    The absolute best and only way everyone should spool braid! -- This is the way JB, the pioneer of spectra for saltwater fishing spools braid. No unnecessary steps/materials and functions properly. Thanks for sharing.

    What I was waiting to see, was the next step, which you did not show. After that first line of wrap, do you "criss cross" as you fill, or bunch the line, in the exact was as the first line. The concern is the spectra "biting in" if the lines are leaving zero space between as you go. Thanks

    of course it didn't slip, its dry. we tried this several years ago with smaller reels and you're right, it wont slip when its dry, but when the spool is soaking wet the braid will spin on the spool. you could do that same test you just performed without the tag end being wrapped and it still wont slip. add water and it slips.

      Mine don't. I do 3 wraps with a Uni knots. No tag. Braid and mono from 8 pound to 100 pound. Never ever had one slip. I fish all the time in salt water.

      Dude. He just coated the entire spool in an oil based anti corrosion solution. What do you think has less friction. Water or oil? If it doesn't slip covered in oil it's not going to slip when wet.

    • @trumpafarian7129
      @trumpafarian7129 7 років тому +2

      It's hollow. You can create knotless connections for your topshot. It goes through the guides easier without a knot. Stronger connection. Also, you can splice the hollow line with other line if you damage some of it. That way you aren't paying for an entire new spool. Braid is expensive.

    I don't quite understand what the magic sauce here is. Why would this stop the slip? If you think about physics, it's not a fancy knot that will stop slippage, its the friction of all those tightly spooled wraps directly on the metal. And when you take this into a colder climate, the braid wont shrink in a way that mono would, but your spool will slightly shrink, and this stuff can start to slip. I don't see anything here that would stop that. Unless you fish this more or less in the same climate and never in winter.

    I'm going to thumbs up the video. However, couple of things I'd like to point out. One is that I wouldn't tie a strong knot on the bottom. If a fish does take you down to the knot you are hosed. If you didn't get the fish with 700 yards of line, you aren't going to stop him with a knot. All that's going to happen is the line is going to break under tension and possibly snap in your face. It might pull the rod out of your hands. It could cause damage to the reel. Spectra is strong, that knot isn't going to break easily. Before anyone claims it will never come down to the knot..... if you think that, you've never seen a decent fish before. I've seen a fish take a reel down to the knot on a bigger reel in under 5 minutes. Ping.
    I've never fished Western Filament but that was 130 spectra? It looked really thick. Maybe it's just the camera.

    • @shit2fly

      That's why you use your motor.

    • @trumpafarian7129
      @trumpafarian7129 7 років тому

      You ever hook a fish over 800lbs sitting on anchor?

    • @shit2fly
      @shit2fly 7 років тому

      That's why there's a windlass. If not, there's knives. I'd rather not risk 2000 yards of line rotating on the spool than a fish pulling it all off before I can make a logical decision to haul anchor and chase or cut the line.

    • @trumpafarian7129
      @trumpafarian7129 7 років тому +1

      That's not how it works. When you are fishing for giants, one guy jumps on the rod. You have your anchor setup on a ball with a "painter" attached. The other guy jumps on the bow and unties the anchor. The painter is a floating poly line. Now he has to pull in the other fishing lines quickly before the fish takes too much line. Let's say you are fishing three lines total, it's you and one mate. That's two to pull in quickly. If you are fishing a kite bait, that's three lines. Now you can start chasing the fish. No one fishes 2000 yards of line. That would be too expensive and impractical. Typically you have 700-800 yards of line. If you go with thick dacron (200lb), you may only get 500 yards. A big fish can pull 50lbs of drag and strip 500 yards of line in about 5-10 minutes. Don't forget that you are fishing in a fleet of other boats and may not be able to maneuver very well. If that reel comes down to the knot, you are completely fucked. It means you did something wrong.

    • @shit2fly
      @shit2fly 7 років тому

      A fish is more likely to cut you off or pull the hook in such a crowded situation. A crew chasing giants is no less than 3-5 guys on board. I've never heard of anyone getting anywhere near spooled on big fish with the exception of spinners. Guys land granders on PEI without fish ever dumping anywhere near half of a 50w. If for some ungodly reason a fish makes it down to the arbor, a knife just needs to kiss spectra and it's gone.

    I appreciate the feedback but as a tackleshop employee I would always use tape. That is a interesting knot but most reel manufacturers insist on mono or tape as backing before braid or spectra is spooked. not this knot. Thanks for the video though,

      Brendan Woerner hey Brendan. R u sure the tape won’t corrode the the spool. I really don’t know what to use at this point. Will electrical tape be fine?

    • @MemphisPrime
      @MemphisPrime 4 роки тому +1

      @@ziadajam5433 Use surgical finger tape. Water can evaporate through it, it has no adhesive, sticks to itself and provides much more friction than a bare spool coated in oil. The Omega winder has very low pressure at low RPM so this knot is no better than any other on a bare spool.
