I hated changing in the locker rooms too. It's mind boggling that we still force kids to do that. How does making kids be naked in front of potential bullies sound like good idea? I mean, if you're not body shy more power to you, but a lot of people are and it's just a bad situation.
Joe, I just came across your coming out video. My coming out was much less dramatic, though still a struggle, so I'm glad to see that you've made it out the other side with such a fantastic attitude and close, supportive friends. This video was so much fun to watch. Thanks to both of you guys for sharing and talking openly about the funny stuff we all did as closeted gay kids. Best part of my childhood was when the new Sears catalog came in the mail (yeah, I'm a bit older than you guys). The second I was alone with the catalog it was straight to the men's underwear section!
I definitely relate to a LOT of those lol. Witches and mermaids I think are things most gay guys are into as a child. also the locker room thing is so relatable. I think it's so funny that people think gay guys want to change in front of other guys, when for most guys it's their worst nightmare.
Joseph, you are doing a great service to the younger gay folk who are wondering, afraid to ask questions, and have no place to realize they are normal. I wish I would have had something like this to watch when I was in middle school and high school. Bless you for taking the plunge!
It's crazy how much I can relate. I love you're content so much and I'm also a out and proud UA-camr. I hope I can be as successful as you someday. Keep up the amazing work
Joseph you coming out is absolutely beautiful. Your coming out allows your true feelings be known. Your amazing and don't be afraid you have my support
This was informative and interesting hearing about the signs you had about coming out. Your experiences were quite telling too. I am glad you still have your friendship. I bet being out or coming out in Utah was rough. It is good to look back and laugh too. You will have a great trip to Austin,Texas Joseph. Welcome to Texas!
I'd ALWAYS pick the female characters in games and my uncle always asked me why i was always the girl characters and like i literally didn't understand the question because i was like "they have the best outfits and when the shoot they pose"
Yay! It's back up 😊 From beginning to end, you two are the definition of "Friendship Goals". Like seriously, I'd be lucky to have friends like you two (or at least one, all my friends moved on with their lives). Anyway, hope you both are doing amazing. You two coming out to each other was funny (especially you finding him on Tinder lol)
Red Hood haha I was hoping I took it down before too many people noticed. I accidentally uploaded it the first time with an additional 15 minutes of a black screen 😂
@@josephgarner94 oh lol makes sense then. I was like a few mins into it where you found him on Tinder, then I got a call and when it refreshed it said Private. But Anyway, hope you enjoyed your day 😀 Some other time, I'll have to tell you a story about what happened with me two months ago and two Mormon guys (probably not that interesting but I thought you might like it)
I was 13 and we went to a men's suit store to get fitted for a suit. There was a poster advertising some clothing line, fragrance, or whatever, and the picture was three bodies standing on a beach, all three in white bikinis. The picture was cropped so all you saw was just below the belly button down to just above the knees. I kept noticing the one in the middle...cute butt..... after about half of hour of suit fittings and remeasures, I realized the butt in the middle of the trio was MALE, the other two were female. HAHAHA Been getting into guys' butts ever since.
Joseph- Once again, a great video. I related to many of the things you two talked about. I really liked this couch discussion format- I'd love to see more of them in future videos. I've got a younger brother who is gay as well- we were/are both close to our mom, too. (Too bad my dad didn't get to see your PSA). I'm actually going to be at ACL this weekend for work- we've rolled out the red carpet for you two- so enjoy our way-too-hot-for-this-late-in-the-year weather and I can't wait to see your vlog about the trip!
i need help coming out! Never interest in barbies, witches or drag! My friends were guys i played sports with. I loved the locker-room, especially the smell & not shy about being nude or checking guys out, to make sure no one was bigger! .I've been hiding so long! I MUST BE STRAIGHT. How do i come out to my gay buddies I play hockey & soccer, with! The'll will be shocked!
Ronnie Caron I recommend you tell just one person first. I was in the same bot as you. I told one of my closest female friends and being able to talk to her about it, she guided me though. It’s awkward at first but it gets better over time. You’re gonna get poked fun of but it’s all I’m good fun.
Nothing odd about being masculine, athletic, outgoing and Gay. Just be careful who and when you introduce the subject especially if you are in a bible thumper state. Do it slow and carefully. You will know who is your ally.
I am the same, plus even worked in construction. Told one of my college mates, who told his Girl friend, in short after one week all my friends knew. At this stage I was living in another city from my family and working. So being gay was so natural to me, plus I was happy. Told my family 2 years later. Married a guy, had a daughter, got divorced, but I am still happy.
