost instinctively as you move through the stream. Then no more Slouch!

    Corey I went to the fly shop today I checked out four rods The T&T the orvis syndicate and the shadow X and you were absolutely right that rod recovery on the TT was superb! It was the heaviest though and in all the reviews I’ve seen that was the only downside of the rod but it’s damn nice I’m gonna have to try to fish one!! I’m here I’m headed in for rotator cuff surgery in two weeks so I’m think I’m sidelined for a while now so get out and make some more videos looks like I’m gonna be a spectator! Thank you, Pierre. I was actually staying in an AirbnB in NH about an hour away. Not really sure what’s around other than something like that…
      I would go up to the “dam”. At the top of the river. There is a huge parking area there. It’s really easy to find. The river is not that long and you drive along it most of the way. You can find it on a map.
      You can work upstream of it and downstream as well.

The problem is now how do I get over the fact that my best day ever fly fishing has probably happened..lol...I mean that was an epic day! As a newbie to euro nymphing I was wondering if you could explain something to me or do a quick video on it for everyone...
    I took your setup advise and put on 22' of tri color 4x euro mono to a tippet ring and then the 4' of 6x fluoro tippet. Much better setup than what I was originally using (thank you) I typically drift with the tippet ring just above the water's surface but I don't know if that's correct? Do you drop your sighter mono down into the water only when you are drifting a very deep pool? I'm begining to wonder if i'm not actually getting deep enough doing what I normally do. Can you elaborate a little on this subject? Thank you and keep up the amazing videos.

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks, MBHC. Glad I can help.
      That is a great question. Devin Olsen just recently did a video on this. He explains it perfectly. He calls it the downshift, I simply say that you will know that your flies are in the bottom column if your sighter is moving slightly slower than the surface current.
      The key is tippet length. You should have your tippet about 1 1/2 times the depth of the deepest water you will be fishing (on ave). So if you are fishing 2 1/2 to 3 feet at the deepest. 4 1/2 ft will work. If you have 4 feet on and you are fishing 3 foot pools, you may have to dip your sighter in. If you are fishing 2 feet or a foot and a half, you will have to raise it. I like to have my sighter just above the water so I tend to go shorter with my tippet and dip it when needed. If you hit a 5 foot deep pool, you will be better served to lengthen your tippet. If you are in 2 feet of water, your sighter will be higher off the water. It really is time on the water that will help the most.
      Day in and day out 4-5 feet of tippet will work. You can raise and lower based on the depth. You always want to have your sighter just between straight and not straight. (Just a slight curve). I hope this makes sense.

      A mono leader will definitely help you with more distance and sensitivity as well.

      Actually, I believe micro leaders do better in the wind…The ticker the leader, the more wind picks it up because of the larger surface area. The thinner you go, the less sail effect you have.
