    Love this video, I appreciate how it's geared towards homeowners who could easily knock out a sidewalk or patio project in a couple weekends. Sure it's nice to have a truck come and pour it all in one go but if you're short on cash this could be a great option! Just need a little ground prep and moisture barrier for us up in the rust belt.

      So, I have never heard the term before so I googled it: rust belt "The Rust Belt refers to the geographic region from New York through the Midwest that was once dominated by manufacturing. The Rust Belt is synonymous with regions facing industrial decline and abandoned factories rusted from exposure to the elements."
      But this doesn't sound right to me.... cause what does this have to do with moisture or ground prep?
      So obviously I found something else. Could you explain what and where a rust belt is?

    • @alherch
      @alherch 2 роки тому +4

      @@SpliFFFFFFF Rust belt in my mind is Up north where it snows and the ground freezes. Heavy salting on the roads and sidewalks depending on the type, eat away at the surfaces. Including vehicles! Concrete work needs a bit more prep work to keep from heaving due to the freeze thaw cycle.

    • @jameshihihin1320
      @jameshihihin1320 Рік тому +1

      @@SpliFFFFFFFcorrect. But he just means in the rust belt (Midwest/Great Lakes/ny) you need to do extra ground prep to avoid frost heaving. You need to have a deep gravel base and then sand.

    Oh man at the 9 minute mark that was beyond absolute perfection. I would have given anything to see how that was going to dry. Absolute masterpiece!!! You couldn’t have smoothed that out any better. I really LOVED that first surface. You did an outstanding job. I never knew it was so time consuming. I thought you put the concrete in your form, let it dry a bit, then smooth it out. I really the dimensions too.

    I've found that making the bottoms concave a little bit keeps them from rocking as they settle into the subtropical sand/clay ground here in Southeastern Louisiana. For smaller stepping-stones I use hardware cloth to impress a waffle-pattern into the tops to avoid slipping on them as the green algae grows on them. It grows on every surface,: plastic siding, vehicles, windows, metal, wood, concrete...if I sat still long enough it'd probably cover my body.

    I like the exposed aggregate. Making pavers like this is a neat idea, you could make the forms and do a couple every now and then, like on the weekend or after work or something, and before yo know it you have a whole pile of these things for whatever project you need. Best of all, pavers can be picked up and reused. Even if you didn't want them later, someone would gladly take them.

    First is a suggested tools for diyers, for instance how big of a mixer do I need if I want to do projects like this one on a regular basis around my house.
    My other suggestion is a video on site clean up to keep my wife happy and avoid leaving evidence of the work I've done.
    Oh also I was thinking this would be a nice option for a sidewalk along my driveway, if I wanted to have one edge exposed how long should I wait before I concider taking the form off to finish one of the edges?

      I mean it's all about your time. That's why he just does a couple when he feels like it. If you buy a pallet from home depot its about $20 per piece but they are only 2" thick and the finish is inferior. Plus you have to buy a pallet at that price. A bag of 5000 is less than 6 bucks. Plus it's a good way to practice.