Yep I was obsessed with witches too like Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, The Craft, Witches, Practical Magic, Madame Mim, any Disney witch, Sabrina, Harry Potter, and now Scarlet Witch 😁🌈 * Also maybe the reason why LGBTQ people love Halloween so much 😂
Uncomfortable in locker rooms? No idea what you’re talking about... When I got into high school, I started changing in a individual bathroom. I’m in college now and still do the same thing...
I was about 30 before I became comfortable being naked around groups of guys -- such as in locker rooms or public showers. (It took a few visits to a gay bathhouse to develop that comfort level, and see that guys come in all shapes and sizes, and be nonjudgmental.) Now I have no problems with public nudity, even if I get a spontaneous erection. Just guys being guys.
markmh835 keep in mind, in my case, we don’t even get naked; it’s just changing shirt and pants... I have no idea why I’m so uncomfortable... I guess I’ll figure out someday For now I’ll just hide in my bathroom stall I guess
Hey Joseph, another great video! It's really nice that you had a friend that was Gay I bet it made things a lot easier. I liked Tom Welling, the guy who played Superboy in Smallville, just like your friend Cayden did. I was the same way about changing around guys and my High School Principal, who knew I was Gay, actually helped me get a Medical Excuse so I could stop taking Gym without having to put it in my school record that I was Gay because you had to have 4 years of PE before you could graduate if you didn't have a Medical reason not to take it. If not for him, my life would have been very different for having the 'stigma' of being Gay legally follow me through life. Hope you enjoy your trip to Austin and maybe it will cool down some before you get there. It's still in the high nineties here in SA but Austin should be a little cooler. Tell Hayden I said hi and I look forward to your next video.
Y'all are adorable! I loved listening to your different thoughts and upbringings. Having been born and raised in (and left and came back to) Utah... When you made mention of "Mormon town" or "Mormon-ville" in your coming-out video, I knew immediately ya had to be raised here too! The difference is I wasn't raised in a LDS-household, it was a deaf and blind and alcoholic one. Grandma, grandpa and mom in that same order. Oh! And I have about 25+ years on ya being out of the closet. Never had Barbie. I had Thundercats! (Later found out its cuz my mama thought they were cool.) But i built them the best dream houses out of cardboard boxes and packing tape. Before Hocus Pocus, which i love by the way! Actually y'all never brought up music/showtunes. Or maybe that's not an identifier for today's kids? I'm a nut for anything Bette Midler! Ya woulda thought my sophomore year (HS) girlfriend could have guessed. She had thought out was something we had in common! Ha! That was the thing back then. If you were really into Bette, or Babs, or Cher, or especially Madonna!!! The Truth or Dare tour! O.M.G! She's was certainly nobodies idea of a "mommy" back then! Warren Beatty was her "Daddy" though! Kinky! But that was a sure sign or give away. And I say sign cuz we didn't have the Price flag yet to identify each other and it was certainly before cellphones or the internet! But that's a different story for a different story. Oh and witches... long story. Had to do with religion. But I'm too tired to keep typing. Great video. Best time on your trip!
Thanks for making this video and writing the disclaimer in the description. It's always interesting to look back on my childhood and realise there were obvious signs that I somehow didn't see lol, and great to hear about other peoples experiences and similar stories too. I was mostly friends with girls in Primary School because I felt like there were more of them who were nice and not so judgmental (but don't get me wrong there were some nasty b*tches too) compared to the boys who were mostly not so nice but I also had a few nice guy friends too. Also I love witchy/magic stuff and would mostly watching the TV series Charmed (obviously the original, no reboot back then) and sometimes I would play as female characters in video games too.
This is really a great video and i think you both are great. I really do like Joseph and I enjoy all of your videos thank you very much for making them, there really Great.
This was a outstanding and wonderful video for I loved the honestly the both of you included in this video . Even though I am a full generation ahead of you, your boyfriend, and your childhood friend, it is amazing to me how all of our experiences are almost similar. I would like to say thank to you and your friend for sharing your video with all of us for I am discovering many of us in the gay community have gone or yet to go through the same exact experience in coming out. A job well done. My best to all of you, Bryan from California.
I for one can relate to multiple things in this video that I did. I LOVED barbies and playing dress up with my sisters. When I was younger and growing up I had guy friends but as I got older I shifted and had basically only friends that were girls because I could relate to them more. I also had a thing for witches also, so I do infect think that it is a gay thing lol. But I loved the video btw can't wait to see more!
Agree with the locker room and underwear in the stores. Also for me, I would never use a urinal, always a stall. Also hung with the girls way more. Was not into sports at all. Related to gay comedians and actors even though I didnt know they were gay.
Yeah, I always feel extremely self conscious and uncomfortable in the locker room at the gym. In fact, I’m relieved when I have privacy because no one else is in there at the same time - can’t get out of there fast enough. 😂
@@josephgarner94 i always fell for the one that looks like that one guy, the other looks too cool. I would have been nervous. WOW he said he preferred to be around girls more. I know a band boy that is the same way. he has a lot of female friends
as a lesbian from utah county who grew up mormon, i heavily relate. i was always so uncomfortable walking with my family past victoria’s secret in the mall hahaha, and would have changed in the bathroom stalls for pe had i been allowed to. between being afraid to change in front of other girls and being terrified about being caught looking at any of them... i learned how to change VERY quickly, and was usually one of the first ones in/out. i remember very clearly hearing girls in my junior high talking about playing spin the bottle and how they wouldn’t because they didn’t want to risk kissing a girl, and i thought “hmm, i don’t think that sounds so bad”. lol somehow i didn’t realize i was gay until i was 17.
Someone posted your coming out video on Reddit so I decided after watching it whether I could figure out if you were a Utah Mormon boy. I spent a year in Utah until recently for a job. I suspect that you are probably from Orem or Provo. I am much older and came out at time when there was no gay rights in this country. I would still rather have come out then to coming out now in heart of the LDS church. You have an incredible attitude and very good spirit.
So many triggers...lol the dressing room was the worst. I can tell you i have great friends of over 20 yrs now from coming out to each other and just learning to live.
13:20 Yeah I hated changing so much so that I would wear my PE outfit under my uniform so it would take less time to change! And that was at a time when I knew for sure that I liked guys! Yet, I hated it in the locker rooms! However, I didn't mind it when I saw someone had a chubby whether it was at half staff or full attention! Lmao so weird remembering my level of discomfort with my orientation back then, and at some points to this day it's difficult. But one day I get to 100% acceptance for my true self, and I can't wait to embrace it!
My mother should have guessed when i wore out "stand by me" when i was 10. The tape (yes i just dated myself) ribbon actually broke at the leech scene. I thought River Phoenix was so hot.
Finally, someone with an actual sign. I can't identify with the examples in the video, but movies like Stand By Me, absolutely. But I liked Will better than River.
I very much agree that the locker room is the opposite of what people think it would be like when you’re gay. It’s awkward, you don’t know if anyone is looking at you because if you did that then it would look like you were looking at other people, and I’m not a pervert. I don’t just look at naked guys. Other boys don’t really care when seeing each other naked because they don’t find the same gender attractive. I can see why people think the locker room would be the best thing ever, but it really isn’t. At least my classmates don’t know my sexuality. That would make it worse, lol.
Wish Upon Star which is a Disney movie was also filmed in Utah it was actually filmed in West Valley City. I lived in Utah for fo 10 years The last two I was in High School I actually attended the high school where it was filmed.
Hi Christopher. you might be interested in watching this vid. 2 sweet 20yo boys named Linc and Canyon, who are a couple and, X Mormon . the darker haired boy, said in another vid, that eventually he wants to start a nonprofit, that helps LGBTQ youth in Utah . I know of some very sad, outcomes with gay mornon youth. this story is very positive. Link. Linc and Canyon. ua-cam.com/video/ycHfpdTTz70/v-deo.html
So all my straight friend especially one had crushes on boys in tv shows or bands. She liked nick Jonas and I to fit in choose Joe. My reasoning he dated Taylor Swift. I very much liked the girls the guys she liked dated.
The underwear section at stores to this day still gets me! I'm 23 now and I could never at the time (when younger) understand why I felt a guilty pleasure from looking at those images! I used to think I wanted a body like that then I realized I wanted that body in a different way... *wink wink* Lmao!!!
I remember when I was 8 I said I was gay to my whole family in the car. I’m 14 now, see no reason in coming out lmao. It’s weird because I had no idea what being gay was it’s just like I said it, as if I lived being gay in another life time.
I want to hang with you two (you are fun and positive), and I am a 61 year old heterosexual woman. Nice people are nice people. Glad you have such a nice friend in each other. My cousin recently got gay married = great couple. They met, you guessed it, in church.
You guys hit a lot of commonalities we seem to have in common compared to our straight friends! In grades 6-8 in Public Jr. High, it was mandatory to change in locker rooms AND to all shower together in a serpentine shaped shower...sadly in hindsight, we our pervert of a coach sitting there, starred at all us naked pre-teen boys exiting the shower. He use the guise of "ensuring we were safe, by watching each of us put our towels on the floor to dry our feet & walk naked to our locker to dress." So he played it off as a safety issue, it was so obvious & no one really cried fowl toward his demeanor at the time. I think even if someone is str8, all of us at that age were worried 'somebody had a bigger tool that we did" which is so stupid, since gym showers don't typically involve erections...only young curiosity. Your DNA still makes you look that young & shy (& youthful appearance is always a good thing)! Great video Joe.
I was never really obvious. I’m a nicer guy but, most people would assume I’m just a normal guy. Even after I discovered myself you still wouldn’t know until I say anything. The funniest thing is I contrast heavily with what I come a-crossed as. Sometimes I kinda question but then it doesn’t take me much to see how gay I really am haha.
I’m under the impression that it’s you American guys who’re shy about changing or showering in front of other guys. Seemingly the rest of us don’t see nudity with friends/classmates/team mates as an issue.
This is also a generational thing. In the 40's and 50's no guys were uncomfortable with changing rooms or group showers (sure, there must have been a couple); it was just the way things were.
Lmao Totally Relate W Joesph On The Kissing... Yo Friend, Is A Kisser !! Lmfao I Can Totally Tell Lol (Filtering My Comment)...Sorry I Am Barely A Hugger... 😁😂😊☺
I had strange looks from guys when I would stare at men's fitness magazines pretending to read them in a store. And I too was petrified to change in front of guys after PE in HS. Had to invent yoga moves to undress without showing any skin. I found it odd how guys would joke about their weenies, comparing them, and slapping each others butts.
I agree that gay guys love witches. Have you seen American Horror Story: Coven? It’s about witches and I’m obsessed. Who doesn’t love a strong female lead with magical powers?
I grew up in the unenlightened 1970s. Somehow my less enlightened than the decade itself parents allowed me to dress as a (female) witch when I was 9 and Vampira when I was 11. My mother even sewed me a dress. I had no concept of gender bending. I was surely more flamboyant as green and yellow Spider Man villain Electro, and my do it yourself Wolf Man costume killed. Well, maybe not killed. It wasn’t a full moon. As long as I could be a villain, who cared about conformity?
I hated changing in the locker rooms too. It's mind boggling that we still force kids to do that. How does making kids be naked in front of potential bullies sound like good idea? I mean, if you're not body shy more power to you, but a lot of people are and it's just a bad situation.

as a lesbian from utah county who grew up mormon, i heavily relate. i was always so uncomfortable walking with my family past victoria’s secret in the mall hahaha, and would have changed in the bathroom stalls for pe had i been allowed to. between being afraid to change in front of other girls and being terrified about being caught looking at any of them... i learned how to change VERY quickly, and was usually one of the first ones in/out. i remember very clearly hearing girls in my junior high talking about playing spin the bottle and how they wouldn’t because they didn’t want to risk kissing a girl, and i thought “hmm, i don’t think that sounds so bad”. lol somehow i didn’t realize i was gay until i was 17.
The actor's name in Smallville is Tom Welling
Great job guys ! I love this video ! It makes me feel like my younger years ! Thanks !
Thank you , so much! You two are making the world a better place just by being true to yourselves. Loved 6:40 and 10:15...
I can tell you i have great friends of over 20 yrs now from coming out to each other and just learning to live.
this was great
Glad I stumbled onto this channel
I'm 28 and now know why I loved Stand By Me. Luckily my family also loved the movie.
@Alan Animus my mother has said a million times that she adores river phoenix.
Finally, someone with an actual sign. I can't identify with the examples in the video, but movies like Stand By Me, absolutely. But I liked Will better than River.
Great story and I am so proud of you two.
Stay yourselves and keep your thoughts positive do not let others get you down.
Toad is a gay icon confirmed
Wish Upon Star which is a Disney movie was also filmed in Utah it was actually filmed in West Valley City. I lived in Utah for fo 10 years The last two I was in High School I actually attended the high school where it was filmed.
Have you seen the movie LDS. It's great. I am a gay Mormon also but I left the church. Glad you are still active.
@@ronniecaron6827 yes thanks already subscribed to them.
Many blessings and love 👍🙏🙏🙏
I remember when I was 8 I said I was gay to my whole family in the car. I’m 14 now, see no reason in coming out lmao. It’s weird because I had no idea what being gay was it’s just like I said it, as if I lived being gay in another life time.
I want to hang with you two (you are fun and positive), and I am a 61 year old heterosexual woman. Nice people are nice people. Glad you have such a nice friend in each other. My cousin recently got gay married = great couple. They met, you guessed it, in church.
Looks like two olds guys remembering the good old times. Very CUTE!
I miss SLC West Jordan. Left to Hollywood but I come back often. I was told our Pride was the 3rd biggest in the west.
LauderdaleJoeM yikes 😬 stalls would also be a good idea in case the school has hired a creepy coach.
@@josephgarner94 ur exactly right! You and ur bf are cute together by the way.
I was never really obvious. I’m a nicer guy but, most people would assume I’m just a normal guy. Even after I discovered myself you still wouldn’t know until I say anything. The funniest thing is I contrast heavily with what I come a-crossed as. Sometimes I kinda question but then it doesn’t take me much to see how gay I really am haha.
you guys are adorable
The witch thing is definitely a thing. My closeted gay brother was and still is super into witches, Wicca, tarot, whole nine.
You boys are so sweet!
God I can relate to this sooo much haha, I came out to both of my besties and they turned out to be gay too.
You both made me laugh tonight. Your video was so cute. So nice your both goid friends....best regards
HALLOWEEN TOWN IS AMAZING
OMG!! Remember "Whitney" (Barbie's friend) she was such a babe =p
Bird Brain I’ve never heard of Whitney 😂
I’m under the impression that it’s you American guys who’re shy about changing or showering in front of other guys. Seemingly the rest of us don’t see nudity with friends/classmates/team mates as an issue.
This is also a generational thing. In the 40's and 50's no guys were uncomfortable with changing rooms or group showers (sure, there must have been a couple); it was just the way things were.
I always was the Doctor while playing Doctors
Lmao Totally Relate W Joesph On The Kissing... Yo Friend, Is A Kisser !! Lmfao I Can Totally Tell Lol (Filtering My Comment)...Sorry I Am Barely A Hugger... 😁😂😊☺
Honestly, I feel like playing sims and always picking the women in fighting games were a sign too 😂
God you two are so incredibly gorgeous. Why are you to not dating?? LOL
Yes I was very into witches and I also live in Austin. Keep the videos coming
Mark Daniels you’re too nice! Dude after visiting Austin once I would be down to live there. Such a beautiful area:)
You mention your coming out vid. How abt a link?
Do you have any advice for someone getting made fun of for tighty whities in school? Did that ever happen to you
The t shirt thing! Yes!
Gina Eastes is this the real Gina Eastes FINALLY watching one of my UA-cam videos??
@@josephgarner94 it IS. I have watched 5 now. I am finally watching ALL your videos
And I was a skater and had hightops and vans lol
I'm gay and I love Halloween and Witches!
Insert new user it IS a gay thing!
Lol I feel like the witch/halloween thing extends to lesbians too - speaking from experience hahaha
I had strange looks from guys when I would stare at men's fitness magazines pretending to read them in a store.
And I too was petrified to change in front of guys after PE in HS. Had to invent yoga moves to undress without showing any skin. I found it odd how guys would joke about their weenies, comparing them, and slapping each others butts.
my brother and i are into witches and we're both gay
Angel Gray I never would have guessed that was a common gay thing!
I agree that gay guys love witches. Have you seen American Horror Story: Coven? It’s about witches and I’m obsessed. Who doesn’t love a strong female lead with magical powers?
Christian Nuñez Thats exactly what Caden was saying, I can’t remember if I included it in the video. I just watched the first episode a few days ago:)
Did you guys love Charmed?? i love Charmed.
I love witches!
Art, nice over dub. But I like your accent much better. I find it very attractive and sexy.
It seems like Mormon kids are always nice and so accomplished, It that due to their religious training?
We really do love witches don’t we? (Also watch Suspiria)
Gay yes, witches yes... 🧙♀️
"Tinder" again hahaha gurl we know which app hahahahha guurrlllll keep grinding hahahaha
Loved the Wizard of Oz because of the Wicked Witch.
I've noticed a lot of gay men have long fingers.
Two handsome guys xx
They need microphones
was i the cousin, Joe? was I?
Shaylynn K nope, it was a fair question for them to ask honestly 😅
The sound is echoed. Work it out.:)
Never stopped being into witches,
I grew up wanting to be Wonder Woman I still do!!!😄
one day i took my sister ken doll and took him in my room and undressed him. very disapointed
Charmed?
